I give him the immunoregulin twick a week and it has helped greatly. When he starts feeling better, I go to once a week. It depends on how he is doing on how often I give it to him. -------------------------------------- From: "Lynn Stickels" To: "felvtalk" Subject: Barb re: the tests Date sent: Thu, 15 Jan 1998 19:33:32 -0800 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net I took five of my kitties in today, which by the way was quite fun.:) ALL NEGATIVE!:O) I take four more in Saturday morning. My vet ran out of the test. He's going to get some more so will finish up all of the other cats next week. He is just a small country vet so I keep him out of a lot of stuff.:) So far so good.:O) -------------------------------------- From: Newtanator Date sent: Thu, 15 Jan 1998 21:54:28 EST To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Drug dosage difference Organization: AOL (http://www.aol.com) Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net I will be very interested in what you find. So will Jim, I know. That is quite a difference in doses. Keep us informed. She is out of the office tomorrow but will be in on Saturday. I will call and find out for sure and see if she will give me the name of the veterinarian that she talked to. My veterinarian was going to then call Purdue University here in Indiana and tell them what Colorado state was recommending, seems Purdue had no recommended dose. It all gets very confusing, all I care about is that it helps my cats and maybe others! I picked him up to feed him. I must of pinched him or something. At least I hope that's what it was. He has never done anything like that before, I was shocked. That's a good idea to give the ImmunoRegulin twice a week. He was getting it IV twice a week for a month, so SQ would be good to. Thanks, Thanks goodness tomorrow is Friday and a long weekend, I'm beat. Linoleic acid has been shown to be helpful in fighting cancer since it works through the immune system. There is a fantastic article written about it by UWM (Madison, Wi) at: http://www.wisc.edu/news/thisweek/Research/Bio/Y97/cla.html Although there is no mention of use for FeLV, facts found in this article and others is what led me to conclude that your observations on chicken fat had merit. I'll have to do more research on this idea, but I think you may have really hit on something. Not being a veterinary researcher, though, I'm not sure even where I'd find such data relating to linoleic acid used on cats with immune deficiencies. Do you have any ideas about this? I'd be interested in hearing about anything you find on this subject. Take care, and I'll look forward to hearing from you soon. In loving memory of Vyvyan: March 20, 1988 - August 15, 1997 James G. Their bodies seemed to find a bit of eqilibrium between their immune systems and the virus. Since HIV and FeLv are both retroviruses, the same may hold true for all of our little buddies. If Merlin continues to lose weight you may want to try a liquid fast for 24 to 36 hours-- just fresh-made chicken broth and the NutriCal-- his body may be accumulating some of the meds rather than clearing them from his body. Merlin's fluid intake should be monitored to make sure he doesn't become dehydrated. Or, if your vet will give you an IV bag, you can administer the IV fluids at home to help clear his system. It's been awhile since I've had to do one, so I don't remember how much fluid they're supposed to have per pound of body weight. Also, if you do use an IV, be sure to place the bag in heated water for awhile-- lowering their body temperature with too-cool fluids will drop the body temperature, which is more dangerous than a fever for a FeLv+ cat. As always, I am thinking good thoughts for Merlin and all the other sick babies. I thought she said 10,000 units and what was on the paper work was 1,000 units. Sorry, sometimes I'm just a gomer. It did come in late today and I will be picking it up first thing tomorrow morning. I can't believe the change in her just from the transfusion. She's eating like a PIG. She's still not like she was before but so, so much better. I know she probably will never be like she was but I'm happy with her and she seems to be also. It sure did help Sasha. Her ears and gums are even pink once again. And boy did her appetite come back. Sorry, but I don't know anything about Steroids except it doesn't help their immune system. Merlin will be in my prayers. Carol from Vancouver -------------------------------------- END OF PART 3
