Black Mage Guide
Introduction
To understand Black Mage one must first understand the balance in the game between the ultimate weapon versus the perfect shield.  In the extremes on both sides you have the Paladin, the perfect shield and the Black Mage, the ultimate weapon.  All of the other jobs in the game are make trade offs between the defense and raw damage capability.  With that being said, Black mage is the ultimate and end all of direct damage but with the extreme trade off of virtually no defense.  For this reason, a blm truly needs to be with an good pld to truly unleash his powers.
Black Mages do there damage chiefly with elemental spells that lop off huge amounts of hit points.  In addition to the elemental spells, blm comes with a set of elemental based enfeebling spells to reduce the abilities and hp of its victim.  The blm also some with a set of individual set of transport spells and party escape spell that is a party saver. Also they have the most powerful AOE spells in the game.
Primary Abilties
Magic Points (mp): Every spell the blm has expends mp, the more mp you have the more you can cast before resting.  In high level xp parties it is more important to have higher resting mp rate because rarly will you completely unload all of your mp onto a single target.

Intelligence (int): This is most important attribute for the blm.  Int determines the accuracy + damage of your spells.  The higher the int the more damage your spells will do and more of them will land at or near 100% damage.  Int also determine you magical defense (invisible triat).  The higher the int the lower the amount of damage you will take from elemental spells.

Magic Attack:  This is an invisible score that is determined by your level, your magic skill level and you int.

Agility (agi): This determines your ability to dodge a physical attack, like a sword attack for example.  Mobs will usually come at you from time to time and it is handy to be able to doge an attack while the tank provokes it back.

Mind (mnd): I only mention this one because it factors into you resistance against enfeebling spells.
Races
Tarutaru: By far the most powerful of all the blms.  Tarus have the highest mp and int.  More over, they have the second highest agi.  The down side to the tarutaru is that you are kind of stuck playing mage jobs.  They have a realy low hp, vit, str.
When playing this race always increase int when ever you can, dont wory about boosting you mp.  You truly do not need it.  As for gear over all, spend as little on it as you can.  Taru really dont need expensive gear to be good.

Humes/Mithra: Along with Humes they have the second highest int/mp and the mithras have the highest agi.  Also with the RSE gear they do come close to the taru in mp and int.

Elf/Galka: These Races can still be effective Mages but they both hare hurting with the combination of low mp and int.. They need to boost int where ever they can and use food for boosting there mp regeneration rate.
