JOSÉ IN EUROPE NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2004

Today (1st December 2004) sees the third of José's performances at Jazz Cafe in London, next week he will travel to mainland Europe to appear in Lichtenstein, Austria and Italy. This page will give news of the tour as and when I get it so if you see José tell us about it!

Jazz Cafe 29th November

To a wheel chair user Jazz Cafe presents difficulties and for that reason I went for one night only. I needed it to be a special night and it was!

Jazz Cafe has become a mecca for Feliciano fans and every appearance is a "gathering of the fans", a chance to meet old pals, catch up with news and meet new people; that is what makes the place special and I was under the spell as much as any one. Anyway, I go weak at the knees as soon as I see the stool and guitars. For me the physical problems are largely over come by the frequent reports I receive from "upstairs" and the time before the performance began soon passed

Two years ago I arranged to meet Anders in front of the monitor "next time" and lo and behold there in front of the monitor by eight o clock was Anders soon to be joined by Marie Rose. José came on stage at 9.30pm (my bed time :) ) preceded by the band which included Bob Conti who I had not met before, I got to talk to Bob and he is, as everyone has said, a great addition - welcome back Bob. José was soon settled on the stool as the band began to play "Chico and The Man".

The show followed a familiar pattern of acoustic set, electric set and finally another accoustic set. The whole thing was flawless and the ninety minutes he was on stage flew by. For me, the highlights were "El Jinete" (2004 version as he pointed out) and "The First Time Ever I saw Your Face". It occurred to me that although many of these numbers appear regularly in live shows there were several I had not heard before proving how wide José's repetoire is.

Afterwards I chatted to Greg and Frederico (happy birthday to Greg!). Like any other fan I want to meet José Jazz Cafe makes that difficult but, as always word got to him and he came down to me. Jazz Cafe was still incredibly noisy and conversation was difficult but I managed to tell him how great the show was and how much I love "A Mexico Con Amor". José asked to speak to my mother which I thought was very sweet. Watching him I was was filled with the thought that he looked gorgeous!!!!!!! Dressed in jeans and tee shirt at that point he looked like he does at the end of "Guitarra Mia".

Then he was waylayed by some Japanese girls I never got to say good bye but those girls were not born when I became a fan...I hope they get as much pleasure from José's music as I have over so many years.

Alan made this comment about the three performances over all "Although I have seen Jos before at the Jazz Caf, his performance this time round still continues to totally amaze me. He was on blistering form, and mesmerized the packed audience with his tremendous guitar artistry, and superb, powerful, heartfelt singing voice. He performed a broad mixture of old and new material, in both English and Spanish, some available on record, but others you can only catch by seeing him concert, and that makes it even more special, leaving you waiting for the next time you can experience a totally unique artist, along with his superb band. Its so difficult to pick out any particular number, but I found Papa was a rolling stone totally captivating and "Golden Lady" was something special too. What an experience!"

From England José and the band travelled to Leichtenstein, Austria and Milan. In Italy José played at the Blue Note Club and the audience was treated to around fifteen numbers including "Affirmation", "Malaguena", "Cien Anos", "Ain't No Sunsihine", "To Love Somebody", "I Got A Woman", "Purple Haze", "The Thrill is Gone", "Rain", "Light My Fire", "Che Sara", "Feliz Navidad" and a "drum solo" with Bob Conti.

Marie Rose was fortunate to see José in both London and Austria and wrote the following "After one incredible week of London I was ready to go for some more days in Austria here they come.

In Innsbruck which was the first evening of 3 evenings, Jos was there for all of us and gave us all a splendid show.

In Timelkam people got crazy, they were so pleased to have such a great artist in their small town, and were asking Jos to come back as soon as possible. By the end of the show Jos gave them something special as most of all when he comes to Austria, he played the Bleu Donau, and people got out of their seats and were clapping. When he finished with Feliz Navidad there was no holding back anymore they were calling Jos again and again on stage, what a great evening.

In Voitsberg which was the last concert Jos did some song that I never heard before on stage from him, very romantic songs his way of saying goodbye to all of us, one of the songs was "Lets just Kiss and say Goodbye", and some other ones which I have no title for, we all could feel this is goodbye. Also he apealled in his on very special way, like only Jos can do it to the people for to think about it by the end of this year, how we all live together on this planet of earth. He was saying that we should love instead of making war, feed the hungry ones and clothe the naked ones, also the right to speak freely in this world, without having the fear to get imprisoned, before he started his rendition of "Imagine",you could hear a mouse walking on the floor so impressed was everybody and I truly believe that people got Jos's message.I had to cry when Jos started to sing the song Imagine and with me some other people as well And I was very happy to find a shoulder from my good friend Tina, to cry out on it.

I must say this year have been a great year for me I have seen Jos many times. I wanna thank Jos and the Band all of my JF Fans all over the world who touched my heart in so many ways, and most of all I wanna thank God because without God in my life I'm sure that life wouldn't have been that easy. So that was it,for this year I just want to say one more thing I wish everybody on this planet of earth a Feliz Navidad y Prospero Ao 2005. Con Amor Marie-Rose"

DANKESCHN
Thank you for 3 wonderful concerts to Jos and his Band. These 3 evenings were the most beautifuls and exciting in my life. I'm so impressed with the music and the messages, when I'll remember to this feelings my heart begins beating like crazy and an cold shower is running over my neck.
Everyone in these concerts had a great time. In Innsbruck there was a very romantic Christkindlmarkt (Christmasdope) which I passed when I was walking to the Congresshouse and going back in my hotel.
From Tuesday until Friday I rent a car and I startet at 12 pm. I needed 4 hours from Innsbruck to Timelkam. I took the Highway 2 hours and 2 hours a countryroad. You may say oh so a short time but in europe some things are smaller than in America.
And I made this trips for the first time alone. So what a big step for me to be independent. In Timelkam everything was absoluty perfect the sound, the audience, the promoting, Jos and his band in brillant form and I had a seat next to Marie-Rose.
On Thursday I was the same time on the road to visit the next concert in Voitsberg. During this evening Jos gave his message of peace, brotherhood, love, nonviolence to the audience, told us that the people never are the guilty one, only the corrupt governments and then he sang IMAGINE. By my heart and by my soul every government should think so. I thought to myself JOS FOR PRESIDENT!!!
Nobody shouldn't make any weapon, so nobody could't die from them. So make Love not War. This message is so important for me, because I know what it means to live with the image of the bad germans. But in my heart I'm feeling always as a woman from the middle of europe with many friends in our neighbour countries like Marie-Rose. France is only 20 km from where I live in the Palatine. But time goes by and the concert was ending with FELIZ NAVIDAD.
On Friday I picked Marie-Rose up from her hotel and drove her to Airport in Graz. We had time to talk about the previous evenings and I can say Marie-Rose and me, we have very deep friendship, because in so many things we agree. At the Airport we enjoyed in a small bar a Cappuccino and then I had to leave. In Graz I gave the car back and had to spend 10 hours in the train before coming home.
