Maybe I will this time too. But feel that since I was mentioned, it warranted some type of response from me. I have not been on this list for too awfully long and I don't recall having seen the poem referred to. I might be in a better position to judge had I seen it. But in reading the rest of Steve's message, I cannot believe that his intentions were anything but good. I hope those that might have been offended by his poem consider his explanation and view his poetic contribution in the spirit it was given. Our energies need to be concentrated on supporting those who have lost their beloved pets and in persevering in the search for effective treatments. The Lurker has now left the podium. If you throw anything at me, please make sure it's edible and soft. I have a very low tolerance for pain. I think that expresses my feelings on the subject better than I expressed it myself. What happens is the vet clips back the nails just about as far as possible, then glues a rubber or plastic thing to the end of it. Eventually, the nail grows again and the thing comes off and must be replaced, I think every couple of months. I don't believe it's very expensive, maybe $15 a shot? Ask your vet. (I checked into it at one point, but as soon as I thought about it, she stopped climbing the drapes!) My kitty is extremely sick, but last Friday he seemed a lot better--good appetite, alert, purring--so they started him on the vincristine, etc. Every day since then he's been worse. I will be surprised if he lives through the night. Thanks anyway--if he gets even a little better, I'll be in touch! Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hi everyone, Nancy Pilotte was kind enough to put up my sweet Benny's photo on Belinda Sauro's website..Thanks Belinda so much from me and Benny and thank you Nancy for doing it for us. Benny looks bigger than he actually was in the photo, he was just a little guy, long and lean and so handsome, when he was a kitten he was so fuzzy like an angora. I am glad you all can see his sweet little face and share this with me. You can see Benny at: www.geocities.com/heartland/estates/7122 and look under 3 boys lost to felv----Benny is at the end of the page! Thanks again, Michele Michele R. (My mind is so confused about that time frame.) I just wanted to let you know that I recall reading that poem and tears falling down my face. This was NOTdue to me seeing insensitivity, but due to the reality of your poem. No one on this list has bad intentions. The amount of caring and concern is overwhelming! Each message MUST be read with that perspective. You asked for it, you got it... 10 Commandments for a Responsible Pet Owner 1. My life is likely to last 10-15 yrs. Any separation from you will be very painful. 2. Give me time to understand what you want of me. 3. Place your trust in me - it is crucial for my well being. 4. Don't be angry with me for long, and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your friends, your work, your entertainment. I have ONLY you! 5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words. I understand your voince when it's speaking to me. 6. Be aware that however you treat me, I'll NEVER forget! 7. Before you hit me, remember that I have teeth that could easily crush the bones in your hand, but I choose not to bite you. 8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I've been out in the sun too long, or my heart may be getting old and weak. 9. Take care of me when I get old. You, too, will grow old. 10. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say, "I can't bear to watch it", or, "let it happen in my absence". Everything is easier for me if you are there. Remember, I Love You! Also still has fever. She is testing for felV as his count makes her suspicious (quite anemic) It would be ironic if he has it since he really has had little or no contact with my other 3 positives. He is also vaccinated. Guess I won't get results til tomorrow. They are doing Elisa test. He has shown symptoms of Asthma in the past(?) Does this sound famiiar to anyone? The IFA (indirect fluorescent antibody) is more specifc than the ELISA, it is just more difficult to run. This is why we recommend a follow up check with this test procedure, especially if the cat is showing no clinical signs. We have many ways to keep FeLV positive cats healthy for a long time today, so get the diagnosis and work from there. M. W. Myers, D.V.M. -------------------------------------- From: "James G. Isn't that actually what the tests read is the protein material- whether the virus is proliferating or not? I believe the use of the word antibodies was incorrect in Kelly's vet's assumptions. In any event, I can't find the articles I read on this, so I'll leave it to your word on this. In loving memory of Vyvyan: March 20, 1988 - August 15, 1997 James G. Most of mine have been together almost 6 years so I just keep them together, take what precautions I can, and let go of the rest. If another comes down with FELV, I'll give it the same treatments and the same level of high health care that I give Jake and Panther. I hope you can reach some peace with all this--I know it must be hard. Thinking of you. Nancy -------------------------------------- Date sent: Tue, 24 Feb 1998 14:34:52 -0600 (CST) From: "Nancy A. And I will be sorry if Wuzzy turns out to be positive, but even if he does, he may never get sick from the disease and he may never contact FIP. I would certainly (and you've probably thought of this) start him on interferon and maybe immunoregulin to give him a head start.
