Quandary Project     


PART ONE:  Brainstorm
Write ten questions that you have wondered about.  Then for each question, write three supplemental questions.  Example:
Q:   What happens if a cement mixer stops turning?
  S1.  Will the cement harden inside?
   S2.  How will you get the cement out?
  S3.  What makes cement harden?

PART TWO:  Research (Computers)
Select one of your quandaries to research on the internet.  Find at least three (3) websites that have information on your quandary.  Write down the answers to your questions.  Write down the URLs (the website address example http://www.geocities.com/feliciasamson) for your bibliography.

PART THREE:  Research (Encyclopedias/ Books)
Using the same quandary from Part Two, research your topic using encyclopedias and/or other books.  Possible books besides encyclopedias include:  dictionaries, non-fiction books, etc.  Write down the answers to your questions.  Write down the title, author, publisher, copyright date for each book for your bibliography.

PART FOUR:  Research (Interviews)
Select three people to interview about the same quandary in Part Two.  At least one of the persons should be fairly knowledgeable in your quandary.  You should have at least three questions for each interview.  Write down the person�s name, city and state, and a sentence that describes why they were chosen for these interviews for your bibliography.

PART FIVE:  Write-ups
For Parts Two through Four, write at least three paragraphs for each of your sources (total of nine sets of paragraphs --> 3 sets for Computer research, 3 sets for Book research, 3 sets for Interview research).  Each paragraph should cover information from your questions above.   P1.  Introduce the source; P2.  Summary of information from this source; P3.  How does this source help you with your quandary?

PART SIX:  Production
Front Cover:  Interesting and appropriate title, your name, date, illustration
Contents: 
(1) Word art and definition of your quandary
(2) Write-ups from Part Five in final copy (ink or typed -- Times New Roman font size 12, double-spaced)
(3) Bibliography (See above Parts Two, Three, Four for what to include)
Back cover:   Three paragraphs.  P1.  Introduce yourself; P2.  Describe your quandary and why you chose it; P3.  What do you hope your reader will learn from this book?
