Looking for a job in public education administration?

Some helpful tips...

1.  Administrative Credential alternatives.  If you've had on the job leadership experiences, consider taking the
School Leaders Licensure Assessment.  This alternative measure of your knowledge and alignment with the standards for administrators provides you with your preliminary administrative credential.  California requires one of the highest scores for passing this assessment.

2.  The
Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Joblink.  You can search through these links to find a job that is suited to you.  Use the search by county feature, or the advanced search feature.
3.  Ed-join Website.  You can also search through these links to find jobs in California.  You can search by county, or do the advanced search.  If you register (it's free), you can apply for jobs online.

4.  Looking for a job in New Mexico?  Here's a link to all of the
school districts there.

5.  Not all school districts use ACSA and Ed-join, so it's a good idea to also check out the individual school district websites.  Also, the school site might not be listed on ACSA and Ed-join, but the district's website may list it.

6.  Preparing for the interview.
-- Dress for success.  The person you have to most impress is the most conservative person on the committee.  So, wear a suit.
-- Use
mapquest to find directions to the interview location, and arrive about ten minutes early.
-- Select interviews around 10am.  The interview committee will be awake and together by the time they interview you.
-- Don't interview right after lunchtime.  The interview committee may be too tired from lunch!

7.  At the interview.
-- Be concise
-- Answer the question that is asked.
-- At the end of the interview, if they ask if you have any questions, you can ask about what areas of growth the District or school have.

8.  After the interview.
-- Know that many highly qualified candidates have applied for the position, and you are one of the ones who was selected for the interview!  My former Superintendent told me that the average number of
interviews for getting a public school administrative position is 15.  A friend told me her mother went through over 100 interviews for her Principalship that she just retired from.
