She is losing weight and appetite. She had a "stiff-legged" seizure one time about a week ago. She drinks water constantly, then goes pee right away. She has bowel problems, or digestion problems. Often, a stool will be sticking out of her a half inch, as if she doesn't know. And often a stool will just drop off of her. Her nictating lids creep out a quarter to a third of the way often. I rescued Pooters II from CBS in Hollywood nearly 3 years ago. Uncertain her true age or how long she has been felv+. What can I do to help her appetite, and her immune system quickly and effectively? Preferrably in some natural way. I think Pooters II needs a lot of help from every one on the list as soon as possible. I am on disability, and thus limited resources. Second, would you elaborate on your discussion above: what it's about, what you are advising, etc.? Would that discussion be of any help to Pooters II? Look forward to hearing from you. Thank you. Sincerely, greg sherrow -------------------------------------- From: "James G. I adopted my first FeLV positive kitten from Alley Cat Allies in the DC area. This IS NOT a criticism of Alley Cat Allies. My kitten tested negative for FeLV when I adopted him at 10 weeks. He was born to an outdoor neighborhood mom cat and rescued by one of the Alley Cat Allies members. Unfortunately, a negative test at 10 weeks, as I later discovered, is essentially useless. The kitten should be at least 12 weeks for the kitten's immunity to be developed enough to test positive. That sweet kitten died at 10 months. My current FeLV positive cat, Yo-yo contracted FeLV from that kitten. I do want to stress that Alley Cat Allies and similar organizations are absolutely wonderful groups. The kitten I adopted was an unfortunate accident; no member of Alley Cat Allies was at fault. There is a definite problem of FeLV in the Baltimore-DC area. My advice to any cat owner would be to keep your kitty inside. Only then can s/he be protected from the many dangers that lurk outside. I would be curious whether Alley Cat Allies has developed a particular policy in FeLV testing since my experience nearly three years ago. Many people don't seem to be aware that testing very young kittens is not helpful in determining FeLV status. Especially in areas of the country where there does seem to be an "epidemic" of sorts, this is a very important issue. A cat can have the virus in their bone marrow, but it doesn't show on tests? Or can you point me to a site where I can read about it? Thanks. -------------------------------------- From: "Steve Lackow" To: Subject: Re: ELISA & IFA Tests For FeLV Date sent: Tue, 3 Mar 1998 12:45:40 -0800 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net It'll show on tests all right, Cheryl -- a bone marrow biopsy. Only when the virus is circulating can it be detected by anything less. There can be false negatives as well as false positives. I found a wonderful FeLV diagnostic simulation site called "Fluffy The Cat" explaining all of this at Cornell, but it has since been restricted to their intranet. Try http://web.vet.cornell.edu/public/fhc/felv.htm, and if that does not answer your questions, contact them and ask about where "Fluffy The Cat" went to. -- Steve -------------------------------------- From: "James G. This is kind of a rough draft, so please let me know if you have ideas on making it more accessible. You can find the directory at: http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/Spa/8025/ There, you will find a link to the directory. I also got permission from AltVetMed (thanks Linda P. for letting me know about that) to add a link to their alternative medicine pages. OK- the ball's in y'all's court to get veterinary references listed here. Take care, and I hope we can get this project at full steam soon. The staying inside without your friends part is really hard for an FeLV cat. If you can arrange window treatments to allow for more sunshine, it'll help. -- Steve -------------------------------------- From: DLMLLM Date sent: Tue, 3 Mar 1998 20:34:20 EST To: Felvtalk@mailinglist.net Subject: Russian's page Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hi everyone Rena gave me a great gift today.
