José shares his middle name with a monastary in Spain and with a Carribean island - it is of course Monserratte.




José wrote the themes for "Chico and the Man" but he also starred in an episode as an actor.   He played Chico's cousin Pepe Fernandes




The song Niña was written for the Felicianos' first child - Melissa - born in 1988.




José's career began in New York's Greenwich Village where he played at Gerde's Folk City, The Cafe Id and The Bitter End.




José is appearing in Euprope in June -in Spain and Austria.

"Pegoa" Is a Feliciano composition but did you know it means rice burnt on the bottom of the pan?!




José wrote "Tale of Maria" after a recording engineer told him about his romantic problems.




José's birth place - Lares in Puerto Rico - was the place where the first Puerto Rican flag was raised.  A replica of that first flag flies on a hill over looking the park dedicated to José in Lares.




When José first visited London in 1967 he was relatively unknown but appeared on several TV shows and made a record produced by Dusty Springfields brother, Tom Springfield.




José has appeared on seven grammy winning recordings including a duet with Gloria Estefan on her album "Carribean Soul"




On 12th June 2001 José appeared at a benefit for Gujarati Earthquake victims.




The nursery rhymn part of "Rain" first appeared in a song recorded by Peter Paul and Mary called "It's Raining".




In the mid to late eighties the Felicianos spent a great deal of time in Austria and wrote two songs about Vienna - "Sound of Vienna" and "Vienna Nights". Parts of "Never Gonna Change" were recorded in Austria and José even had an Austrian manager!

On the cover of "That the Spirit Needs" José is riding his horse - it was called Herman.




José's fist public appearance was at El Teatro de Puerto Rico in 1956 when he was ten years old.




José wrote a concerto in memory of percussionist Paulinho Magaleas. Pauluinho worked with José for many years before his death in 1976.




During his first visit to London in 1967 José recorded four songs produced by Tom Springfield the brother of Dusty Springfield - the songs were "My Foolish Heart" "Adios Amor" "At Day's End" and "Only Once" which was to appear on "That The Spirit Needs" some four years later.




José and Frank Sinatra had simultaneous number ones with "Strangers in the Night José in Spanish and Sinatra in English.




In an interview in "The New Musical Express in the mid seventies John Lennon praised José's version of "In My Life".
