Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net I just got off the phone with Vetri Science and this is the first report they have on their records of any reaction to DMG. The product you used is their human line of products. It is formulated the same as the rest of their DMG products. The immune response that the product elicits takes days to weeks to "kick in" and the molecule is too small to be antigenic. This is quite a mystery and they said they would be happy to confer with you or your veterinarian. Their phone number is (800)882-9993. Your veterinarian can order the small animal formulations directly from them on this number. M. W. She was extremely lethargic, in fact.. she looked like a hermit crab that had just crawled out of its shell. This deep malaise continued all day. Looking back on this, through my retrospectroscope, I think she and I were experiencing what is noted in all the FeLv literature as " a down day". It may have just been co-incidental, the down day, and the dose of DMG. I will wait to complete the Clavamox gtts before cautiously trying the DMG again, and will try a 50mg dose this time. The Infinity that you suggested, will arrive here on Friday.... thanks- marilyn -------------------------------------- Date sent: Wed, 04 Feb 1998 14:18:44 -0500 To: felvtalk@MailingList.net From: "Michele R. Can you help ? To me, if I were my friend's parents, I'd take it to another vet imediately. They live in a town where there are probably not many clinics. Thanks, Michele Michele R. I'm not familiar with it but maybe I should be. In addition, there is no vaccine, no cure, and unfortunately, not even an accurate diagnosis (other than maybe biopsy) is available. Except for the added attraction of the fur, it's much the same as a shot of insulin, in fact, you could even use insulin syringes, I do. The playpen is a great idea. I used one for Merlin when he was so bad. I didn't have to worry about him falling or getting stepped on. Russian sounds like he is going to do just fine. Just give him time to heal and get his strength back. That is an interesting name. How did you come to name him that? Is he a Russian Blue? Feline Infectious Peritonitis. There is a "wet" kind and a "dry" kind. The wet is the easiest to spot because the tummy swells, full of fluid. I compare it to an alcoholic with a huge belly full of ascities, or fluid. THe dry is harder to spot. They get thin, lethargic. Both are bad and difficult to treat. I have been told out of the big three: felv, fiv and fip, fiv is probably the best of the three with the longest life expectancy. I can't back that statement up as I , thank god, have only been cursed with felv at this point. Check out, I think it's the John Hopkins web site. THey have a lot of information on fip. But there has been some controversy about giving it. Seems some vets swear by it and others, like mine, won't have it in the building. You would have to research it and talk to your vet and decide if you want to give it or not. barb -------------------------------------- Date sent: Wed, 04 Feb 1998 16:23:31 -0500 To: felvtalk@MailingList.net From: "Michele R. You have guessed my response. Seek a second opinion. This could be an abcess with a foreign body imbedded that is not allowing it to heal. It could be a tumor or cyst.
