COMMENTARY: Before you begin any task on your vehicle you should have a manual. A chiltons, Haynes, Clymer, or manufacturers manual will give you some understanding of the steps required to complete the job. Still working on this page, but if there is anything specific send an e-mail and I will try to get it on.
The bulbs on the Mercury Capri that I know. Front Clear lenses 1-S1156 and 1-194 Ea.. Front orange lenses 1-194. Rear License plate and Trunklight combo 2-194 bulbs 1 for each light.
Standard Tools Required: Metric socket set
Special Tools Required: N/A
Special Parts Required: Automotive metric class 10 bolts, lock washers, and nuts. ( Found reasonable at Pepboys parts store.) 4 10mmX80mm Fine thread. You can replace both or just the bad arm. Trailing Arm:FOJY-5K898-A, Price w/tax: $66.98 / Bolt Kit:No Number I didn't buy it. Price: $10.00 at Mercury dealer.
NOTE: There is no torque setting that I know of for these bolts. I personaly took them to 50 Ftlbs. I also only replaced the arm with the bad bushing.
1. Jack up rear of vehicle. Put blocks in front of front wheels.WARNING:You should always use jackstands when under a vehicle, your jack could fail causing serious injury or death. 2. Remove rear tire or tires for ease of arm removal.
3a. This part of the arm is mounted between wheel spindle & part of strut.
3b. Remove rear 10mm bolt.( This bolt froze in the rubber bushing and I had to cut with hack saw.
4. Remove brake line clamp mounting nut, bolt is built into clamp.
5a. This part of the arm is mounted to the frame directly behind the door.
5b. Remove front 10mm bolt. ( No loose nut, nut welded to inside of frame.
6. Remove trailing arm. Install new arm.
7. Install front 10mm bolt.
8. Install Rear 10mm bolt, lock washer, nut.
9. Install brake line clamp to new arm. ( Some modification of clamp required )
COMMENTARY: Standard Tools Required: If you have Mercury 91-94: 19mm wrench, 98-99 Dodge van or pickup: 15mm wrench.
Special Tools Required: Filter wrench or strap wrench, oil pan capable of holding drained oil for disposal.
Special Parts Required: Oil filter to fit vehicle. The amount and type oil called for in owners manual or repair manual.
1. Run engine to operating temperature(I don't always follow this). Turn engine off.
2a. Jack vehicle up to allow for access of oil pan drain bolt(most fullsize trucks and vans will not require this).WARNING:You should always use jackstands when under a vehicle, your jack could fail causing serious injury or death. 2b. Put blocks behind wheels and set parking brake to prevent vehicle from moving.WARNING:Do not skip this step because if the car moves it could cause injury or death. 3a. Slide oil drain pan under oil pan drain bolt.
3b. Remove oil pan drain bolt and drain oil into pan. Check bolt for metal particles or debris because this could be a sign of more serious trouble.WARNING: Oil may be hot and exhuast parts-components are hot and can cause severe burns. 3c. When oil has finished draining use rag to wipe any oil around drain plug hole. Install plug back in oil pan drain hole. Tighten bolt til snug then one pull beyond. Caution don't over tighten.
4a. Place oil drain pan under filter to catch oil as filter is full.
4b. Remove oil filter, wrench may be required(On Mercury Capri it is easier to remove from top). Drain filter into drain pan.WARNING: Oil must be properly diposed of at a site equiped to recieve used oil(local automotive store, call first). It is Illegal to throw oil away or pour on ground. 5. Install new oil filter. Tighten hand tight then give one more pull. Don't use wrench or excessive pressure as filter maybe damaged and restrict flow.
6a. Locate oil fill cap and remove. Located on valve cover or in case vans they have a filler tube with cap.
6b. Lower car and pour all but one quart of oil type and amount recommended by manufacturer. Reinstall oil fill cap.
7a. Start motor and look for leaks. If no leaks turn off motor and let oil drain back into oil pan. Check oil level dipstick for level.
7b. Pour in last quart as needed to reach full level. Caution don't over fill as this could cause engine damage.
8. Properly dispose of oil and enjoy your protected ride.
