The ELISA is done in the office and takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Many people feel it is not reliable and request the IFA be done also. That one has to be sent out to a lab and takes a few days to get back. BUT, there have also been reports of people who's cats have tested neg on both, and when a bone marrow was done, the virus was found there. So, was that any help. Probably not. As to the last question, is there ever a time you can take a deep breath and say we got lucky...not really. This nasty little bug can lay dormant for years before raising its ugly head. But take it from me, I've been there and it does no good to worry about something we have no control over. Keep your cat healthy, well fed, good nutrition and vitamins and enjoy the moment. barb -------------------------------------- From: Newtanator Date sent: Fri, 6 Mar 1998 19:59:40 EST To: felvtalk@Mailinglist.net Subject: vet list Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Here is the address for the vet list, but remember, if you want to add a name, you have to go thru Jim I think. http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/Spa/8025/ barb -------------------------------------- From: Newtanator Date sent: Fri, 6 Mar 1998 20:03:52 EST To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: computers and goofs Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Greg, I'm one of the original members on this group and I am so computer illiterate, I have crashed my computer two or three times now. So not to worry, if they can put up with me, they can take anything. barb -------------------------------------- From: Newtanator Date sent: Fri, 6 Mar 1998 20:06:49 EST To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Rissa-Tai Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Mary, This is very interesting. Do you know what Insect that came from? What part of the country? We lose a lot of cats to anemia that is blamed on the felv. So if there is another possible source, we need to know about it. Maybe add it to our www site as a warning to people in parts of the country this little critter lives in. I can't remember now. If so, did they and has it helped? barb -------------------------------------- From: Newtanator Date sent: Fri, 6 Mar 1998 20:23:46 EST To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Pooters II Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Greg, I can't find it now, but am I correct in that you don't give your cat any meat or meat products? If it's true, I don't think that is a good idea. Cat's are carnivores and even tho you may truly believe to eat meat is bad, that is ok for you, if you wish because you can substitute with other things, but very hard for your cat. There are some other folks on the list that are vegatarians, maybe they can share their reasons for continuing to give their cats meat. barb -------------------------------------- From: Newtanator Date sent: Fri, 6 Mar 1998 20:28:50 EST To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Pooters II Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Greg, From reading some of the mail, I must have lost some. How bad is Pooters?? My Merlin was entirely paralysed and the vet believed he had a brain or spinal tumor and was near death. Frankly, so did I. But because of support from everyone, I persisted and Merlin is still with me and walking again. It turned out he had a massive inner ear infection!! He is still not a well cat and may never be, but I don't give up hope. If Pooter is suffering terribly, you will know and he will tell you he doesn't want to fight anymore and you must do what you feel is right, but as long as Pooters is fighting, so should you! He gets about a half teaspoon a day. He doesn't even notice it when I put it in the juice from his canned food. I'm too dumb with these things. What type of scanner did you buy and is it connected to the paralell port. Mine connects to the printer port and then the printer plugs into it. So you can't us both at once. But it has a switch to turn off when you use the printer. My sister in law might drop by after I get off work tomorrow. If not I finally found a guy who puts computers together for people who might look at it. Did you see Russian's page. I cry ever time I go to it. I really want to learn this scanner and do my own things with pictures. Besides I bird watch to and would love to have a seperate area for that to. Off to bed. Early day tomorrow.
