Saturday January 3, 1998 11 Messages ================================ From: "phaedrus" To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Date: Sat, 3 Jan 1998 12:40:38 +0000 Reply-To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Hi everyone, Well, the list seems to be up and running, so let's start using this list (with the email address: felvtalk@MailingList.net) instead of sending them to the "felvtalk" list on my account. Could at least a few of you send test messages to be sure that everything is going alright on your end? I'd hate to be paying for a service that doesn't work. I've created a submission form on the FeLV project web page ( http://www.angelfire.com/il/felv/ ) to make it easier for newcomers to subscribe to this list. I've also made a few cosmetic changes to the page to make it more readable. Anyway, I think the discussions were in the middle of the use of Pau D'Arco for treating feline leukemia. I, too, had been told that this holistic approach showed promise for treating FeLV- though, I haven't yet found any studies to back that up- not even anecdotal ones. Does anyone out there involved in holistics know more about this? Take care, and I hope we can get the discussions going smoothly in this new forum. Talk to y'all soon. Frantic for something, anything that would help, I got some homeopathic meds that I really didn't know what to do with. The very dear woman who was trying to help me is from Europe, where the doses are different and, of course, she couldn't see the cat to really know what was going on. At first we thought sore joints or muscles, perhaps anemia. Neither has proved to be the problem. My vet feels the FeLV has spread to his spinal cord and perhaps complicated by FIP. Merlin eats, he is aware, purrs and can hold his head up now, a little, for a short time. I am not new to FeLV having lost two already, but with them I KNEW what it was. With this, coming on so suddenly, I am baffled and not totally convinced that this is what it is. When a cat has felv, the vet just assumes that is what it is, but other things could happen. At any rate, I am now giving him B12 and Vit C. I read from one of you that Vit C won't help a vaccinated cat. I was shocked when I heard your vet had used a live vaccine. I didn't think anyone did that anymore. All mine get the killed virus. Homeopathic meds are very hard for me to get. I have a few, but they seem to be the wrong ones, wrong doses etc. I tried one www site, but aol won't access it that is said to have the doses. I am open to suggestions from one and all. If you are interested in using the holistic medicines I might suggest that you subscribe to Holisticat - there are very knowledgeable people on that list and I'm sure they can give you some help on the dosages and such, and they are a very caring group of people. If you want to get on the list and see if they can help you, send "subscribe holisticat email address last name and first name" to listserv!home.ease.lsoft.com Good luck and keep us posted! > > Kathy G and the 3 Furries in Daytona Beach =^.^= - Rusty =^.^= - Smokey =^.^= - Money See us at: http://cgi.gambitsys.com/homey/webdoc5.htm The Cat: Mother Nature's Masterpiece! ---------------------------------------- Date: Sat, 03 Jan 1998 18:24:18 -0400 From: David or Courtney Aman To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Subject: Re: Announcements, test, etc. Reply-To: felvtalk@MailingList.net I got you loud and clear. Schmall" Subject: felv and Merlin references Reply-To: felvtalk@MailingList.net Dear Barb, So sorry to hear about little Merlin--hope that something helps. Is he on any allopathic medicines--what about interferon or immunoregulin? Am confused about Vit. C. I know it will not convert an FELV+ cat to negative status if the cat has been vaccinated, but I hadn't heard that it would not help a vaccinated cat at all. There is an excellent book, "The Natural Remedy Book for Dogs and Cats" by Diane Stein, which has very good information regarding herbs and homeopathic medicines. Good luck; Merlin is in my thoughts!
