It was five months ago since I did my first Wicked Wahine contest at the Glendale Skate Park, which was my first contest (I took 2nd place). This event was a little bit different as girls were selected to enter the event due to the location: the world famous Kelly Belmar�s Pool. Kelly built his clamshell pool in his backyard specifically for skateboarding. Previous to skating this pool, I had only seen it on TV and in magazines It�s a HUGE pool has a roll/in channel that is similar to skate parks from years ago. I talked to Wally Holliday of California Skate Parks who said he had some influence with Kelly�s pool, which I can certainly see and feel. This pool is like no other pool or skate park as it has no shallow end and the corners near the channel are so tight that you think your gonna scrape the nose or tail of your board.
As for the event, it was INCREDIBLE!
There were three heats and the top girls from each heat got to skate in a final heat. In my heat, I was the youngest and I skated like I never skated before. The feeling was AWESOME! I was pushing myself more and more each run as the crowd of people cheering for me every run. This really motivated me to go for it more and more each run. I even found myself going again just after finishing a run because it was so exciting. I as also super excited to find out that I got selected from my heat to compete in the final heat and skate with legends.
In the final heat I skated with legends such as Cara-Beth Burnside, Mimi Knoop, Heidi Fitzgerald, Holly Lyons, and Nicole Zuck. There was no placings, but there were some prizes for the longest grind and best trick over the death box. Skating in the final heat was so fun as I was super happy to session with some of the greatest skaters in the world. It was so AWESOME as people who I never met were coming up to me and telling me how much they liked me and my style of riding. At the end of the day I felt like I was on top of the world as I got a lot of complements, did some interviews and most of all...I had FUN!!!
