It's so good to have her back. The vet put her on Amoxicillin and also gave her an injection of Immunoregulin. She doesn't have an appetite for food yet and looks like she lost weight but I'll cook up some food she won't be able to resist, (I hope). I told her that many nice people cared about her and maybe she understood, she gave me a 'head butt' and I'll pass it on to you from her. From me......many thanks for caring and responding. Rena, it's great to hear from you, I wondered what happened. I'll get back to you a little later on when I have time to figure things out. Thank you for the offer to help, I do understand what you are saying. One note: the amoxicillen is best given on an empty stomach. A warm bed, a loving mom, safety and comfort. ...... g'nite you two.. .marilyn. -------------------------------------- From: "Helen Elizabeth Kennebeck" To: "felv mailinglist" Subject: Gretchen's home Date sent: Wed, 18 Mar 1998 06:25:35 -0600 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Ann, So glad to hear your baby is home with you. I will think of her during my work day. I know I shivered after several of the surgeries I've had. My docs said it was one of the ways the body expelled the anesthetics. Keep her warm, and hopefully that gourmet meal you're cooking up will get her appetite going. You're a wonderful person :) Liz In memory of Buddy 3-13-98 -------------------------------------- From: "Steve Lackow" To: Subject: Re: DMG Date: Wed, 18 Mar 1998 09:25:12 -0800 Reply-to: felvtalk@MailingList.net I also got the DMG in liquid form. I've added 3 ccs of it to the 6 oz. of aloe vera juice and tbp of ester C (sodium ascorbate if possible), shaken not stirred. Perhaps that is too much DMG, though. She gets 3cc's of the entire mix every other day or so. It's been almost 3 weeks now with the DMG, and Chloe's definitely stronger, jumping up on high tables in one step and such for the first time in a long time -- not to mention knocking down nearly full cans of soda with her tail. She still has anorexic periods, however, which start a cycle of energy loss that can be hard to break. Talking to her while she eats and stimulating appetite with hand-fed treats works for us. I also wanted to mention what I've found in my research on LDOIA (low dose oral interferon alpha) therapy. On people, there has been no clinical success in the U.S. in terms of treating HIV, but my take on this is that it is not being "held in the mouth" as in the African trial where it was found to be effective. Plus, there are all sorts on interferons besides human and human recombinant being experimented with, so that's another variable. Unfortunately, there is no clinical evidence I can find on LDOIA on cats, everything we know is strictly anecdotal. I feel it is important to get LDOIA under kitty's tongue -- if you aim at the tonsils, it may go down the throat and end up destroyed in digestion. It's probably our best shot at getting kitty to hold it inside the mouth until absorbed. -- Steve -------------------------------------- Date sent: Wed, 18 Mar 1998 12:42:24 -0800 From: Dana Crow Organization: Magical Moments Preschool To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Merlin Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Dear Barb, So sorry to come home to such bad news about the loss of more fur babies. I can't believe how quickly Merlin went down this time, but I am glad he did not suffer much. He was a very special cat and an inspiration to all of the rest of us who will continue to fight for better health & longer lives. You have a wonderful attitude towards his death & hope that will help you in the days & nights to come. I was also sorry to read of Buddy's passing as well as the other little cat owned by Naomi (I think??? I had 173 E mails to go thru yesterday when I got home) I sure hope that someday we can all open our mail one day to find that someone (Maybe one of us) will have a CURE!! Keep your chin up and keep up the great work Barb! It sure hurts when we all go thru such rough times in such short period of time. It is hard to think that there is any hope at all. (I know that there is always hope but it does sometimes seem so glum!) The first thing I did when getting home after 6 days was to rush to my positive kitties. Thankfully they are all well purring, eating etc. I even checked on them before checking in on my 89 yr old grandmother who lives with me & my family!!! We had a home care worker her who fed all animals but still I was so worried. Reason for this letter is:: What is approx. cost of DMG liquid & Capsules? Also Pau Darco? My daughter is going across border tomorrow & will look for it because either not available in Canada or hard to get. I want to send with her with enough money ( She's only 14) Thanks for any responses!! How often do you give it? How do you give it? I got some at the health food store, but it's 125 mg. Kitty had a lot of gas with it and was very uncomfortable. I stopped giving it to them for now. I have been giving Stinker and my other two asystematic kitties the 125mg