They have 6 other healthy kitties so "Bogey" is isolated and doesn't seem happy. She can't keep him because of her 6 other kitties, she doesn't want to put him to sleep so she asks if we knew of a home, shelter, or foster home that might take him. Does anyone know of a place like this in the Houston Tx. area? Please let me know and I will pass the info on to her....Thanks! Belinda Happiness is being owned by cats... Come see why I'm so happy... www.geocities.com/heartland/estates/7122 -------------------------------------- Date sent: Sat, 14 Feb 1998 08:26:05 -0500 From: Brad To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: ambrotose Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Linda, My two little ones are on Acemannan injections once a week for the FeLV. Do you think it is over doing it to feed them the Ambrotose? They are also symptomatic FIP (fluid in the belly). Where do you get the Ambrotose? Thanks a bunch, Kelly, 'Storm' and 'Beast' -------------------------------------- From: "Lynn Stickels" To: "felvtalk" Subject: Re: Supplements Date sent: Sat, 14 Feb 1998 07:39:44 -0800 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Kelly, I give the supplements by mixing them with a paste vitamin such as Felovite 11 or the Nutracal. I add a bit of water, mix it up real good and give it to them with a big dropper. You can give it a little at a time if there is alot. I feed my cats Science Diet and my kitty with the gum disease eats mostly A/D and sometimes regular canned food. Stinker, my sick leukemia cat has been fighting this for about two years and I have seen a great improvement during these past few months that I have been adding the supplements and the interferon. He has been on the immunoregulin for the past year. I also treat my two asystematic cats with the supplements. I was interested in the Asragalus Root. I'll try that. Poor kitty! I'm always finding new things to stuff down his throat.:O) He doesn't mind all that much. I get it over with real quick and then am forgiven.:) Good luck!.................................Lynn -------------------------------------- Date sent: Sat, 14 Feb 1998 12:48:03 -0500 From: Brad To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: computer update Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Jim, Curious, re: your computer status. Gabby has Demodex mites and we won't get the dip to treat her until the middle of next week. My vet said we could give her Benydryl to help the itch. These mites are rare and usually only turn up on cats with compromised immune systems, which includes Gabby since she is FeLV+. I'm always reluctant to give my kitties a new medicine without first hearing others experiences with it. Belinda Unfortunately, the hunt for "safe houses" is at a crawl- prejudice is still the rule :( However, your friend may try this link: http://www.ecn.purdue.edu/~laird/animal_rescue/shelters S/he can scroll down to the "Texas" section and try to contact the shelters there. There are at least three in Houston, and several in surrounding areas, so this is a place to start. Best of luck, and please keep us posted on what you've found out. Talk to y'all soon. You can fill out a "Pet Match" card and see if anyone registered can take Bogey. However, up until the very minute they knock down my door to haul it off, I'll be working to keep these projects going. To date, though, I've not heard a word from my counselor about the status of this mess, so I don't yet know if the letters people are sending (have sent) have made an impact. I would still ask that, if you like the work I'm doing and you haven't yet sent a letter, please do so. It seems to be the only way that bureaucracies understand "worth". Thanks to all who have already sent letters- it really means alot to me. I've already received some informal approval for the newsgroup, so it's looking good right now. The newsletter is a bit tougher of an issue because we don't have a template to work from- anybody have any ideas? Take care, and I'll keep everyone informed about the status of both my computer situation and these on-going projects. Talk to y'all soon. The - fluid test I mentioned before was done on my 8 month old over 4 yrs ago. I wanted to warn those out there not to jump to the hopeful conclusion that since the fluid tests - that FIP is not the culprit. My babies now have not had the fluid tested. The color is classic FIP and they have the classic bulge to the abdomen that FIP infected cats have. Like I said, I have started putting Parsley powder in with the supplements. Parsley is a natural direutic(?). I am hoping it helps with that nasty fluid. I'll keep everyone posted. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hi there, Well tonight it is my turn to get up every three hours to feed her. My poor husband was worn out this morning. He took her back to see the vet. Her blood count down just a little and a slight fever. She is fighting the food and we do get some on us, but it's going in anyhow. She's not walking good, but still gets in the litter to go. They changed her antibiotic. The vet is really good, even gave us her pager number. She also thinks Russian will recover. But it will take some time to get her up and going. I've never seen her so beat down. Poor animals can't understand. Lord I have to work tomorrow at 11am to. I should be in some kind of mood. Talk to you later. And thanks for the support. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Linda, Slight fever post op is not unusual. I would guess her mouth is still a little sore to. Switch antibiotics is a good idea to. If she was one on for a while, it won't be as effective. I can feel for you, I worked every other weekend for 15 years. maybe you should just let her sleep at night. Feed her about midnight and then at 7. leave soft food, like some cooked chicken where she can reach it. She may surprise you and nibble on it some. Or baby food, that's nice and soft. Remember cats normally sleep about 16 hours a day when they are healthy! You need your rest to. Well, speaking of feeding, mine are waiting for their bedtime snack and Merlin has to get his vitamins and such. That's always a fight too! Take care and thanks for the update. I was thinking about you. If you'll e-mail me privately I'll mail along all the info to you at your address. Also, I'm going to sign up as a distributor for Mannatech so I can get a better price on the Ambrotose. I just can't bring myself to put my guys through the stress and pain of the Acemannan shots. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net HI Linda-- My understanding of Ambrotose is that it is a combination of 6 of the active ingredients in aloe vera. They work to help cells communicate with each other to stimulate the immune system. Because it is a derivitive of food, there can be no overdosing, and people with cancer are taking as much as one tablespoon per hour of the Ambrotose. I believe that, from what I've read, that the product would be helpful for any cat (or person) who was ill. I plan on using it on my cats at the rate of 1/4 tsp. per day for now, although I've been told that up to 1 tsp a day is recommended for very ill cats. I've also been told that a cat that's been on lots of meds may actually "detox" for awhile, and appear to be getting worse after the first few days of treatment. My cats just slept alot, and soundly, for the first few days, but played REALLY hard when they were awake-- something I haven't seen them do in a long time. Hope this helps. The sodium benzoate and benzoic acid are poisonous to cats. ( From "The Natural Remedy Book for Dogs and Cats" by Diane Stein) Linda P in Sacramento -------------------------------------- END
