The Singapura's Origin and Profile
The known history of the Singapura is that it started in 1975.
During a trip to Singapour, Mrs Tommy Meadow, a Siamese breeder from
California, found these cats simply walking along the piers.
Tommy was so fascinated by their body type and their ticked fur that
she chose 5 and brought them back home with her to start her breeding
program; a sixth cat was added to her breeding program one year later.
The Singapura is a small to medium-size ticked-coated cat with males
weighing approximately 6 to 8 lbs and females 4 to 6 pounds.
The body is moderately muscled and firm.
It has a round head, a stop on a short nose and a square muzzle, and large
almond-shaped eyes that can be either gold, green or hazel coloured.
The ears must be large at the base and have a forward tilt.
The coat, silky and very short, must lie close to the body.
The only colour accepted is ivory with a brown to beige ticking on each
hair.
The face has lovely markings, and tabby markings can be found on the
inside front legs and on the knees of the back legs.
The Singapura is not a loud cat but likes to complain vocally.
It is very playful and loves to catch anything as if it is prey.
It loves to hunt and to do this, the Singapuras will act like wolves
in that they will encircle the 'victim' before attacking it.
The Singapura is very affectionate and loves to perch on shoulders and
sleep next to its human companion.
It is very sociable with other cats and loves to play with them.
The Singapura adapts very well to apartment living where he will
investigate every little nook and cranny; a sunny windowsill and lots of
affection is certain to make it a very happy cat.
