Classroom sharing is an important part of student learning.  Students experience listening, speaking, and other necessary communication skills.

Initial sharing times may be overwhelming to students.  A good way to help ease students into this process is by allowing them to select what they will share.

SHOW AND TELL
1.  Give students a choice of what they would like to share.
2.  After several opportunities of sharing, begin to give students a topic to choose from.  For example, if they are focussing on a subject in class, students should find something that goes with that subject.
3.  Students can be scored on a variety of areas.  I usually have them scored on:
                 a.  Content:  Did they give enough information?
                 b.  Organization "FLOW":  Did their show and tell "Flow"?  Or was it choppy?  Too many "and" or "um"'s?
                 c.  Volume:  Doesn't matter how good the presentation is if we can't hear you!
                 d.  Dynamics:  Flat monotone presentations may put your audience to sleep!
                 e.  Grammar:  Not "me and my friend..."

BOOK SHARES
1.  Something that we know is a good way to increase vocabulary, life experiences, and more is through reading.  During a book share, students share what they have been reading.
2.  Student brings their book to class.  Think "Reading Rainbow".
3.  Title, Author, Grabber (what would interest someone about this book... give part of the plot, but  NOT THE ENDING!!!!)
4.  Recommendation (for whom and why)
5.  Students are usually scored on the above information for content, and then also the categories under "SHOW AND TELL".
