SPIRIT JOY

I once heard "Spirit Joy" described as José Feliciano's new CD. the reality is that this release is not truly a Feliciano CD at all!

It is in fact the work of the Spirit Joy Children's Ministry.   A group of children from José's home state of Connecticut brought together under the musical directorship of Sister Marie Roccapriore M.P.F whose work has inspired the children to use their musical talents to help others.

The proceeds from the CD go to help build an infirmary at a convent in New Jersey.  José contribution was to add his guitar and backing vocals to their work but the "stars" are the children (including the young Felicianos).  José dominates only a few tracks; most beautifuly the opening and closing tracks "Let the Children Come Unto Me" which is in the style of a Gregorian chant.

This was and is a project close to José's heart and the result IS joyful and spiritual in a way which many have found inspirational.

I am not religious but one song in particular "Don't Be Afraid" has come to mean a great deal to me. On at least three occassions when I have been afraid (once in the middle of a hurricane in mid atlantic on a damaged cruise liner!) I have used that song as prayer.

If you approach this recording as a Feliciano CD you may be disappointed but please listen to it if you want a greater understanding of the man whose music we love.
