I took him for a normal checkup b/c he seemed to be losing weight--from 15 down to 11.5. Later, we discovered it likely that it was due competition from my girlfriend's cat at the food dish. SO, the positive test for Felv is that much more anomolous since he may have no symptoms, is an indoor cat (as is my girlfriends cat), and all these cats have had their vaccinations. The mystery is irrelevent, however. I just want to deal with the realty of it now. Tucker is only 6 years old and Im not ready to lose him now or even 2 years from now. This cat has been with me through thick and thin in my most fomative years and has given me all of his love and attention over this period, and now I will do WHATEVER it takes to prolong his life for as long as possible. After doing some initial research on this subject, I came across your page regarding some newer treatments for this disease. However, I had trouble breaking it down into laymen's terms. Should I have all these drugs administered to Tucker like some sort of anti-HIV cocktail or do I need to just choose one? About how much will the best one cost (Ill find the money)? My brother is a physician, will his status help me procure any of these drugs? Is there any test that will let me know how long my cat has had this disease so I can determine if he is at the end or beginning of his life expectancy for a normal cat living with the disease (i.e. if he's carried it for 2 years, it would seem he doesnt have much time left). Im so sorry to trouble you with this, I just want to get the laymen's lowdown as soon as possible. Thank you so much, Glen Zipper P.S. We are awaiting the results on my girlfriend's Cat. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In loving memory of Vyvyan: March 20, 1988 - August 15, 1997 James G. Merlin is doing better. He is eating better and walking more. Walking more because I have stopped carrying him everywhere. I know I mother him to much. But he was totally paralysed over Christmas and I got in the habit of doing everything for him. I must learn to control myself and start making him do more for himself. He really is a marvel. I call him my magical, mystical Merlin. barb -------------------------------------- From: Newtanator@aol.com Date sent: Mon, 16 Feb 1998 23:08:52 EST To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: lose Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Kelly, I am so sorry about Storm. They can go so fast sometimes. We just don't know what to do. Merlin's eye is about the same. I thought it was getting a little better, but maybe not. I am truly lucky the little guy is still with me. I enjoy each and every day with him. You are very special taking them in knowing that once you love them and they become part of the family, you can loose them like you did. What a terrible year this has been so far. It just has to get better. barb -------------------------------------- From: Newtanator@aol.com Date sent: Mon, 16 Feb 1998 23:19:12 EST To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: (Fwd) Bear and Nali's Mom Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Tony, Welcome to the group. As you are probably reading, this has been a very bad week but don't let that discourage you. We have some success stories to! But, unfortunately, when dealing with this and other diseases, sometimes we loose. Tell us about your babies. I must apologize for not letting you know about this list as I frequently visit Bear & Nali's page. I only recently found this site myself but it is very helpful & supportive. My 3 wild barn kittens are still all doing well & I try to keep informed of anything I can do to keep them that way. This is a great place for that. Take care, Dana (Sookey, Spitzie, & Charlie Cat) -------------------------------------- END
