Section 4

 

(a)    Anabaptists were people that only adults should receive the sacrament of baptism.

(b)   Henry VIII was the English king that broke the Catholic Church.

(c)    Mary Tudor was Elizabeth I’s half-sister and queen before her.

(d)   The Book of Common Prayers was revised from Latin to English by Elizabeth I and made more acceptable to Catholics

(e)    Elizabeth I became Queen of England in 1588 after the death of Mary.

(f)    The Catholic Reformation ended corruption within the papacy itself.

(g)   The Council of Trent reaffirmed traditional Catholic views that Protestants had challenged.

(h)   The Inquisition was a Church court set up to root out heresies during the Middle Ages.

(i)     Jesuit was a new religion that was determined to combat heresy and spread the Catholic faith.

(j)     St. Teresa of Avila symbolizes religious renewal because of her deep devotion to God.

Section 5

 

(a)    Nicolaus Copernicus was a Polish scholar that hypothesized that the sun was the center of the universe.

(b)   Tycho Brahe was a Danish astronomer that provided evidence that supported Copernicus’s theory.

(c)    Johannes Kepler calculated the orbits of the plants revolving around the sum.

(d)   Galileo Galilei made the first astronomical telescope and was able to see the mountains on the moon and sunspots.

(e)    Andreas Vesalius published On the Structure of the Human Body this was the first accurate and detailed study of human anatomy.

(f)    William Harvey described the circulation of blood for the first time.

(g)   René Descartes thought that human reasoning is the best road to understanding.
