I'm very interested in this because my husband and I plan to return to MA in a couple of years (we've been in CA for almost 5 years) and we will (hope to) be bringing our two babies (FeLV+) with us. Thanks, Rachel -------------------------------------- From: "James G. FeLV+ cats are quite susceptible to it, and the best ways to treat it (currently) is the use of antibiotics such as Tetracycline, Doxycycline, and/or Baytril. Your vet can test your cat for this, as well. Hypoxin is a completely natural immunostimulator made from plant sterols and sterolins that has shown good success in treating AIDS in humans. It was tested and shown to be successful in treating FIV as well, but no studies were done using it to treat FeLV (though, I *had* anecdotal evidence that showed it did work for FeLV- I've since lost those messages). Unfortunately, this treatment is only available in S. Africa. I hope this answers your questions. Take care, and best wishes. In loving memory of Vyvyan: March 20, 1988 - August 15, 1997 James G. My vet too does not use it anymore because of the use of Interferon to replace it. However, my Jake was not responding to the Interferon fast enough for me so I requested he be administered Immunoregulin also. I saw results in hours after his first shot. I have also had another cat on it for about 9 months (before the advent of Interferon) and she improved so much, there were those who thought she had converted to negative status. Unfortunately she hadn't and my vet at the time took her off Immunoregulin and 4 months later Greystoke developed a tumor in her eye. Two months later she died. I don't the amount of Immunoregulin, but I think others on this list can tell you. It can be given IV or SubQ. I believe it works better IV if Tucker will allow you to take him to the vet without too much stress. I believe the protocol was twice a week for 3 weeks, then once a week for three, then every other week 3 times and then once a month maintenance. It is given as a shot into his vein--he is not sedated--it goes very fast. Good luck--I think it is a wonderful drug! Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Glen Hypoxin is an entirely naturally derived medication used to increase a person/animal/s resistance to illnesses and has been used to combat backsliding in AIDS patients, with great success. Here in South Africa it is available over the counter and costs about R120,00 (that is about 12 dollars us) - it comes in capsule form. I am still getting info regarding the dosage and will let you all know as soon as I have it. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Glen........ I have one of my sick girls on Pred (she has been on a very low dosage for the last week) and she has shown inprovement regarding her anemia, her appetite and her weight. I am going to add Hypoxin and then slowly wean her off the Pred. I am trying to get some info here in South Africa regarding Immunoregulin and Acemannan (btw Hypoxin can be used in stead of Interferon, I have heard.) The bugs are fixed (the bridge kitties chased them away). Please be sure to visit the FeLV Voice Of Experience on the site, it represents my learnings to date about coping with FeLV. I apologize to those visitors using Netscape who couldn't hear the Carpenters music and thought they were doing something wrong. I also apologize to those who think Sweet Child O Mine, the Guns & Roses tune on the Tribute page is not music :-) but I surely think it is and it expresses both the tenacity of our cats and our love for them. BTW Chloe and I both loved Buddy Holly and you'll find some of that too. A love like yours will surely come my way -- a hey, a hey hey! True love weighs. -- Steve -------------------------------------- From: mferguson@ibm.net Date sent: Mon, 13 Apr 1998 11:12:49 -0700 To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Food Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Nancy, Thank you, I will keep everyone informed of what we're doing and how they respond. It seems to me that every cat is an individual, so it's hard to know if what works for one cat will work for another, but I think this lists provides the best information through learning about so many different kitties. I'm trying to be positive and hopeful (even though I'm so aware that anything could happen any day), and just VERY THANKFUL for every healthy, playful day that we have. We love them both so much. Also, what suppliers for Vitamin C and Ambrotose? Is there a place I can read about the "raw" food diet for Fitzgerald and Armstrong--I wouldn't want to give them food poisoning on top of everything else. George is doing so-so. It seems that she has a cold (AGAIN). However, she is quite perky, is eating and drinking, and her tongue is still pinkish. I don't know what I would do without all of you!!! Please could Steve L provide. Many thanks The conversion rate of Rands to $ is about 5 Rands = $1 so R4000 is about $800 although it doesnt really work that way as we earn R1 here in the same way as you earn $1 there - if you know what I mean. My point is how unprepared the vet profession is in South Africa to tackle FeLV and this is one thing that Steve's experience with Titch has made us determined to address. Hopefully together with Nina and her group, we can make this happen. Best to all. It was so exciting. Stinker is a new cat. He runs and plays and even picks fights.:) I have seen him feel good in the past but you would never think he was sick. I cut the vitamin C down to three times a day as his cold has been completely cured! I keep up the double dose of the Ambrotose three times a day. I just can't believe the change. It's like a miracle. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Nancy, I to am a huge fan of ImmunoRegulin. Ariel, on of my positives, got the full treatment. She got IV, one half cc...week one three times, week two, three and four...twice a week, then once a week for a month, then every two weeks, then once a month for two months. Now I give it once a month, SQ. She had peanut sized lymph nodes on the inside of her back legs and on both sides of her neck when we started. After 10 days, they were gone and have not returned. That was over a year ago. While I have learned with Duncan that health can be fleeting, she is the only one that got the full, IV course of treatment. Dunc and Lor would have fits at the vet and just to draw blood was a battle, so we decided to go the SQ route with them. I don't know if it would have made a difference for Dunc, maybe it would have, I don't know. Lor is still fine as is Ariel. Merlin also got the IV treatments, but if it was a brain tumor, as I now believe, nothing would have helped him. But I am a big supporter of ImmunoRegulin and it can be given with almost all other meds or additives and can be given to the smallest of kittens. I wouldn't be without it. barb -------------------------------------- END
