Jim, "Phaedrus" has set up an archive of the daily mails from 1/2/98 at www.geocities.com/HotSprings/Spa/8025/ There's a lot of really good info there, but a lot of reading!! (It took me about 12 hours to go through it all). He also included a search with it, to make it easier if you have an idea of what you're looking for (I didn't). This is a really good group for info. and support. If you have any questions, post them here and someone is always sure to answer. I finished reading through the archives last night, there's a wealth of info there, and I have been talking with Jim about his idea of a newsletter to make some of the info brought up here on the mailing list easier to access and informative to vets and people with FeLV+ cats. I wanted to let everyone know that we're attempting to put this together, as it will be easier for reference use as well as for newcomers to the list. Has anybody seen a newsletter where you have enjoyed the format? If so, or if you have ideas or would like to help in this endeavor, please post to me privately at WORKPARK@AOL.com (as there is already plenty to read just from the mailing list). It would be very helpful if we could find a template to work from, and we know you all probably have some great suggestions!! Thanks in advance. I look forward to hearing from you! Why are you feeding these supplements to your cat? My two are symptomatic FIP and +FeLV (to my knowledge asymptomatic). I am feeding them C, B-12, E (wkly), DMG and Asgalus Root. I am wondering, maybe it is better to feed them your regiment. I am desperate to boost their immune system. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net I would definitely consider putting him on dimethylglycine minimally. This is given orally at 50 to 100 mg once daily. It can be mixed with his food. A series of Immunoregulin - once weekly for 3 weeks, then monthly until the 6 month retest - would certainly increase his odds for becoming negative. A few cats do revert to a negative status by either clearing the virus from their system or the virus beocmes "hidden" in the cat in low levels that do not register on the test. I'm glad he is healthy at this time and you are doing great looking into all the possibilities to keep him healthy. He has found a good friend. M. W. Russian saw vet yesturday for checkup. Her strength was better. Temp. down to normal. Spent this morning watching Contact with Jodi Foster. Russian went in at 9am. They had to remove three canine. Two top and one bottom. Her gums were a little white after the surgery but she is okay so far. Picking her up at 4pm. It's now 2:30. If anything happening to her they will call. I felt so bad this morning, she wanted to eat so bad and she kept meowing. She just started to get back some apitite. She knew where she was as soon as we got to vets. Now she has to heal again and I know personally the pain she has. Will have to force feed again. My oldest has a birthday today. But he has not tried to even ask how Russian is all week. So you see Michele, your not alone. My husband and I are not telling him either. Russian is such a treasure. Hope her health holds out. Watched the movie today so I would not be calling the vet every hour. It was good to. Well tons of e-mail to see. Will keep you informed. Dr. Myers recommended using the Digest-A-Meal, Life Force Super Antioxidant and the Total Flora Support. The later being for use with antibiotics. Dr. Myers said that he had good results with these. Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Alma. I'm Linda When Russian was diagnosed we had just lost a beautiful cat to the leukemia. It was new to us. He died very quickly. We at the time had 8 cats including Russian. They were all tested and came out okay, so they started shots once a year for protection. I did not keep the cats seperated. After moving and giving away all but three, we still have Russian and two males. The males still get shots. The new vet we have says the older they get the more prone they are to contracting the virus. The shots are not 100%. I'm optomistic tho. And hopeful. They do not miss their shots. Go with what your vet suggests. -------------------------------------- From: "phaedrus" To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Date sent: Thu, 12 Feb 1998 14:45:30 +0000 Subject: (Fwd) Re: Cancer treatment/homeopathic remedies Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Not a problem. I should have been more specific on the diets I consider "good commercial diets". I had made the assumption your veterinarian would guide you in this respect. Purina, Nutro, Iams and Hills I consider "good commercial diets" as they do contain all the essential ingredients needed for health, growth, and reproduction. These companies can document this fact with very extensive nutritional trials with cats. Unless you are in the hands of a homeopathic veterinarian I do not recommend you attempt to create your cat's diet from basic ingredients as this requires too much specialized knowledge and I do not want to put your cat at risk. Prepared diets are NOT lacking in essential nutrients, just the enzymes are damaged during processing. I was probably oversimplfying a bit by saying you can use a commercial diet plus enzymes, but this is exactly what you can do and the results are remarkable. I use raw diets in my practice routinely, but I am not in a position to see your animal regularly to properly administer such a regimen, so that is why I do not make it as a "blanket" recommendation. Natural remedies are exellent, but as with all treatment modalities are not a panacea. Allopathic medicine, prepared nutrients, radiation, chemotherapy, and synthetic vitamins, minerals and other preparations all have their place. It is up to the health care professional to know where to use them for maximum effectiveness. I firmly believe that anyone who discounts the value of our technology and tries to pass it over for "natural remedies" when the technology is needed is misguided, misinformed, or bordering on malpractice. Our cat is 7 years old and has feline leukemia with lymphosarcoma in her spine. She to is on Prednisone (5mg) twice a day for the past month. Although we have known that she has been testing positive since 3 months of age, no problem surfaced until this past September when she developed a severe limp in her left rear leg. After many tests and an MRI she was diagnosed with the above symptoms. There has been almost no improvement in her condition with the Prednisone. We have been advised that the only option left is Chemotherapy and we don't want to put her through that. Has anyone had success and/or recommendations in treating the above? Are there any mailing lists for cancer in pets? According to the vet oncologist, cats don't seem to have the side effects that people do to chemo, and can take it easily. We got a call from our regular vet today that the Immunoregulin finally came in, and I'm bringing her in to start the injection tomorrow. They aren't going to be giving this to her by IV, they prefer injections instead. Any thoughts about this? They have encountered a problem getting in the Interferon Alpha. They have been told that this is a special order item that will take a few more weeks to get. Can anybody help us with that? I don't recall seeing that anyone else has gotten that kind of response. We're in Tucson AZ and would appreciate any help you can give us. I had debated bringing this up on the mailing list, as I don't feel this is the place to air a situation like this, but I am very upset at this response. The original question for Dr. Myers had come from myself, and I greatly appreciate that he took time out of his very busy day to answer me. I don't feel he deserved that tone or type of reply to his assistance. I'm not trying to lecture anyone, but I think that in the future, if anyone disagrees with someone else's comments, please keep in mind that we are all trying to help one another through this, and respond in kind. If it is something that upsets you so much that you feel you must respond, please post it privately. In her case, we got her when she was 14 months old, and she had not been taken care of properly. She was already missing some teeth (including one of her upper fangs) and is now missing 10 or 11 that either fell out at cleaning or had to be removed. Even with abcesses, she has always recovered well from dental surgery, and has resumed eating within a day. I hope this helps. We now call her our toothless wonder : ) Wishing you and Russian all the best, Pam -------------------------------------- From: "phaedrus" To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Date sent: Thu, 12 Feb 1998 16:10:11 +0000 Subject: Re: ordering Innterferon Alpha Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hi Pam, > have encountered a problem getting in the Interferon Alpha. Thanks, Pam Did they say where they are ordering it from? If they are ordering from Island Pharmacies in Wisc. and having this problem, it is news to me. If they haven't ordered it from there, you may want to give them this address to try to get it in faster: Island Pharmacy Services 1707 Highway 51 N.
