Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Cheri, I am waiting for liturature on Ambrotose since it is coming snail mail and the powder itself came overnight mail. It is my understanding from talking to the woman who is the distributer that it boosts the immune system and helps the cat produce more of its own interferon. What we give our cats is Human interferon, which helps but because it is human and not feline, it can only do so much. It seems to be along the same lines as Acemannan, with the aloe plant as its base. You may also want to consider some of the homeopathic meds. I give Merlin a few drops of Echinacea liquid every day, as well as ginko biloba.. I am NO expert on homeopathic meds, Irene from Arizona I think uses them a great deal. I also give Merlin some Arsenicum Album, Veratrum Album and from time to time Sulfer, Rhus Toxicodendron. I still feel like I have no real idea what I am doing with this stuff, but the fact is, Merlin is still here. The doses in these meds is so small you can't overdoses them really. I just crunch them up and put in a little water and pop it in his mouth. I also know of a woman in Europe that does fur analysis of cats and dogs. I sent one of Merlin and all she knew was that he had Felv and was paralysed. She knew nothing else of him. Her analysis was quite amazing. She zeroed right in on his ears, maybe teeth, but she felt his ears, which of course is exactly what was wrong with him. She poo poo'd the idea that his illness was caused by the felv. It was something else. Told me the vitamins he was deficiant in and what to give him and when. If you want to know more about this, email me privately and I will fill you in. You can get and find out more about Ambrotose at: muman@turbosurf.com barb -------------------------------------- From: "James G. I have a friend who has recently started a list called Holisticat. It deals with non-allopathic therapies and nutrition. There are some really knowledgeable people on the list and it may be a source for those of you who want to add some things to what you are now doing for your babies. If you wish to subscribe, you can send a message to: majordomo@mylist.net with the message - subscribe holisticat in the body and that should do it. If you have problems, just let me know and I'll ask Sandy to subscribe you! See you there!!! I guess Kitty will go back to the vet next week. She is getting her urinary tract infection back. This time it seems harder to control and get rid of. That's never happened before. Hopefully Dr. Wang, my vet, will have some new idea. Poor baby has been through a lot with this problem. He gets a mere drop, but many humans take it hourly sometimes. barb -------------------------------------- Date sent: Sat, 21 Feb 1998 09:25:07 -0500 From: Andrew Sherrod To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Beast Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net To All: It is such a busy time that I haven't been able to respond to many posts. I just wanted to say that my husband and I are very sorry for the losses of such lovely cats (there have been several losses lately). We admire you for taking such good care of them and filling their lives with love. I wish there was something that we could do to take the pain of losing them away......... (also wish I could be a LITTLE more personal but my computer has been down and I'm reading over 500+ messages-but the sentiment is heartfelt for each and every one of you). First of all I really admire you for working at a shelter; I don't think I could do that. I'd probably end up adopting a lot of animals and then couldn't afford to pay the bills--very counterproductive. But I respect and admire people who can. Secondly, adopting the cat is a difficult decision: you want to help it out, but you don't want to lower your present cats' quality of life either. Through the past six years of adopting cats I have subjected the present ones with a lot of challenges when a newcomer steps aboard. I have found that despite the bad feelings, that for the most part the cats who don't along just stay away from each other. I always isolate the newcomer until well past their last shots for immunity purposes. During that time I'll take their blankets and rugs and put them out in the rest of the house to try and get my present cats used to their smells. Although it may help, there is still some animosity when the newcomer tries to mix in. I just recently read something that if you put a tiny bit of baby powder on all the cats' backs, it will trick them into thinking they all smell alike and make the transition easier. I've never tried this, but I'd be tempted although I don't think the cats would like the taste of the powder when they clean themselves. One more thing . . . we adopted a kitten right before Jake and Panther got sick--the kitten ended up friends with Jake, but Panther hates her. I think moreso because even though he's doing well, he's not his old self. I think her presence stresses him. Hope this helps. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Cheri, I may have already shared this with you . . . sorry if I have. I have a cat who's subject to URIs and she take a pill (treat form--loves it) every day. It's called Methio-Form. It costs about $6.00 and lasts almost a month and a half. It acidifies her urine. She has been taking for months without another URI. Perhaps you might want to try that route. Nancy -------------------------------------- Date sent: Sat, 21 Feb 1998 09:16:19 -0600 (CST) From: "Nancy A. Schmall" To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Drugs for Russian Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Linda, I apologize because I can't remember if Russian is on immunoregulin? I think you mentioned the vet put her on Interferon recently. Have you given any more thought to Prednisone? It does help stop the killing of red blood cells and gives the cat a chance until the interferon and immunoregulin kick in. At one point Jake was on 5 mg. daily; he now is down to 2.5 mg. every third day and I am hoping in a few months he will be off. I know you are concerned about the immune system suppression, but if you can use it temporarily it might be worth considering it. I was on it for 6 months--if I hadn't used it I would have bled to death (I had an intestinal disorder). After I was weaned off it (it was prescribed with another medication that took over the responsiblity of keeping me healthy), I never had to go back on it (except rarely for asthma). That was 12 years ago. I'm not trying to convince yet--that of course is your decision--I just wanted you to know of my experience with it. Good luck--my thoughts are with you and Russian. That is why some athletes take them. I used them years ago on a dog suffering from chronic pancreatitis. They did work for him, but the vet thought that maybe there was something wrong with Moose's liver also. nancy -------------------------------------- Date sent: Sat, 21 Feb 1998 11:21:48 -0500 From: Brad To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: lose Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hi all. Once again, thank You for all your wonderful sentiments re: my Beast. As I was waiting in the vet's office Thurs night while Beast was having his abdomen drained, I got reading the pets 10 commandments. I don't remember them all, but the last one stands out in my mind. It goes like this: Go with me on difficult journeys. Don't say "I can't bear to watch it" or "Let it happen when I'm not there". Everything is easier with you there. Remember I Love You. It helped me to make that difficult decision. Even though I knew it was for the best. I didn't find Stormie on Mon, my poor husband did. But every time I close my eyes, I see her suffering and wondering where I was. I couldn't go thru that with Beast. During Fri morn he just keep looking at me with that far away look, as if waiting for me to do something. I don't think he wanted to see me suffer any longer either. Everyone was so nice this morn at the vets. I took them in Brownies and a card to thank them for their compassion. I also gave the 'kids' doctor a card with a picture of the kittens. I took Wuzzy in to have his booster and to get his retest. His temp is normal. No signs of anything yet. So I pray he escaped this horrible disease. Let's keep plugging away. I do want you all to know, that I will continue to read all the e's that come thru no matter what happens with Wuzzy. I do pary that I will not need it. But you have all become like a family to me over the last few weeks. So you aren't getting rid of me too easily.
