Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Ann, Great news about Gretchen. I had been wondering and thinking about it. Have to go to work now, but hope to hear that she is home, safe and sound with you by tonight. From: naohalloran@juno.com (Naomi J O'Halloran) Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Ann, I'm glad to hear that Gretchen did well. I wouldn't worry too much about her staying overnight. We don't stay overnight with them at my vet, but the vet goes in during the night to check on them, and we never have any problems. She'll be fine. I'm sure your vet checks on them during the night too. Well I hope she continues to do well. It's great that you're doing so much for her. I know how terribly hard it is to not have her at home and think of her at the vets. But, the truth of the matter is, with all the anaesthetic, she just slept all night. I woke up early wondering about her and was so happy to see your post. You sound like a wonderful mom, doing everything for her. Gretchen is blessed to have found you. (They find us, you know) Keep up the great work, and keep the faith. To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Dear Ann, I read about Gretchen last night, so when I got up this morning and found your message I was so relieved for you. I, too, have had to keep my Ernie confined, and I know how painful it is to shut that door. I am pulling for you and Gretchen in your struggle to make her negative. I, too, put my cats on Frazier's natural food diet, but stopped when I made my alpha cat, Pete, sick. Now they get Nutra Max Cat (dry), Science Diet (dry and a little wet food for a morning and evening treat). Again, I am so happy to hear about Gretchen. My Selena is also a "dwarf" in size, but a giant in spirit. . There are many postings about diet and vitamins here courtesy of our "resident" Vet- and of course our own experiences to add to your own knowledge (which seems to be quite wonderful!) take care, ..marilyn.. -------------------------------------- Date sent: Tue, 17 Mar 1998 09:14:26 -0600 (CST) From: "Nancy A. It sounds like you are giving her some wonderful food and supplements--that should really help! Have you thought about starting her on interferon? Although for now I wouldn't be sure she needs it. Date sent: Tue, 17 Mar 1998 10:51:11 -0800 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hi Ann and all. You know, if your FeLV or otherwise very sick cat ever has to go through a hospital stay, you can ask to sit with your cat yourself outside visiting hours. My experience is that no one is going to feed your cat by hand but you. I'm sure everyone can use the good news about Gretchen. My cat is a runt, too. A healthy runt with attitude. She made it through her ordeal and has been asymptomatic ever since. Let's hope the same thing for your cat. -- Steve -------------------------------------- Date sent: Tue, 17 Mar 1998 14:22:57 -0500 To: felvtalk@MailingList.net From: "Michele R. Smeal" Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net I know this isn't a kitty story, but a lady I work with said that her new neighbor has a little terrier that has a mental disorder that when her owner leaves, he bangs his head against the wall repeatedly. She is thinking of putting him to sleep because of this! Any ideas? God love the little dog. If you have any info, please e mail me privately and I'll give any helpful info to her. I guess his head is bleeding due to this. Thanks Friends. Michele Michele R. But I can't see this problem with the dog as being insurmountable. sincerely Selena Walker swalker@rohcg.on.ca in memory of Zachie June 1982- Nov 1994 -------------------------------------- Date sent: Tue, 17 Mar 1998 14:43:03 +0000 From: LawBet Organization: Home for Wayward Felines To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: "head banging dog" Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net I offer this personal experience as a possible solution to the dog butting his head. It falls in very neatly with Selena's #2 suggestion: We had a mixed terrier named Fluffy. Whenever we would leave the house she would dirty on the floor, scratch the front door, rip at the curtains and do other damage. We did not know how to correct this behavior. One day, our soon to be little Tuffy (orphan cat) wandered to our house. We took him in and he became the second pet member of the family. When we left the house the next time, we thought sure we would come home to the same type of damage as before. However, to our surprise, when we walked in, both Fluffy (dog) and Tuffy (cat) were sleeping peacefully together on the couch! No damage, no dog mess on the floor, no barking, no nothing. Fluffy had just not wanted to be left home alone and Tuffy had provided the company the dog had sought. Rather than putting the dog to sleep or even finding a new home, I would suggest from this personal experience, that the dog is just lonely and needs companionship. I would suggest to the neighbors that they get a kitten, as so propitiously showed up at our door at the right time, and that would most likely solve the head-butting problem as Selena suggested. Either she can put the dog on something like Prozac OR what a wonderful home that would be for a FeLV positive kitty!!! She could find a healthy, but positive kitty and give it a wonderful home. Since it could not pass on the leukemia to the dog, a wonderful solution for both!! barb -------------------------------------- From: "James G. He probably just needs some type of distraction or diversion for when she is not there. Some new toys, a new playmate (kitten!), or a neighborhood child to come visit. If he doesn't do it when his owner is around, then it is probably not a medical problem; however, she should take him to the vet to be sure. Ernie started his Acemannan treatment today. (She injected the drug into his tumors as you mentioned, Steve. Thanks for that info, by the way.) The other chemo seems to have slowed down the tumor growth, and the doc says she likes Ernie's "attitude"! He has always had plenty of that! Tonight when we brought him home, he gave a long, complaining meow. He's always been vocal, but I hadn't heard much out of him for the last few weeks, so his criticism was very welcome.
