Maybe we can find someone who could be our 'mail-order' vet??? We do that at the shelter I volunteer at whenever we hear a sneeze, cough, hack, etc. I sometimes feel it's like establishing a mental link with the kitty in question. If we get an "I'm ok, just a hairball" *feeling*, we go on with our work. Otherwise, we stop and investigate further. I don't know if you "believe" in animal communicators or not, but it would be interesting to see what they could find out from Gretchen about her past. I've heard from several other people that this has helped them... Just a thought. Low doses appear to be no problem, even when given for long periods of time. However, the drug IS potentially toxic with fever and depression noted as the first side effects seen. I have used a common sense approach in tampering with her dose once I understood the depression angle, we are so attuned to our cats behavior because of the dis-ease that we are the first to sense a change. She is currently on an alternate week schedule, but she was started on one c.c.(ml) daily and was maintained on that dosage for 14 months. As to your problems Vet-wise... impress him with information that you can pick up at Jim's website and tell this Vet that you fully understand that Interferon is a TREATMENT and not a CURE, and as such you want to try it. And if that doesn't work let us know, and we'll go to PLAN B. :-) .marilyn. -------------------------------------- Date sent: Thu, 26 Mar 1998 11:20:55 -0600 To: felvtalk@MailingList.net From: Ann M Blais Subject: Thanks Marilyn Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hello Marilyn, Thank you for responding to my request for information in Interferon. You're right, it does seem that the vet is dragging his feet. He is the only vet in this area, though. I'm beginning to think that he never tried to keep an felv positive kitty alive for any length of time. When I was questioning one of the girls that works there about using an antibiotic for a couple of days before surgery, whe said whe didn't know about that as he had only spayed one other felv+ cat before Gretchen. That didn't ease my mind any. Is there any way that you could give this to a kitty without going through a vet if you can get the Interferon? They of course had no idea if that would be safe for cats. Also the Nystatin that I mentioned works also. How is the cat doing? barb -------------------------------------- From: Newtanator Date sent: Thu, 26 Mar 1998 19:57:40 EST To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Ernie's Report Card Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Susan, How are the Acemannan treatments going? It seems I read that the acemannan does make the tumor necrotic (dead) and makes it much easier to remove because it clearly defines where the tumor is, leaving a shell like outline for the vet to follow. Anyway, it is wonderful you have a vet using it and I sure hope it works. Best to you and your baby, barb -------------------------------------- From: Newtanator Date sent: Thu, 26 Mar 1998 20:00:22 EST To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: (Fwd) Re: FIP Prevention wise? Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Jim, My concern with the FIP vaccine is the statement that Cornell no longer recommends it. This worries me a great deal. I can't remember who said they spoke to them, but if that person could perhaps repost that vets remarks, his name etc, I would like to have it. barb -------------------------------------- From: "Lynn Stickels" To: "felvtalk" Subject: Something to make you smile Date sent: Thu, 26 Mar 1998 12:07:09 -0800 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net I came across this site that I thought you all might enjoy-- http://dccorner.bayside.net/Funnies/catfun.html Lynn(Stinker) -------------------------------------- From: Newtanator Date sent: Thu, 26 Mar 1998 20:18:35 EST To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Ernie, Naomi, Ambrotose Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Susan, We now have information on Ambrotose on our angelfire site. It is based on the aloe plant as is Acemannan. It's main benefit, it seems, is it helps the cat produce it's own feline Interferon. barb -------------------------------------- From: "James G. (Zeus has feline leukemia) So I am trying to respond to a message to see if I can post my message this way. If it works my next message will be a question about Zeus. So far the list has been quite interesting. I am glad we can still choose our own vets and do not have to go to ones an HMO picks out as is in the case with our own medical care. -------------------------------------- From: "AZ-HART" To: Copies to: Subject: Pau D'Arco and Goats Milk & Honey Date sent: Thu, 26 Mar 1998 15:32:32 -0700 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Linda, I've been giving my cancer kitty one 500mg Pau D'Arco tablet twice a day with her moist food. Is it less effective than the drops you mentioned, because it's easy to administer. Also, you mentioned that raw goat's milk with a few drops of honey added to it helps ailing cats. Is that something like giving the High Calorie Vitamin Supplements to a skinny cat? I know that pet food is full of such garbage, isn't it so sad. (Of course, people have a choice what they eat and still chose to eat foods that are nutritionally garbage.) I only found out a few months ago that most pet food actually contains dead cats and dogs, which are listed as meat by-products and processed by most rendering plants for use in pet foods. I also read (from several sources) that many pet food manufacturers could not claim that their pet food does not contain dead cats and dogs, as they are not usually able to tell which places that are processing their food do this or don't do this. It is not illegal to use dead cats and dogs in pet food. It think it should be. I find something seriously immoral in man feeding cats and dogs to cats and dogs. A bit off subject, but isn't that sad goings-on?
