Now, what are you bringing for dessert? I'm drooling just waiting for it. You know, I don't really think that my persistence will change their attitutes at the vets office, but maybe on the smallest chance it will help even a couple of future Gretchens it will be worth it. I must have picked up the telephone a dozen times to locate a new vet, but I never complete the calls. I've enjoyed reading your posts, you have a great sense of humor and your advice is excellent. What we need is one that we KNOW, without any doubt, actually had the virus, was positive, then converted to negative. It is those cats that would probably be the best one's to use. From what I understand, aprox one third of all cats exposed to the disease, never get it. one third, get it and either beat it or become asytomatic carriers, and a third die from it. The thing is, the one's we see are the one's that get sick and die. Many of them prob do beat it and we never know it. My two siamese were exposed to the original carrier. He was in the house for about 4 months prior to becoming sick. The next cat didn't get sick, (newt) for 4 more months after that. Now they were all vaccinated AFTER the original carrier (Socrates) was gone. Then Kallie about 4 months after Newt. When Kallie died, I took the lot in to be tested. It is possible that in all that time, the siamese may have had it, beat it and then were negative by testing time. But I have no way of knowing that. It is something I would like to try, if I can get the right circumstances and talk my vet into doing it. I feel, at this point, if a cat is positive after 6 months, it will always be positive and at that point, I would have nothing to lose and everything to gain. barb -------------------------------------- From: WORKPARK Date sent: Thu, 2 Apr 1998 20:47:51 EST To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Stinker Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Lynn & Stinker, I'm very happy for you both. Thanks Marilyn! A: Therapy with a steroid acts to decrease the #'s of some circulating WBC . A cat with leukemia may have an increased # of abnormal lymphocytes circulating in its bloodstream: therefore steroid treatment may help to destroy them. Steroids also inhibit the cells that are normally responsible for destroying senescent RBC's: that effect may help to combat the anemia and excessive RBC destruction that often accompany FeLV. It is important to remember that because steroids and FeLV both suppress the immune system, an FeLV + cat, undergoing steroid therapy is esp. vulnerable to other infections. >> -------------------------------------- From: "James G. I'm using Hill's Prescription Diet A/D (Canine/Feline). It's a high-calorie premiem food for sick dogs and cats. It has a creamy texture, so it is easy to get it into a food syringe. I haven't had too much trouble getting it down Ernie, but of course he doesn't have the sore mouth. Thanks for reminding me about the water. Ernie is probably dreading me, now. I hope Booger (and you too) get some relief. I find they can tolerate my singing better than most people. Don't worry, Ernie's exempt from my serenades! Yes, I am not looking forward to tomorrow. I actually don't think I want to do chemo tomorrow, but I'll take him in and talk to the vet. Thanks for the laughs. You give it to your pets a half hour before going to the vet's, right? How much do you give? Just one drop since it is four drops for people? Thanks, Susan PS thanks also for the warning about anabolic steroids from all of you. Signs of Anemia; More pronounced anemia causes other signs that you may be able to recognize at home. An unusual accompanying sign seen in many anemic cats is an appetite for abnormal foodstuffs; many are seen to lick sidewalks or earthenware pots; others consume kitty litter. The enemy, Anemia, has many faces.. I wish it had as many treatments. .marilyn.. -------------------------------------- From: "James G. Could you pass along the URLs to that info- that is, if you found it on the net? Thanks for posting this info- Pam and I have had discussions off list about the clay. I asked Dr. Myers about it, but he wasn't impressed with it and said he wouldn't recommend it. He said that he also wouldn't recommend the colloidial silver that has been talked about on the list. He cited lack of a quality control and the fact that many of the products actually contain ionic silver instead of colloidial silver. I still believe the clay is a good idea, but as Pam's vet pointed out, you have to watch for blockage of the intestines. I think extra water would help prevent that, but we are on new ground with this one, so caution and extra care are a must. Take care, and best wishes.
