Dr Myers called Vetri-Science Labs to check this, as he didn't feel the reaction was caused by the DMG-the molecule is too small to be antigenic. Selena was battling her first opportunistic infection at that time (URI) and was on Clavamox gtts and it may have been the ABT..or the FeLV...or both. She's just been started on the DMG liquid and is taking this with no untoward reaction and I look forward to the day when she can knock over a soda can with HER tail (hi Steve) g'nite all. .marilyn. -------------------------------------- From: "James G. I've been so distracted with trying to get the search engine going for the archives pages that I got confused- kind of an irony if you think about it :) Had the search engine been working, I could've looked up exactly who's kitty had the bad reaction. Anyway, I'm glad to hear of another good report with the use DMG. Thanks for letting me know about the error. Take care, and best wishes to you and Stinker. Ellie's kitten , "Cow", lost it's battle with FeLV this past Sunday and Eleanor could sure use an outpouring of the kind of spirit and sympathy that this list has been known to provide. I'm trying to get her to log onto the list, but as we all know she is not up to making advances at this time. Her message was relayed to us by RDC a few days ago and I don't know how many of us were in contact with her. Her address is ebelen@eudoramail.com , she needs a group hug. .marilyn. -------------------------------------- From: Boonedagel Date sent: Wed, 11 Mar 1998 10:21:01 EST To: ebelen@eudoramail.com Copies to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Bye Bye Cow. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Ms. Belen, Your tears are my tears. You did a good thing, Eleanor, taking care of your little FeLv kitten, Cow. The little dear is in a better place now, suffering no more. For that, be thankful. For Cow and you, I am so sorry. It is an awful thing, to lose a loved one. Life is hard. All you need is love..... It is so hard to lose our special 'babies', but I'm sure "Cow" knows you did everything you could, and loves you all the more. I received this message from Jim, our list 'leader', who received it from a person on another list who is an author. She has just written a story that may benefit us all. Her name is Anne Kolaczyk, and you can find her story at: http://www.nd.edu/~akolaczy/choices.html Let me know if you have trouble accessing it, and I'll forward a copy to you personally. This is a beautiful story that will at first bring lots of tears to your eyes. But as you read on, you'll find that it may start to help the healing process. If you haven't read "The Rainbow Bridge", you'll want to read that first. You can find a copy of it at: http://www.angelfire.com/il/felv/rainbow.html These are both wonderful stories that can give us some hope that we may again someday be with our lost loved ones. There is also one more site dealing with the loss of a beloved pet, and it has a candle burning ceremony that you might be interested in. The address for the Petloss Grief Support Website & Candle Ceremony is: http://petloss.com Please join our list whenever you feel up to it - we share each others' joys, successes, and information, as well as each others' sorrows and losses. You can also e-mail any of us personally. Kat Mundell (New Jersey) -------------------------------------- Date sent: Wed, 11 Mar 1998 09:44:03 -0600 (CST) From: "Nancy A. Rissa-Tai was at .2 on Friday, and after the injection on Saturday she was up to 1.4 on Monday. She was given another injection Tuesday afternoon, and will receive another one on Thursday. We'll then check her blood on either Friday or Saturday, and I'll post the results. Our vet is giving her 300 mcg/ml, (whatever that means - Barb will probably know) and that costs $2.64, add the injection cost of $6.00 for a grand total of $8.64. Not too bad at all. The Oncologist also said I could lower her prednisone from 7 1/2 mg. twice a day to 5 mg. per day. She had already had her morning 7 1/2 dose today, and we didn't give her anymore tonight - but how quickly can you take them down on this stuff? I will call my regular vet tomorrow morning but would appreciate any advice. She also suggested that we start with Clavamox susp. 62.5mg/ml which we started giving her tonight. We're just very happy that she is doing this well, and even though this hasn't been the most inexpensive situation, she's worth every penny :) I'll update as I get more info, but we're all happy here with the results with the Neupogen so far. (For the new ones who don't, he is felv positive, has a chronic URI that has spread to his ears, and his inner ears. He was paralysed for about 2-3 weeks over Christmas/new years. He made a comeback and was up walking, using the box. ) He has had a relapse. Yesterday the vet had me start some new eardrops and I don't know if he had a ruptured eardrum or the drops caused it to rupture, but he is down again. Not quite as bad as before, but he can't walk again. So we start all over again. But he is a tough little guy who I hope has some more magic to pull out of his bag of tricks. I am home with him today, fussing over him. Anyone with a miracle cure for persistant ear infections, let me know. I won't put anything more in his ears, not knowing the condition of the drums. will be on later tonight. barb -------------------------------------- From: AskforArt Date sent: Wed, 11 Mar 1998 16:41:18 EST To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Merlin update Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Barb-- Minnie, one of my non-Felv+ kitties, came down with a middle ear infection, and was walking sideways and stumbling. First med did'n't do a thing, so my vet called a vet a UCD. He prescribed "Synotic" (floucinalone acetonide 0.01% and dimethyl sufoxide 60%), an otic solution, from Fort Dodge Labs, in Fort Dodge, Iowa 50501. Dosed as follows: two drops 2xs daily for one week, one drop 1x daily for one week, then 2xs weekly for 2 weeks. He is flat on his side. I am fearful to put anything in his ears without knowing if the eardrums are intact. But if he gets back on his feet again, and we get those ears cleaned to where we can actually see, I might give them a try. For persistent feline ear infections she uses TRESSADERM or OTOMAX. She says the Otomax is not approved for felines BUT she uses it anyway because of it's effectiveness. She also said there's always the tried and true PANALOG cream. She also says if the ear drum is already ruptured, an antibiotic pill and a topical application should be used together. I know this isn't much, but it's the best I could do. Larry (The Lurker) (Bro) -------------------------------------- END