dose from the health food store(Foodscience) since the beginning of February. Stinker has been doing really well on it, alot more energy and more time in between being sick. This may be too much but I was running out of time so thought I would attack! I haven't noticed any ill effects with the other two either. I also am giving the Ambrotose which may also be helping. But, no, there haven't been any bad side effects with my kitties. Oh, Stinker is a small, skinny kitty, about or was 7lbs. I fear he is loosing weight now. How big are your babies? If you wanted I guess you could split them, even though they are so tiny or crush them and divide it. That's probably what I would do for a kitten. Hope this helps you some.:).......................Lynn(Stinker) -------------------------------------- From: "Lynn Stickels" To: "felvtalk" Subject: Stinker Date: Wed, 18 Mar 1998 16:38:35 -0800 Reply-to: felvtalk@MailingList.net I just weighed Stinker. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hi Everyone, I'm new to the list. My husband and I have a hospice for FeLV positive cats and kittens near Buffalo, New York. We've had this hospice since 1984 when we got our first positive cat. I knew nothing about leukemia at the time so when I picked up this injured stray on the highway, I had no idea I was bringing a fatal disease into my home to infect 4 out of 5 of my other cats. My one cat, Lucky, was naturally immune to FeLV or so the vet told me. She is now 16 and still very much alive. At the moment we have 22 positive cats. We lost one, Lucy, last Sunday, the 15th. She fought so hard for the past year and just couldn't go on any longer. I very much wanted to subscribe to this list because I'm looking for any new treatments or medications to fight this terrible disease. I've already been using Interferon and ImmunoRegulin. All of the cats are on Interferon now and all are healthy, except for a few with chronic respiratory infections. These infections have gone on for months without getting worse or better. The few cats who have them eat, drink, play and act normal but sneeze and have a discharge from their nose. Since they don't seem to pass the infection to any other cats, I'm beginning to think its not an infection at all but an allergy. Anyway, I want to talk with people with positive cats who use vitamins, natural foods, different types of medications or whatever to keep their cats healthy, and since I've had 14 years of experience dealing with positive cats, maybe I can offer something to help anyone else, too. My oldest positive cat is Abby, who came to us in 1986, almost 12 years ago and still tests positive. The average time a cat is with us is 7-8 years and I don't think that's too bad. But I want a CURE for FeLV! Then they can all live 20+ years. I have some questions. What is DMG? How do you use it? Is Acemannen(sp?) used only on tumors? Thanks. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Judy, Boy oh boy, welcome to the group. What experience you bring with you. Anyone who has been able to keep positive cats alive as long as you have....we will be picking your brain as much as you pick ours! Acemannan can be given both directly in the tumor, if it is accessable, and interperitoneal. That is, in the stomach area. Tho I have not personally used it, we have several on the list that are using it and should be able to help you. What special people you must be to take in babies you know are sick. Again, welcome, welcome. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Thank you. You might say I have a personal vendetta against this disease since it has caused my precious kitties and myself (and family) so much pain. I have lost many in the past 14 years and I remember each and every one of them as if they just left. My vet tells me the love my whole family gives these wonderful creatures is a major reason they live so long with us. But I still can't defeat the disease and that is my goal. You know, I met Joan (Pufferino) and her friend Alison, this past weekend and she's the one who told me about the list and about you, Barb. She told me you had just lost Merlin. I am so sorry. I saw the pictures of your other kitties on the FeLV Bridge Kitties page. You've gone through much pain also. As so many others on the list. I hope to become friends with everyone and we can all work to beat this thing. -------------------------------------- From: "Cheri Gardiner" To: Subject: Re: DMG Date sent: Wed, 18 Mar 1998 19:14:58 -0600 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Lynn, Both of my kittens are about 9 pounds, not really very big. I have been using the pills crushed in their wet food. I think I will go back to it and see what happens. I haven't been able to afford the ambrotose yet. I hope to get it sometime soon. I got a raise at work so part of it will go for that. Cheri G., Kitty & Chaz In memory of my little boy Mickey -------------------------------------- From: "Cheri Gardiner" To: Subject: Re: Hello. I'm afraid I don't have much info on natural foods, etc. Bless you for your work.
