Interferon is measured in units, so you want that 1 cc to contain 30 units. If your bottle says that it contains 3 million units, you have *alot* more diluting to do :) Your vet should have pre-mixed it for you because this is a delicate process. Let us know how it goes. He is on IV fluid & antibiotics. They found a parasite in his gut started with"c" that is common in low #'s in dogs & cats but he had 7-10 per field. Apparently too many. Vet doesn't think this is making his temp high or anemia tho. Might be a symptom of a deeper problem. He is being syringe fed but salivates as he gets it apparently from nausea. I can't believe that FelV could be the cause because he was perfectly healthy Sat. night, wrestling with Teeka, purring & sleeping with us. He vomited sometime in the night & has been sick since. Still fever but blood count has held steady today. He does use litter box & picked up his head for me. All of this is too much like what we've all experienced here over the last couple weeks. It seems so fatefull, that I came here for my other "sick" cats & now Meeko. I guess I have unknowingly been prepared for whatever is handed to me. Tests results will be back late a.m. so hopefully know more then. in meantime, he is getting system flushed out if it was poisoning. It happened SOOOOOOOO fast!! More crossed fingers for tonight Dana -------------------------------------- Date sent: Tue, 24 Feb 1998 22:02:47 -0800 From: Dana Crow Organization: Magical Moments Preschool To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Heart worm curable??? Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Barb, sorry forgot to ask if heart worm can be cued? I'll ask about testing 1st thing in a.m. if all goes well tonight. I hated having to leave him there all alone. It has been really easy to give it to Rissa-Tai because of it's salty flavor. Of course, this is a cat that used to stand at the sink whenever I put in or took out my contac lenses, just to lick up any "salty water" (saline) she could get! As soon as she sees the dropper coming, she starts licking her chops, and goes for it with her mouth wide open. Some good news - the vet even thinks she is doing better, since this morning, when we went in for the Immunoregulin injection, she actually had enough energy to struggle some - where before, she was pretty docile. However, she's now down to 6 lbs. 14 oz. She's getting really lovable, and we're hoping all the stuff were putting in her is doing some good. By the way, I'd like to know how people are ordering the Ambrotose. I spoke with Margie earlier this evening, and I just can't swing the $100 for it. Any suggestions? Thanks! Also I wonder if perhaps it should not be kept for years any way. I'd be game to share with people in Canada or west coast USA for simplicity sake. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Dana, Heartworm, unless you catch it at a certain stage, won't be found in the blood, is my understanding, it has to be done diagnostically. The respiratory problems, acute asthma like attacks, enlarged heart causing a murmur ect. One of my friends at work, her cat had it. It had to be diagnosed at Mich. State. Howvever, there is no treatment for cats other than treating the symptoms, that I know of. Cat can apparently kill the worm itself IF they can survive the symptoms. But this for Meeko came on so suddenly, Poison of some type??? Antifreeze? A mean neighbor? How did the felv test come out? Somehow, my gut feeling is this is something else. Hope your vet can figure it out for you. Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Barb -------------------------------------- Date sent: Wed, 25 Feb 1998 08:18:44 -0600 (CST) From: "Nancy A. In fact I've started them on a every third day regimen of Interferon and then, because it's so confusing, may ease them into a week on and a week off. Jake's back to his mean little self. He's a very small black cat, but very tough. He thinks he rules the world! He's on the chair in my computer room right now with his sister, "Max." Or was . . . I think he tried playing with her and got too rough so . . . Panther's in here too on the cat tree looking out the window, wishing he was outside to hunt mice. (We live in the country and there are ALOT of mice, rats and moles. Jake is going in on Saturday for his last 2-week Immunoregulin shot. Then he will go in only once a month. I've been so lucky with them. If you start Timmy and/or Boots on Interferon now or when/if either should show symptoms I have a feeling they'll do much better than poor little Benny. It's just too bad more veterinarians aren't better educated in new methods. I'm glad mine are, but I know that it's part of our responsibility too to inform them of methods and treatments we hear about. One thing about my vet--anything I hear or read, she always offers to look into it and does it immediately. Once I'm done with e-mail I'm going to look up Benny's picture. Take care Michele and be kind to yourself. You certainly deserve it! Love, Nancy -------------------------------------- Date sent: Wed, 25 Feb 1998 08:33:27 -0600 (CST) From: "Nancy A. I guess it's like a lot of things: the body sets up an immunity so withdrawing the drug for a short time can make it work better when it's used again. That's not to say every drug is like that. Some need to be taken every day. Hope that helps. Nancy -------------------------------------- Date sent: Wed, 25 Feb 1998 08:43:32 -0600 (CST) From: "Nancy A. I know from experience that cats seem to get sick overnight. The vet says that that's just because cats hide their symptoms so well. When I first took Jake in I wasn't even sure he was sick--he just seemed to be laying around more than usual. His blood count was so low he almost had to be transfused! I'm thinking of you, hoping for the best, and keeping my fingers crossed. Nancy -------------------------------------- Date sent: Wed, 25 Feb 1998 08:45:44 -0600 (CST) From: "Nancy A.
