I can only suggest that since your vet has run other tests, and some of Rissa-Tai's symtoms seem similar to our Tuffy's, Checking for a thyroid problem wouldn't hurt. Maybe other members can give you much more informed advice in that area. However, in that article, I couldn't find one prevention measure I remembered reading about elsewhere. I'm talking about asking your vet to use single dose vaccinations rather than those taken from multiple dose containers. I couldn't find the article I originally read but this one mentions something about that: http://www.catsmag.com/features/oct97.html I'm still looking for the one I found originally because it mentioned something about other dangers of the aluminium salts collecting in higher concentrations at the bottom of the multi-dosage vaccine serums some (many??) vets still use because it is cheaper. Fibrosarcoma risk is higher for cats vaccinated w/serum at bottom of multiple vaccination container, another reason to make sure our vets use the single dose vaccines. Has anyone else heard this?? or read about it?? I'll let you know if I find anything else. Unknown then..... FeLV now. I was inconsolable, I howled for years and closed my heart to the thought of adopting another cat. It took 4 years, and a chance encounter with a black (Ariya was all black) abandoned kitten on a brisk October night.. Selena was BORN with FeLV, and my karma is to love her knowing that she has the dis-ease that silently stole Ariya. Oops, that IS the story ! We are all in this together. Knowledge makes it less painful, and gives us a fighting chance. Your photo is beautiful ! .marilyn. -------------------------------------- Date sent: Sat, 28 Mar 1998 18:48:26 +0200 From: Pieter Organization: N/A To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Rissa-Tai is not doing well Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Sorry hon - No suggestions - but I will be thinking of you and your baby... Mindy was sick and had lost her appetite. My vet suggested plain turkey baby food - they both love it. I'm feverishly trying to gather information so we can make a decision about which treatment(s) to start after meeting with the vet today. Best of luck to you and your kitty! You need something bland and digestible - we have some very special cat foods here in South Africa which one can buy from a vet - make sure that the food you give them is highly digestible, so that even if they eat only a little, it will benefit them.. Nina -------------------------------------- From: "Claude Horstmann" To: Subject: Titch eating problems Date: Sat, 28 Mar 1998 13:15:00 -0500 Reply-to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Mandy, when you say that Steve is trying everything to get Titch to eat- is he actually hand feeding Titch ? Or, syringe feeding with diluted food and a medicine dropper ? Lack of appetite is one of the most frustrating symptoms- and is always problematic with these kitties. I think we have all resorted to the good old medicine dropper, and a feeding schedule every few hours to bring them through these down periods. .marilyn. -------------------------------------- Date sent: Sat, 28 Mar 1998 20:53:42 +0200 From: Pieter Organization: N/A To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Titch eating problems Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Mandy, please check carefully for dehydration - it happens so quickly - so feed water along with food... George is normally on a very low dose (that was tapered down gradually from a high of 2 pills a day to only 1/2 pill a day). We are starting her on her 1/2 pill again tonight (vet took her off for 5 days while she was/is on antibiotics). I am happy to say that George seems to be feeling better-appetite is back but she's not her normal "Turbo-Charged Super Cat." She did real well on the Immunoregulin/Interferon/Pred before. She went about 2 months without immunoregulin shots before getting sick again. On Monday the whole immunoreg thing starts again. I sure wish I could contribute more to the list-It is just all so confusing. I certainly appreciate the help (and read the posts every day). Thanks again! I posted a reply to Barb earlier regarding the Pred. George was taken off her 1/2 pill for five days (you have a GREAT memory-you are correct that Georgie was up to 2 pills a day at one point). I think the worst part of this is that even a cold is a major emergency with Felv + cats. And the WORRY-all the time. I didn't even want to go to work when her cold was at its worst. I know that most everyone on this list understands that. After losing 2 to this disease relatively recently, I just don't know what I'd do if I lost George. People that I know make innocent jokes like, "well, you have 20 other cats". (like, if George died I'd have plenty of others). But, each one is individual and deserves to have every effort made to help him/her. This group of people on the list is amazing!!! Hope Panther is ok!!! Thanks again.
