Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net I am sure that I read something about magnetic therapy for FelV somewhere in my search for answers. has any one tried it? Apparently it is proving very beneficial to many human & horse illnesses& injuries. Just curious again!! Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net A friend (she's a nurse) was telling me today that Echinacea should NOT be used for anymore than 2 weeks at a time with a est of about 1 month before using again. This is because it has antibiotic properties & it 's effectiveness wil diminish with over use. Any ideas or comments on this????? I have been using it daily for my 3 positive kitties, along with Vit C. Still hoping to get some Pau Darco & now using Ginko Biloba. Also sending for Ambrotose. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Meeko home tonight & driving me crazy wanting to go outside. Not likely!!! Especially after a$700.00 vet bill. He just may become an inside cat now if I have my way. I am wondering if he ate some tainted meat at the neighbours' illegal slaughter pit across the road. They do a lot of pigs there & pork is a great source for Salmonella. Thanks again all for the good wishes!Dana -------------------------------------- From: "James G. I absolutely agree that if a cat's only choices are death or exposure to FeLV, I would choose the risk of exposure in a split second. I understand that those are the cats that you are essentially dealing with. My only concern is that I don't understand why you don't keep the positives/exposed negatives separated from the _new_ negatives permanently. But that is an issue for another post. :) As far as Smudge's fate: you're of course right in that I can't predict what her future may have been. But I do know that there was another approved family anxious to adopt her (BTW I adopt kittens from feral rescue foster homes, not from shelters. There tends to be more of a demand for these guys & there is a mostly no-kill policy). So, just to clarify my point, it is extremely likely that Smudge would be happy as an only indoor cat rather than dogfood. Hence the guilt. Undoubtedly there are WAY too many kittens out there that need homes. This is why I tried to be clear that I supported whatever decision Kelly made. It will be the best one for her and her cats. Both you and she have shown yourselves to be very kind and loving people. I know that there are some very happy cats that are alive today because of your kindness and generocity. There is a second issue that often goes unaddressed: that of allowing the disease the opportunity to reproduce. Part of stopping this disease means not giving it new hosts in which to breed. By your same theory that we can't predict the future, I could argue that in exposing this new cat to FeLV the cat may become a carrier. This carrier cat may escape one day and meet another outdoor cat wandering around the neighborhood. This outdoor cat gets FeLV and spreads it to every cat she meets. In order to stop the horrible disease in its tracks there is a strong argument for preventing further exposure. If it has no new hosts, the disease, itself could be practically irradicated. Ultimately, I must admit that I probably wrote my post because I still have trouble sleeping sometimes even though nearly a year has past since Smudge passed away. I wanted to give Kelly, and possibly others, the information that no one told me when I went to adopt my new cats. I wanted her to completely understand the risks.... and the guilt that I live with every day. The only time now that I personally would consider bringing a new FeLV negative cat into my home would be just as you described: this or death. But again, as you said it is an extremely personal decision. I would NEVER want to try to make it for anyone. And I thank God that there are people in the world like you who are willing to sacrifice so much time, space, and money to save so many furry ones. Thank you. Please visit her at the new site at: http://www.corax.com/feline/remember.html She has taken all of the tributes from my page and added them to hers. Be sure to give her a pat on the back for the excellent work she has done on behalf of our FeLV kitties. She is the author of the "Feline Leukemia- Do Something" pages that inspired me to do the work that I've done. Take care, and best wishes to all. If you are still having problems accessing it, try this web-based news service. Go to: http://www.dejanews.com/ and type in "alt.animals.felines.diseases" (without the ""). If you want to post to the group from there, you'll have to create an account with them. It is free and relatively easy to use. There are already at least 15 messages posted there- though, I didn't see any about FeLV, FIV, or FIP. But, we have taken the first step in the right direction. Take care, and best wishes to all.
