José's Diary A page in which we list all the gigs we can find

If you play guitar there are a large number of tabs to be found here

11th July 2004: Normal Service IS restored :) I was tired of scrolling through all the stories I have found this year so decided to start a new page; the previous six months can be accessed via the link above.

Someone I know saw José in Europe and asked about the duet with Dionne Wawick. José knew nothing of this project so if you see an album of various artists dueting with Dionne Warwick check the content before you buy it.

click here and here to read two stories I found this week then go to the diary page for links on the new gigs listed on José's personal web site. While looking for these links I also found ANOTHER GIG in Miami for 24th July!

17th July 2004: STOP PRESS: SO! The news we have been waiting for; a NEW CD and it would seem there is an August release date. It has a Mexican flavour with over tones of Ranchero and Mariachi music and seems to to be call "Amo A Mexico". For some great photos of José in the studio on 1st July click here and then go here for the interview about the new album which Fil mentioned on the notice board. José talked about the album during the gigs in California and seemed very excited. Obviously I will post more news as soon as I can :)

23rd July 2004: STOP PRESS! At 10.00 today Jazz Cafe put tickets on sale FOR JOSÉ'S 2004 BRITISH DATES they are 29th November, 30th November and 1st December :). More on the diary page.

25TH July 2004: What a week :) No more news except I have just added a different link, to the diary page, for the Jazz Cafe site which is easier to follow.

1st August 2004: I've just added Carlos's review of the Miami concert to the "Seen and Heard" page and there are some interesting additions to the Fantastic Feliciano site, use the link above to go there.

8th August 2004: Several people sent me this story and Tina posted the link on the notice board. It also appear on José's personal website.

Another addition to the personal web site is a press release about the new album which is now called "A Mexico Con Amor". I've linked to this version of the press release which is slightly different, I think, but it might just be my translation.

I also found this story which shows just how well loved José is in the latin community.

15th August 2004: It is good to see the new gigs on the Personal Web Site's tour guide, especially as they include more in Europe; there is a great sounding club in Milan (for which Fil sent me the link on the Diary Page) Istanbul and Liechtenstein, perhaps not an obvious choice but it is between Austria and Switzerland where he has already played to full houses, so, perhaps an astute move!

There are also more gigs for Jazz Cafe, however these additional dates are not yet on sale which seems a huge shame as people are travelling from all over Europe to see José in London and have the right to as much choice as possible. I checked with Feliciano Enterprises and those dates are confirmed by the William Morris Agency who are responsible for the booking, Jazz Cafe was closed following a fire last week so, perhaps the new dates will be released in the next few days.

Hate to say it but another year has rolled on and we are coming up to José's birthday. This site has always marked the event but this year I won't be around to do an update on the day so if anyone has any ideas tell me soon.

22nd August 2004: There are some interesting photos on the "Newsroom" page of José's personal web site. They were taken from a video made to promote the first single from the new album, the single is called "Cien Anos" and is a very famous song dating from the 1950s.

Last week I posted a link to CDUniverse giving a release date for "A Mexico Con Amor" they have now changed that date and, as they are the only retailer (or, indeed, site) giving a release date at all, I have removed the link until the situation is clearer.

While looking for the new album on Amazon I found this link to a CD called "Perfiles" a joint project between José and Ednita Nezario who appeared on "Guitarra Mia". It is "our" José - any one heard of it?

I am aware that there are gaps on the diary page with no information links; I haven't had time to research them....if anyone would like to try feel free!

No more news on Jazz Cafe tickets.

29th August 2004: It seems that the release date for "A Mexico Con Amor" is 21st September; CDUniverse give the following track list which pulls together what we already knew from the links I had found:-

1. Corazon Corazon
2. Cucurrucucu Paloma
3. Cien Anos
4. De Cigarro En Cigarro
5. Escuchame A Mi La Culpa
6. El Jinete
7. Ella
8. En Mi Viejo San Juan
9. La Malaguena
10. Mexico Lindo Y Querido
11. Tu Recuerdo Y Yo
12. Tu Y Las Nubes

I also found this page about Leonardo Schultz and Gary Mason both of whom have worked with José

I am on holiday for the next two weeks so there may not be any update; PLEASE use the notice board to update each other if you find things about the new album; or if the remaining Jazz Café tickets go on sale.

Especially, use it on 8th September to pass birthday messages to José!

19th September 2004: I'm Back :) Nice to see the remaining Jazz Cafe tickets on sale and I hope visitors to this site were not too incovenienced by this situation!

The big news, of course, is that "A Mexico Con Amor" is out on Tuesday I ordered it from Amazon yesterday and received an e mail today saying it had been shipped sooooooo I hope to have it by this time next week.

