He stays in a cage during the day while I'm at work so he is safe from the other cats and mostly from Kate, the Gold Retriever pup. He wanders farther and farther tho and just now made the trek all the way to the laundry room to use the cat boxes. I have been keeping one with him so he doesn't have to travel and of course in the cage. He eats well and loved the A/D. Thanks for the suggestion. One tiny little thing, he seems to have gotten a little conjunctivitis in one eye but fortunately, I have some antibiotic drops, ( I have a cupboard that rivals a pharmacy!) so it's now being treated. I brought home his ImmunoRegulin and will give him the shots as long as it is cold like this. Considering he was near death on Christmas, he is doing absolutely wonderful!! Fever will as will anemia. If he hasn't had a CBC lately, might want to have it checked. But a cat's heart rate is usually fairly fast, ask the vet what is normal, but I'm sure it's prob over a 100 bpm. We are due to get some snow ourselves, but not much. Very strange winter. The northeast is just getting killed! Cats are so individual, that one treatment may have to altered slightly to work on the next. Everyones situation is different, that's what makes this list so great. We have all this combined knowledge and experience to draw from. Pick and choose what you think will work for you and try it. It seems to be working pretty well. I am in the Krogers so much getting cat stuff, people stop me and ask me questions about their cats care!! The clerks don't even bat an eye anymore. All cat food etc and Peanut Butter or something. Sometimes I just something human so they don't think I'm totally crazy. I understand the budget problem too well- I'm currently in my third year of law school. I'm pretty tired of being a poor student-- especially given that vet bills can be so expensive! I admire your kindness in giving that boy a home and for being sensitive to the fact that he has now been exposed to FeLV. Since your roommate's cat is being seen by the vet every 7 days, s/he is probably monitoring whether she seems anemic. One of my cats pants when he plays for short periods, partially because he gets himself so excited and partially because he is fat. We try to watch his food as much as possible-- but we are very concerned that Yo-yo not lose weight, and feeding three cats seperately is a difficult task. Keep up the good work with all three of yours (it is only a matter of time before you realize your roommate's cat is really yours;) )! I know two different cyberfriends that are trying to find homes for two FeLV+ kitties. One of them lives in Califorina. I'm not sure where the other lady lives but she is willing to provide transportation for the kitty. If anyone can help, please contact me and I will give you more info and their email addys. They asked for help and I didn't know where else to turn. Thanks in advance to all!! BTW, about my kitties.........Grace is doing fine, no symptoms right now. Gabby has had a little diarrhea and is starting to get itchy spots again. I hate giving her Ovaban for the itching as she acts likes she doesn't feel well while on that medicine. If you have a positive leukemia kitty that is otherwise healthy, do you administer immunoregulin and interferon? I watch all of my cats closely, whether they are tested or not. I am kind of confused as to treat the ones I know are positve or to wait until they show the slightest sign of sickness. On the subject of testing all of them(16), I would rather have that credit with my vet for an emergency. I never know when one of them will get seriously ill, wheter it be leukemia or other. But, I am seriouly thinking about getting them all tested. I just wanted to know what you do with the so called healthy leukemia kitties.........................Lynn(Stinker) PS. By the way, my Stinker is still doing great!:O) For those of you who have problems feeding your kitties who don't have an appitite(sp?) I feed (kind of force feeding but I think he enjoys it now.:)). I feed him one can of A/D cat food a day and I have seen a great improvement. He is getting so spoiled.:O) --------------------------------------- From: "Lynn Stickels" To: "felvtalk" Subject: re: scabs Date sent: Mon, 12 Jan 1998 20:27:57 -0800 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net My subject must sound kind of strange but I have noticed that alot of my cats have scabs on them. Mostly on their head and neck and one on his behind. I don't really want to keep bothering my vet, so I am asking anyone out there who may have the same problem. It doesn't seem like ringworm because it's not circular but I'm not that familiar with this problem. I also have a special problem with my two leukemia kitties, they have a bald, scabby spot right above the eye. At first, I thought that they just got into a fuss but it has been there for quite awhile. I clean it everyday with betadine and an antibiotic ointment but it is still there. Also, my Stinker has bald, scabby spots on his ears. Any ideas??? This problem is kind of new to me..................Lynn(Stinker) --------------------------------------- From: "Lynn Stickels" To: "felvtalk" Subject: re: quality of life Date sent: Mon, 12 Jan 1998 20:43:17 -0800 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Cheryl, As you might know, I do not separate my "leukemia kitties" from the rest. Being separate is very stressful on them. I do know that "it is best to separate the leukemia cats from the negative ones" but that isn't always the right thing to do when it comes right down to it. Being sick doesn't have to mean a life sentence of isolation and loniless. My leukemia kitties love to tuckle up to me at night and they love me so very much as I do them. I would rather them live a short life of happiness than a longer life of unhappiness.......................Lynn(Stinker) --------------------------------------- From: "Lynn Stickels" To: "felvtalk" Subject: re: quality vaccinations Date sent: Mon, 12 Jan 1998 20:49:28 -0800 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Cheryl, I understand what you mean by quality of vaccinations. I spend quite a bit more getting my vaccinations from my vet than from the feedstore or other places. It just gives me confidence that I am giving the best and when it comes right down to it, the cost isn't that important regarding our loved ones.:)...............Lynn(Stinker) --------------------------------------- From: "Carol Gentry" To: Subject: Sasha Date sent: Mon, 12 Jan 1998 21:15:46 -0800 Send reply to: felvtalk@MailingList.net Well Barb if everything goes o.k. tomorrow, my stepson is going to take Sasha and I to the vet tomorrow. But I heard on the news today that Gresham was without electricity so I'm going to call in the morning very early and make sure they are open. How ironic. I finally find a way and now they may not be open. If they're not open I will get her there as soon as I can. This time I will tell them how urgent it is. Keep your fingers crossed.
