If it holds then once a month is continued, if it doesn't then the weekly regimen is resumed. This is about the best we have at present. M. W. We generally try varied doseage regimens and additional products in order to get the optimal overall result. Adding other immune stimulants or protective or anti stressor type products may provide additional benefits. M. W. There are lots of us out here who are supplementing intake, this would help. .mg. -------------------------------------- Date sent: Sun, 01 Feb 1998 17:10:29 -0800 From: Dana Crow Organization: Magical Moments Preschool To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: If you were me Dr. Meyers Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Dear Dr. Meyers & All, I am wondering where to begin. If you were in my position, what would you do to keep my 3 felv kitties in the best of health. I have read so much here lately & don't quite know where to begin with taking info to the vet.I have been printing off pages like crazy to take with me. I am still going to try the Pau D'arco Vit B12 & Amoxycillan unless anyone can tell me otherwise. I am wondering about the Interferon, Immunoregulan &/or DMG. I am wondering whether too much is actually bad. I will also continue with the Vit C in their water & the Echinacea as I feel this is good for the old immune systems. Thanks for all the help! How much fluid should they be intaking in 24 hrs? 'Storm' is 4 1/2 lbs and 'Beast' is 6 lbs. Thanks! Cats do not consume nearly as much water as dogs do. I would check the litter box for good sized, regular urine production. If this is occurring, everything should be okay. M. W. I don't know anything about the treatment you suggest. most (but not all) natural remedies had little to no bad side effects so are worth a try if there is no immediate effect needed. You will probably need to try various regimens to see which produces the best results as we do not have any "pat" answers at this time. M. W. To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: liquid intake Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net A reasonable estimate would be about 8% of body weight per day if on dry food and about 5% on wet. This would be about 1 to one and a half ounces per pound per day. It is possible that a cat will get by on less than this so monitoring intake and result would be the key. M. W. But, rule of litterbox seems a fair place to start. thanks, .mg. -------------------------------------- Date sent: Sun, 01 Feb 1998 19:41:14 -0800 From: Dana Crow Organization: Magical Moments Preschool To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Dr Myers:DMG, interferon , vaccine questions Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Is it common practice to use Interferon & Immunoregulan at the same time? How do we know which to begin with if not? Dr. Meyers, do you ever sleep? We all appreciate your imput so much & I know that I feel so much better knowing that we can get answers so readily. Thanks again for all your time & patience with those of us struggling thru. I'm so glad you took your cat to another vet. It is unfortunate, but sometimes when it is known a cat has Felv, that is all that is seen. I just went thru something similar with Merlin. Over Christmas he went from being fairly normal to totally paralysed. Of course, my vet thought the felv had spread to his brain or spinal cord. In fairness, I have to admit, I thought that must be it as well. He wasn't in pain, so, thank god, I didn't put him to sleep. To make a long story short, if that's possible, it turned out to be massive inner/middle ear infection. Once that was discovered an treated vigorously he slowly began to move again. He is still a sick little boy and I don't know if he will make a complete recovery, but after what he has been thru, anything is possible. The point is, never give up. Once you get your cat home, vitamins, and good nutrition are at the top of the list. Also, some people in the group have had good luck with small doses of prednisone and ImmunoRegulin used together. Do you have another cat? One that could used as a donor? It has to be felv free tho. But that would help cut down on the expense of a tranfusion. He may need it to get some strength back and to give the meds a chance to work. Anyway, we are all here to help you when you need us. It has helped so much to have a vet helping us. But we do draw strength from each other. I know I never would have gotten thru Merlin's crisis with out all of them. I generally start both together. I do sleep, but I only need about 6 hours a night. If I get behind I can occasionally catch up on a weekend. M. W.
