I bought it to give to Storm and Beast awhile back. After getting it home, I read the label. It warns against any(one) with an auto immune deficiency to take it. My two were alot different than most your yours. Since mine had FIP on top of the FeLV. I doesn't say why, so just be careful. Maybe someone can shead a little light on this. Here's lots of vibes that Wuzzy will continue to be healthy and that you won't have to go through this again with him. So you aren't getting rid of me > too easily. Atta girl! There's a lot of education needed not only for owners but for vets and we need to keep up the fight. And somewhere, somehow we're going to find a computer for our fearless leader to continue on with his research. He's done so much so far for all the + babies. With continued effort maybe someday there will be a cure! Take care of your Wuzzy and yourself! My kitten is 9 months old and became suddenly sick about 2 weeks ago. I have already spent a TON of money for tests and drugs. I imagine this is a story which you're all familiar with. I already knew my little guy was FeLV+, so that saved a little time. My first question is: Are there any harmful effects from keeping my cat on interferon for longer than the normal 7 days in a row? I understand that 7 days on, 7 days off is normal, but now my vet says she is giving him interferon every day in addition to the standard therapy that she has just started of vincristine (sp) and the drugs that are normally given with that. Now while I don't want to start second-guessing her, I'm not sure how much experience she has with these drugs. Do any of you know? I'd appreciate any advice you can give--thanks! That's from Chloe. She says she got it from our cats. We're the ones who were lost this week. -- Steve -------------------------------------- From: Newtanator@aol.com Date sent: Sat, 21 Feb 1998 19:55:44 EST To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: where can I buy Ambrotose?? Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Dana, did the lady in california contact you yet?? I forwarded your message to her. If she didn't respond, let me know. I just crunch up one pill and put it with his crunched up B12 and C and put in water and give it with a syringe. I know he doesn't get it all, so I don't worry about him getting to much. barb -------------------------------------- From: "Steve Lackow" To: "FeLV Talk" Subject: Chloe Needs Help: Long Term Interferon Question Date: Sat, 21 Feb 1998 11:56:31 -0800 Reply-to: felvtalk@MailingList.net This is actually a happy thing to ask about, because your cat has to have lived a year after being diagnosed with FeLV to ask it, and has to still be healthy. I think I told everyone that I stopped the interferon therapy with Chloe for a week about a month ago and the anemia (pale tissue) returned a bit, so I put her back on and she's pinky pink pink again. When I called to refill the prescription today, which is clearly marked "refills" by the way, the vet's assistant said to bring her in for examination and tests. I don't want to. First, she has always tested negative on ELISA and IFA, it took a bone marow biopsy to find it in the first place, so why test? Second, Chloe may be a great patient, but she's a terrible and loud traveler and I'm afraid it will make her sick. Can anyone give me one good reason I should stress my cat out? Can't the interferon be continued indefinitely per protocol, in this case 1cc every third day? Or should you put it in your back pocket for when you really need it? The latter seems like taking a chance to me. But having the therapy lose effectiveness is also gambling. She is going to need to go to the vet again sometime, I want to stay on top of her teeth for one thing, and there are still some shots she should get, yes?, even though she's 100% indoors with no other cats? She didn't even say anything about that, but I guess Saturday is just about the very worst time to call your vet on something like this. -------------------------------------- From: Newtanator@aol.com Date sent: Sat, 21 Feb 1998 19:56:33 EST To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Wuzzy Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Kelly, How was wuzzy's check up today?? barb -------------------------------------- From: Newtanator@aol.com Date sent: Sat, 21 Feb 1998 20:01:30 EST To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Questions Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Beth, Welcome, I'm glad you decided to join. Sometimes things get a little slow on the weekend and we just had two losses in the group, cat wise, so we are all a little down. We lost Beast and Copley. as to the interferon, there is no real, set in stone way to use it. Most use it 7 days on, 7 days off, but some have had good luck with everyother day or even even every third day. It's kind of a what ever works best for you situation. I forgot to print out your letter so I have forgotten what your other questions were. will write second letter. barb -------------------------------------- From: Newtanator@aol.com Date sent: Sat, 21 Feb 1998 20:16:42 EST To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Questions Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Beth, I had to look up the vincristine and was surprised to see it is an anti cancer med. I have to admit, I have never seen a cat put on this one. It has some heavy duty side effects. Does your cat have cancer? Tumors? Lymphosarcoma? What makes me a little nervous, (I'm an RN, by the way) is your saying you don't know how much she knows about using these drugs. It IS used for human leukemia but feline leukemia and human leukemia are two totally different things. And what "other" drugs did she put him on with this drug? I don't mean to be asking so many questions in response to your questions, but these are some powerful drugs, not to taken lightly. I am going to ask Jim, our list leader to forward your letter to the vet that assists us and see what he thinks, if he has ever used it. We all second guess our vets, but I think we should call it, questioning what they are doing. We are the one ultimately responsible for what goes into our cats so it is our duty to ask what they are, and what the consequenses might be. Out of curiosity, how much interferon is she giving? 30 u orally? Don't worry, we will help you sort it all out so YOU can decide what you want to do and when. But don't worry about the interferon, it is very hard to OD on it. Will get back to you soon. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Cheri, The enchcea (sp) I have is a liquid with it's own dropper. I just give him a small drop. The ginko, b12 and c I crunch up and add to a small amount of water and give with a syringe without the needle of course. I know he doesn't get it all, so I don't worry about OD ing him, but I don't think you CAN OD with water soluable vitamins. It's the fat soluable ones you have to worry about, A,D,E,K. THose can do liver damage in large amounts. Good for you taking in another kitty. I would if I didn't have 17 already!! Only 4 are positive tho, and only one of them is sick. Merlin. But he is doing better after some very rocky times.
