You can find out all about (and print copies of info on) Immunoregulin at our FeLV project web page at: http://www.angelfire.com/il/felv/ There, you will find (hopefully?) enough evidence to convince your vet that Immunoregulin does wonders for FeLV+ cats- that is, unless they've developed lymphoma, then it won't work :(. However, Interferon and Acemannan will. Interferon is a naturally produced substance in the body that fights off rogue cells such as cancer. Acemannan is a derivative of the Aloe Vera plant- you can read about some of the studies done with it at our site, as well. > 2. How do I or my vet get this? You will also find the protocols and addresses for obtaining these drugs at our web site, so print them and take them with you as well. > 3. Should I use it on Chloe now, while he's okay, or do I wait until he > is showing signs? That is something of a judgement call. The Immunoregulin is probably a good idea to keep his immune system in tact. However, you may want to consider using some of the holistic approaches to supplement this. There are many schools of thought on this question, so you'll have to talk it over with your vet (or a vet that is informed) to decide the best course of action. > 4. Does the vet dispense these or do I give it to him? If you choose to go with the Immunoregulin, the vet will likely treat him- IV is the best way to administer it. The interferon is given orally, so you can do that yourself if you feel confident enough to handle Chloe while administering it- you also have to be careful to ensure that you have measured the proper amount to give him. The holistic recipes are something you can "cook up" and give him yourself. > 5. Has there been a case with any of you where these didn't work or had > any side effects? I'll let others answer this question as my Vyvyan was never given a chance to be treated with these drugs :(. > 6. What are the side effects? I've not read of any side effects with the Immunoregulin or holistic treatments. There are side effects in humans after prolonged use of Interferon, but I've not found any references for side effects in cats- the doses are miniscule in comparison, so side effects are not a likely possibility. > 7. How expensive? This, of course, depends on your vet. If s/he doesn't add a fee to the cost, the Immunoregulin was quoted to me at $40.00 a vial- this vet was right up front with me, so I know that this is what they charged him. The Interferon runs at around $100.00 for a 1L bottle, but that's enough to treat five cats for a year (with a little left over). The holistics are probably pretty cheap, but I'll leave that up to the holistics experts on the list. > I really apppreciate any or all information you are able to give me. > > Thanks > Jenn I hope you'll keep us posted on how it goes with your vet. Take care, and I wish you the very best of luck in getting Chloe the treatments he needs. Please feel free to ask as many questions or make as many comments as you need to get your vet to understand what is happening. Talk to you soon. This address to obtain the Interferon is: Island Pharmacy Services 1707 Highway 51 N. Woodruff, Wisconsin 54568 1-800-328-7060 Remember, like Acemannan and Immunoregulin, this drug has to be ordered by your vet. Good luck, and I hope that Gloria can get her vet to order it. I've also read that fungal infections can be treated sucessfully with with powdered sodium ascorbate ( one of many types of vitamin C), diluted in distilled water. Let me know if you're interested, and I'll try and find the recipe. I have been suffering from anxiety attacks now that my Mom has gone home and Merlin is alone while I'm at work. I know he needs to be turned over, checked to see if he's wet.....For about the last week, he really hasn't cared much, but tonight he appeared to be trying to crawl out of the chair. He couldn't, but he was trying and I knew at once he was wet. So he once again cares about being wet!! A small thing but a good one. I am trying about everything I can try. I now have Steve's elixer and he is getting that to. Poor guy never knows what I'm coming at him with. He hasn't meowed in a while, but purrs when I pick him up or snuggle with him. I'll take what ever I can get. Barb -------------------------------------- END
