Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net To all you Trailblazers, Thoughts from an old soldier: A war consists of many battles; not one or two but many. When we go to war, we expect caualties. Every casualty is painful; every casualty a tragedy; but every casualty contributes to the ultimate victory. But the war is not lost because we have lost a battle; we lose only when we quit the fight. There are only three words really important in this battle for our pets: Attack; Attack; Attack!! This has been a bad week in the war. All of your pets have given some; some of your pets have given all. Do not let their passing be in vain. Continue your battles; the war is yet to be won. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Cheryl, It is for the Copleys, Sashas, Beasts, Benny's, Vyvyans, Newts, Kallies, Topaz and any names I may have missed, it seems there have been so many lately, that we do what we do. We do it for the Merlin's, the Wuzzy's and the Russians. And this is war and we must hit it harder now than ever before. All my thoughts are with you. Barb and the magic man, Merlin. AND my other three positives that we fight for, Ariel, Duncan and Lor. -------------------------------------- Date sent: Fri, 20 Feb 1998 18:01:55 -0600 (CST) From: "Nancy A. Yet, I've lost three to FELV and two more that I know of have it. The way I understand it the shots are only 75--85% effective . . . and if they have the disease in the bone marrow they will test negative. How are you doing? Lots of love, Nancy -------------------------------------- Date sent: Sat, 21 Feb 1998 00:03:16 +0000 From: LawBet Organization: Home for Wayward Felines To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Archives Address Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Marilyn, Yes, I probably could tuck you all in at night since I'm sure that I'm up much, much later than most, if not all of you. But I will try not to intrude or become a bore. I will attempt to limit my participation to those times where I believe I might be of some help. Since we have been so very fortunate in not having any FELV+ kitties, I'm not much help in that regard so I'll just be your cheering section and let Barb carry the torch in the FELV brains department. I think you made the right decision; if he can go to the Bridge peacefully in his sleep that's the ideal way. I'm sorry you have to go through this. You are in my thoughts . . . I know no matter what I may say words can never fill the void. I was just lying on the couch with Sissy, my first kitty and no matter how much she tried to snuggle and be lovey is all I could do was look at sasha'a picture and wish she was here instead. You're right when you say that there are those that you just bond with, for you it was Copely and for me it was Sasha. Time will ease the pain but you will never forget that special little one. Be happy for the time you had and thank yourself that it was you with him and that he wasn't alone. My thoughts and prayers are with you. We've lost another one, Beast. I do wonder if I am strong enough to take on more little ones with FeLV+. So far I haven't been put to the test like many of you. My Mickey happened so fast I don't think it sunk in for a long time. My little two are in the middle of a wrestling match. I love every moment watching them. I take lots of pictures too. That will help later. I talked to a couple more vets today and volunteered my services as a surrogate mom to FeLV+ kitties. Most say by the time they see them they are too far along to save. I don't think some of the vets are even trying. Thank God for my vet. She is a blessing. I work at the Humane Society last night. I was so mad. A couple brought in a cat last week they couldn't care for anymore. They had adopted the cat after its original mommy died (an older lady). They kept this cat in the basement for 10-12 hours a day. The poor cat has no socialization skills at all. It may have to be put to sleep if it keeps biting people. It got me good last night. I wasn't going to tell anyone but they saw the blood on my hand. That poor baby! Sometimes I think the owners ought to get the treatment they give the cats. Enough of that! Thank you for all your help. Oh, by the way, Kitty turned her nose up at the liver. Chaz pigged out. They did the same thing again tonight. I'd like to get my name on the list as someone who will take in FeLV+ cats. I'm in the north central Iowa area. I've already talked to some of the vets in the area. they all say that by the time they see the cat it's usually too late. Not sure if they are even trying. Let me knkow. I'll sned more information if you need it. You are very brave & are to be admired for your ability to see so clearly when it must feel so dark & grim. Copley is very lucky to have you as his "voice" and as his Mom. These last few weeks have certainly taken a toll on our furry friends and us humans who love them so dearly. I am thinking of you. I wish there was something that we could do. It seems that everyday I rush to the computer only to read of yet another cat's journey to the Bridge. I anxiously await the day that we all can find the CURE. Save some for yourself as you work through all this grief. Everything changes. We come here to learn to communicate with others, and to share our our joys and sorrows. You did well by your little ones. This path has a heart. .marilyn. -------------------------------------- END OF PART 4: See Part 5 at: http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/Spa/8025/9802205.txt
