To Whom It May Concern:

I have known Felicia Samson as a colleague and friend for six years. She is intelligent, creative, responsible, and devoted to teaching and education.

Felicia is a highly respected classroom teacher at Lee J.H.S. Parents frequently request her as a teacher for their children. She allows students the freedom of being teen-agers in an atmosphere that nurtures respect and independence. She frequently organizes lessons in stations to encourage different mediums of instruction and to accommodate the different learning abilities of her diverse student population. Ms. Samson is able to hold her students accountable for their individual behavior and their academic performance. Students enjoy being in her class and always have the satisfaction of learning from a challenging and interesting curriculum.

Many of Felicia's talents and strengths came through last year as she assumed the leadership role of village leader. She led concise, informational, well-organized team meetings. She facilitated countless parent conferences in a warm and receptive way and helped guide both parents and teachers toward solutions that were best for the child. She planned and implemented fundraisers, assemblies, and field trips for over 150 students. She made sure that all adults working with a child were kept informed about any decisions regarding that child?s academic or emotional well-being. She also helped develop interdisciplinary curriculum and team building activities. Felicia is a very effective and conscientious team leader.

Felicia Samson has worked extensively with the Area 3 History and Cultures Project, an organization devoted to quality staff development for social science teachers. She has conducted historical research to provide deeper content for her classroom lessons, many of which center around the theme "History is a Mystery."  She has developed standards-based curriculum for English Language Learners. She has participated in a number of book groups led by history professors at U.C. Davis. She has presented to numerous regional teachers and is an effective presenter. Felicia is a poster child for life long learning.

In addition to all of these accomplishments, Felicia has had a variety of other leadership positions as well: S.S.T. coordinator, substitute vice-principal, homework club coordinator, choir director, summer school principal and more. Her positive approach to these jobs has made her a success at each one.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if I can be of any further assistance.

Sincerely,

Laura Nielsen
