(www.petinsurance.com) Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Kaylee: I know my vet clinic offers pet insurance. If you would like, I'm sure if you call them, even though they are in Pennsylvania, they can tell you about their insurance guidelines. 814-237-5333 (Metzger's Animal Hospital) maybe it would help....I know, I spent over $ 1000 on my dear little Benny and would have spent much more to keep him here and healthy. I tried, I miss him so much. I had to go BACk there last night, it was SO hard because I could see Benny 's face everywhere. They think I waste so much $ and time on animals. hmmpfff! Heck with them all. On the other hand, there are a handful who would do what we have done for our babies. It does seem to be more against us than for us and the animals. News about MY kitties: What a day I had yesterday. I had to go back to the clinic where I said good bye to Benny. It was SO hard. I saw his little face everywhere and it brought back ALL the memories. Timmy is still positive and Boots is felv negative. Now to move to my folks this weekend is going to be a zoo. Otherwise, the kitties are very healthy, but I am not allowed keeping them together. Talk to you all soon. Michele Michele R. Smeal mrb2@psu.edu 107 Ritenour Bldg. Date: Fri, 27 Feb 1998 07:20:53 -0800 Reply-to: felvtalk@MailingList.net I am writing from my heart. Please bear with me as I am in a very depressed state of mind. You see, I love my cat more than life itself which is really not too good. I suffer from manic depression(which I haven't had for a long time with medication). Yesterday, I and my Stinker left for a motel room with a bottle of Jim Beam and bandages. I slept alot and decided to call my children(oldest being 18). I came home. Stinker was not too happy with all of this. When I got home, he started throwing up. I am so overcome by guilt. I keep all of my feelings inside, I don't cry and I don't feel much, and for some reason the depression and all just came out all at once. I went to the motel with a bottle of Jim Beam, bandages, and of course my Stinker. Right now, thanks to the Lord God, I am home. My Stinker has been throwing up. Thanks to me, I put him in a stressful situation. What I am trying to say, I guess is I am loosing it! I Love this cat so very much and if he should leave me, I don't know what I will do, I will go with him. I know you support the leukemia kitties but how about me? I guess I am writing out of overwhelming depression so please bear with me. It is so hard for me to be a part of a "group". I hope and pray that you will accept me.........................Lynn(Stinker.....my life) -------------------------------------- Date sent: Fri, 27 Feb 1998 10:22:13 -0500 To: felvtalk@MailingList.net From: "Michele R. "No problem. You may dilute the interferon in either sterile LRS or saline. The salts in LRS or its pH will not affect the stability or efficacy of the IFN." I've done a lot of research this week on what is called LDOIA (Low Dose Oral Interferon Alpha) in human medicine, and will post results on my website soon. -- Steve -------------------------------------- From: AskforArt Date sent: Fri, 27 Feb 1998 14:00:22 EST To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: A Prayer for Animals Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hello everyone--I've had this tacked to my wall for over twenty years now. My copy is brown and tattered, and I read it often. I think I need to share it with all of you. A Prayer for Animals Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals, especially for animals who are suffering; for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that must be put to sleep. We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity, and for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words. Make us true friends to animals and so to share the blessings of the merciful. by Albert Schweitzer -------------------------------------- Date sent: Fri, 27 Feb 1998 13:08:57 -0600 (CST) From: "Nancy A. I don't have any heroes except one--Albert Schweitzer. It is said that when he walked through the jungle he would avoid even stepping on a bug. I love his reverence for life--any kind. Thanks for sharing. Which reminds me, has anyone here read the book "Ishmael", about the gorilla who tells us how to save the planet? -- Steve -------------------------------------- Date sent: Fri, 27 Feb 1998 13:27:32 -0600 (CST) From: "Nancy A. Schmall" To: felvtalk Subject: Re: Jusf me........ Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Dear, dear Lynn, You sound like you are at your wits end, going through a very difficult time. Please know that we all care, not only for Stinker, but for his dear friend--YOU, even more. This list is not just about caring for our cats; it is also and even more importantly, a support group for the people who care enough to care for them. I have a feeling that if we all lived closer and got together, we'd become very good friends. First of all, Stinker's throwing up may even be due to something else, but IN NO WAY did you cause his problem. Shit happens. Secondly, (and I hope sincerely you won't take offense at this) but, since you're bipolar, might your medication need adjusting? I'm suggesting this, Lynn, without knowing the cause of your depression. You may be going through something that IS very depressing. Do you think it would help to talk to someone you feel safe with and can trust? I am very concerned about you. It's times like these that I wish we lived closer. Is there anything I or we can do to help you? I hate giving advice, but since we all correspond in writing, it so hard to get a handle on things so . . . please forgive if I am overstepping my bounds . . . I would encourage you to find someone you can talk to because you really sound like you're going through a hard time and I am very concerned about what you might do. Please respond -- I want to know what's going on. I feel helpless that I can't help because of the distance. Affectionately, Nancy. -------------------------------------- From: AskforArt Date sent: Fri, 27 Feb 1998 14:35:38 EST To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Echinacea An Antibiotic?????? Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Sorry about that.... too many kitties on the computer!!! I'll try again..... the following quote is from THE NATURAL REMEDY BOOK FOR DOGS AND CATS by Diane Stein. Echinaccea is an herbal antibiotic on the level of penicillin. It is an infection fighter active against strep bacteria (abcessess and boils), a blood cleanser (blood poisoning, snake bites, poisonous insects), and a glandular and lymphatic cleanser. Use it particularly for respiratory infections and any dis-ease above the waist. Use it only when really needed, and keep the pet or person on it for a minimum of two weeks to prevent symptoms from returning. Goldendeal is another major herbal antibiotic, an equivalent to sulpha. It is a liver cleanser and antiseptic, and is used for internal bleeding and bowel dis-eases (colitis, etc.). It lowers blood sugar and is a natural insulin. It heals the mucous membranes and is used externally for skin cancer. Use goldenseal as an elixer for pets with cancer, feline leukemia, feline infectious peritonitis, and tumors. Do not use goldenseal with hypoglycemic animals or add licorice root to goldenseal for them. Monitor diabetic pets closely. Use particularly for any infections below he waist--stomach, bowel, digestive. Hope this helps. I added the info about the goldenseal for the kitty with worms. And, I'm going to get on a soap box for a minute. For those of you who let your Felv+ kitties go outside, please think about what you are doing. Felv+ cats OFTEN die not from Felv, but from opportunistic diseases like FIP and FIV because they're immune systems are already compromised. They are more likely to be injured in a fight, and unable to fight off any injuries they suffer. And, on the flip side, you are putting EVERY CAT that comes in contact with yours at risk of contracting Felv, and making that cat and his/her owners go through the same thing you are. Althought we cannot stop this disease yet, we can all be thoughful and responsible owners, and at least know that we aren't responsible for spreading this terrible disease to other animals. Just like the recycling ad--"If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem." Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Lynn: We are all very worried about YOU. PLease , please, please don't do anything to yourself. I KNOW what the heck YOU are going through. I myself took some pills that are supposed to make you tired, I know it was stupid, I just wanted to forget. It didn't prove a thing and remember, if you have any other animals or kitties, they need you so much and even if you don't have others, there are other little babies out there that NEED your help. Right now, though, YOUR kitty needs you to be strong for the both of you. You have to get a hold of yourself. Please write me at the address above if you need to write me personally. Remember, my Timmy is positive but doing fine right now. I know it's hard. I just want you to be strong right now. It will help you and your sweet kitty.
