The evening was so hectic. More family was showing up and while some were helping with the preparations, others were getting in the way. By the time Mom got back from the funeral home with my cousins, dinner was almost ready.
I don't remember what we had to eat that night. I do remember lining several tables up the length of Mom's dining room/den area and having to find enough chairs to seat everyone. Mom's house isn't a mansion, but it isn't what you'd call small either. It was packed that night. We did have an enjoyable dinner and Grandma was able to come out to the table and join us. And we were able to spend some time looking at some old pictures from Grandma's younger days.
For me, however, the day was bittersweet. Besides my uncle dying two days earlier, Grandma's birthday was the day Steve found out about his cancer. And a good friend's mother died suddenly.
