I have had him now for over 3 years--and he has not been ill a day in his life. He lives with many other cats (I foster cats and kittens for my local animal league). The disease is spread by biting only--and if the cat is given high grade food and vitamins--it can live for many years--and also, the cat may be a carrier and never get ill. FIV+ cats need Vitamin C and should have their teeth checked annually for gum disease. FIV is a very misunderstood disease--it is not a death sentence. Many FIV cats never exhibit symptoms and live a normal life span. If you want more information, articles, references, etc.,just let me know. Sometimes all that we can do is just not enough. The reason I am involved with this effort is that I feel it is like a legacy to Puff. Chloe, had a wonderful human--even if the time was short. My thoughts are with you in your time of grief. My little kitty and best friend, Benny was diagnosed Saturday with FE LV an I have been blaming myself and can barely stand it. I brought a stray up from the end of my driveway and think HE infected my kitty. My 2 others have been tested just a couple days ago and one is a carrier, but I can't help but blame yself for bronging home a stray who has been outside even though my cats were not in a lot of contact with this cat. I am hoping little Benny got this from my one who tested positive as a carrier instead of a stray I tried to help. Benny is showing sx, mouth sores, etc. and is on Interferon which seems to be helping. I am taking him to get another opinion with a very nice veterinarian I called whose clinic is well known in the area near where I work. Please keep your fingers crossed for my best friend and pray he pulls through, he's what keeps me going in life. Thanks for just listening. Here's a short description of Pau D'Arco taken from the URL: http://www.vitawise.com/topic155.htm The bark of this Brazilian tree has many historical health benefits, including a remedy for Candida, athlete's foot, and other fungal infections. It is reputed to be effective in nutritionally supporting the body's fight against some forms of cancer, and to be good for the digestion! This herb is also used to support red blood cell count. Great herb that can help provide natural antibiotic, antiviral and antifungal benefits and inhibit yeast infections. 50 Capsules/450mg $11.00 I hope this helps. Talk y'all soon. It was part ignorance on my part and part ignorance on my vet's (at that time). The guilt will never go away. But, I can tell you how to deal with it - stop thinking of what you should have done and deal with what life has thrown your way. Look forward, not backward. Who knows? Maybe you'll be the one finding a cure for this?!? Have been down and out with the flu--missed alot. First, I am sorry to hear about Chloe's passing. It's so hard to lose a precious life. As for the post on 1-16, about "ambratose", the ingredient is spelled "Ambrotose" and is sold by Mannatech. See them at Mannatech-inc.com. This is a MLM company, and from what I read on the Web Site, there may be two products worth trying. I didn't call Dr. Bob anderson in Dalles, OR about the product (he's probably in the MLM), but if enough people are interested in the products, maybe we could buy in bulk and share the costs, and I'll call him for dosing info. Also, in reference to the Baytrill post-- I have been using this for several years now as an off-label use for URIs, specifically "rhino" virus. I've had more success with this than any other antibiotic, and without the reactions I've seen with other products. For some reason it (the Baytrill) seems to agree with Felv+ kitties. To Kathy G and the 3 Furries in Daytona Beach--for the herpes flare-ups in your kitties, use the colloidal silver, one drop in each eye two times daily until inflamation has cleared, plus two days after. If you don't have the original description of the type of colloidal silver to use from my earlier E-mail I'll re-post the info. Also, the Reishi mushrooms extract can be used as a dietary supplement, and can the colloidal silver. Happy Chinese New Year to all of you, and your kitties--it is the Year of the Tiger. Maybe it is a good omen for our little friends. It has to do with plant sterols and sterolins. In South Africa, these sterols have been made into a medicine called "Moducare" (hypoxin), and it has been shown to be quite effective in the treatments of both human and feline immunodeficiency diseases. I'll be adding more info in the coming days, so keep checking back. I'd also like to hear some feedback on this info from anyone who has either already heard about this substance or who may have further insight on this. Take care, and best wishes. I did the same thing and it cost my dearest cat friend his life. We can't go back. It doesn't do any good to the one's that need our help now. Just understand that most of us have done the same thing, brought it in ourselves. It sounds like you are doing the best thing for Benny. Keep it up. Good nutrition is the first line of defense. Vitamins and such. Will write more tomorrow and I'm sure you will hear from others as well. Til tomorrow.
