I've used this product successfully for fungal infections on my cat's skin, and for herpes infections in their eyes....and it works. Props to Doc Myers for suggesting DMG as a supplement. I thought that was for athletes, but I guess cats fit the bill there. I started including DMG in Chloe's elixir a few weeks ago, and noticed that she seemed stronger and bouncier, maybe last week. Last night, when she knocked down a full can of soda with a swing of her tail, it made me sit up and take notice, and not just because she drenched me. Thanks again, Doc! We surely wish you were OUR vet. -- Steve -------------------------------------- From: "James G. Regarding the Neupogen - on Friday, her wbc count was down to .2. Not good at all, almost non-existant. She got her first injection on Saturday, and we drew blood yesterday to check the count again. It was up to 1.4, which takes her out of the real danger zone. Now, the oncologist says since her count is over 1000, there's a 50-50 chance. She got her second injection today, and will get her third on Thursday along with her Immunoregulin IV. We'll then draw more blood to see how she is doing then. The Oncologist was very nice, and Rissa-Tai behaved pretty well for her. After all she had heard about Rissa-Tai's situation, she expected to see a much sicker- looking cat. However, she said we are dealing with a triple whammy here. Rissa-Tai's low white blood cell count could be from one of three things: the Feline Leukemia (this is a symptom I don't see brought up a lot on the list), the plasma cell myoloma, which takes over the bone marrow so it can't produce anything but plasma, or from the chemo which we had her on. And, it's almost imposible to tell which of the three is causing the low wbc. At this point, we're waiting for the results of the second Protein Electroporesis (from blood drawn yesterday) to come back to see if there is any difference from the first one done in mid-January. If there isn't, the next step is a bone marrow aspirate to see if there is anything left and to check how bad it really is. The Oncologist also put her on Clavamox to help her fight any possible infection, as a small one could be lethal for her within 5-6 hours. Chuck and I have decided that as long as Rissa-Tai isn't suffering (she isn't yet) and seems to continue to fight this stuff, so will we. She is at 7 lbs. 3 oz. and that's almost a pound more than she has been at her worst. You would never know to look at her that she was this ill, as she looks like a normal skinny Siamese cat - of course, she was stockier, at her heaviest she was 9 lbs. 6 oz. We'd just like to see her stay as healthy as possible, for as long as possible. One other thing the Oncologist said was that there was no way to tell if the myoloma was caused by the FeLV or not. However, the FeLV makes the cats more susceptible to all forms of cancers - lymphoma or lymphosarcoma as well as others. Anyway, thanks all for your support. When I have more info, I will update here. Give all the furbabies a good snuggle for me, Pam P.S. VERY glad to hear the Neupogen is working. I just knew it would. Isn't normal 5-10 K, like humans? I think I would like to see it up about 4K. Out of curiosity, how much is it costing you? I know this drug is expensive, but broken down into small doses, may not be to bad. Also, how much is he giving? Anyway, so glad to hear things are going a little better. Keep us informed. barb -------------------------------------- From: "Helen Elizabeth Kennebeck" To: "felv mailinglist" Subject: rissa-tai Date sent: Tue, 10 Mar 1998 18:04:03 -0600 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Glad to hear the encouraging words on Rissa-Tai. My cat, Buddy has also been through the dangerously low white blood cell count. He has been on Interferon since April '97 and his white count improved. It sounds like you've hit on something with the Neupogen. I'll keep good thoughts for you and prayers for Rissa-Tai. What is DMG? How's it used? What's the purpose? Just got off the phone to Margie about Ambrotose. That's a big expesnse, but one I will definitely make money for next pay day. It sounds great for the cats and myself. Margie is great too. She called and took time to explain about ambrotose. Ellie's kitten , "Cow", lost it's battle with FeLV this past Sunday and Eleanor could sure use an outpouring of the kind of spirit and sympathy that this list has been known to provide. I'm trying to get her to log onto the list, but as we all know she is not up to making advances at this time. Her message was relayed to us by RDC a few days ago and I don't know how many of us were in contact with her. Her address is ebelen@eudoramail.com , she needs a group hug. .marilyn. -------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 10 Mar 1998 21:06:21 +0000 From: "James G. DMG is short for: dimethylglycine > How's it used? What's the purpose? It is an anti-oxident that helps boost the immune system. You can get it from your local health food store. Dr. Myers recommended giving it in doses of 50 to 100 mg per day. Although Lynn's cat Stinker had a bad reaction to it, other cats like Steve's Chloe seem to be responding well to it. I hope this helps. Take care, and best wishes. In loving memory of Vyvyan: March 20, 1988 - August 15, 1997 James G. What happened to Stinker was I had taken him off his antibiotics. He is doing much better today.:) The DMG has helped him so very much! I also get mine at the health food store but it comes in 125 mgs and that is what I have been giving him. Today, my vet gave him a low dose of steroids for a week to help with the itching. That is as long as I will use it. Tonight he feels so good. If nothing else, it will give him a break.:) I am going to try the Colloidal Silver that Linda P. recommended but for now I needed something right away.........................Lynn(Stinker) -------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 10 Mar 1998 22:07:13 EST From: DLMLLM Subject: Been busy To: Felvtalk@mailinglist.net Hi everyone. Been busy for awhile. Got the scanner running and now the printer won't print. But I scanned my first picture. Got some good news yesturday about Tail and Heathen. They are both negative for the felv. They are pretty healthy but Heathen needs two teeth pulled. Seems he has alot missing. The old vet never checked them. And you do not normally put your fingers in His mouth. We aren't sure of his age, he was feral. Haven't read the email yet. And my vets are okay on the register list. Let me know where to put their names. And the cats have taken to going into the basement at night and meowing. Both of them do this 2 or three times. I know they realize Russian is gone. Tail has her old spots now. Be in touch. Linda In memory of Russian -------------------------------------- END