Later today I will try to fill in some of the gaps on the diary page but in the mean time Marie Rose has found something of a mystery! this site suggests that José will return to Austria in December; the dates clash with those given for Istanbul so I don't know; as always I can only reflect what is on the internet!.

26th September 2004: For those people like me who are STILL waiting to hear "A Mexico Con Amor" you can get thirty second samples at Wallmart.com . Of the bits I have heard I love "En Mi Viejo San Juan" and "Mexico Lindo Y Querida" and I welcome the lightening of mood these songs offer after the "bolero period".

There seems to be some confusion over the exact dates for Jazz Cafe as the Personal Web Site has 29th November to 2nd December and 4th and 5th December while the venue has 29th November - 1st December and 3rd - 5th December personally I have made my booking according to the latter and will alter the diary page to reflect these dates. We also now have confirmation that the Istanbul gigs are cancelled and replaced by the Austrian dates Marie Rose found last week. Personally I'm glad; Istanbul is not the safest place in the World at the moment!

3rd October 2004: This week has seen most of us finally receiving "A Mexico Con Amor", a high spot for me in a week in which I have travelled almost a thousand miles for work! I said I would try to review the album today but I actually find it quite difficult; I know little about the technicalities of music so this can only be a personal response to what I heard........and I LOVE it :)

José sounds in brilliant form and the music actually reminded me of the (inaccurate)notion that Feliciano means "the happy one" because he certainly sounds happy! The "bolero period", with hindsight, put restrictions on the music produced which have now been lifted. This is José having fun with his music improvising and creating in a way we have not heard for a while. Not every artist would choose to perform with a mariarchi band but the band make a real difference to the range of sounds we hear on each track. This album hit me on an emotional level and reaffirmed WHY I am a Feliciano fan and why I spend so much time web mastering this site (despite the aggro it causes me!).

The tracks which are already running through my head are "En Mi Viejo San Juan", "El Jinete" and "Mexico Lindo Y Quiero". It was while listening to "Cien Anos" that I applied an "acid test" asking myself if this was the first song of José's I had heard in 1970 would I still be a fan all these years later...the answer was a resounding YES....this is the first single and I wish it well.

There will be so called Feliciano fans who complain this is not "cool" in the way they define this notion of modernity; there will be others who would have preferred an English album etc etc but for those of us with a genuine love of José and his music this album is amongst the greats....to some it possibly the greatest ever.......it is the essence of the man and his art.

10th October 2004: Little news this week; I am sorry that some fans have been confused and disappointed by the seeming change in José's European itinerary with, seemingly, a change of vanue from Saltzburg to Timelkam which I think is to the south west of Salzburg, there is no confirmation of this change from the Personal web site however.

As more of us receive copies of "A Mexico Con Amor" I'd like to see more comment about it on the notice board and also remember to go to Amazon and help increase its "star rating" there. As always if you live in an area with Spanish speaking radio stations call them and get some air play!...........Seven weeks and counting :)

17th October 2004: Click here
here and here to read interviews José gave at the beginning of his current Latin American tour.

If you are going to the Austrian gigs check the diary page where I have added information on both Timelkam and another gig in Vienna.

If you live in the New York area read about José's forthcoming Thanksgiving appearance on the news page of his Personal web site!

24th October 2004: Amazon customers have given "A Mexico Con Amor" five stars which means a vote of excellence!

I owe Tina a big apology for not crediting her with finding the excellent links I used last week; sorry and thank you, Tina. Alan found this , this and this . My only contribution was to find this ! Does anyone know the Luis Miguel album to which José refers?!

We haven't got a review of "A Mexico Con Amor" on the Seen and Heard Page; I could do one myself but this is supposed to be a fan based site so anyone out there going to try? :)

30th October 2004: Not much news this week but Nenad sent me this link from which you can subscribe to watch the video made for "Cien Anos" it costs $10 to subscribe and the subscription page is all in Spanish which I found too difficult to follow!

Soooooooo four weeks tomorrow many of us will be in London; I am going, for one night only, on 29th November. I hope I get to meet some of the unknowns out there who are contributing to this site having achieved 5000 hits this year alone! CYA there.

7th November 2004: First and most important! Fil posted on the notice board about a poll being run by Univision in which people are being asked to vote for "Cien Anos". Please go here and vote for José. As always Fil is THE BEST at finding things like this and they do all add up and make a difference to José.

Tina found this site where she found the video of "Cien Anos" I could not find it; must be me :)

I have found this gig which I can't put on the Diary page as I don't know where "Redwood" is PLEASE someone tell me! The link may take you to a registration page but the first time I used it I got the article about the concert.

14th November 2004: Jose begins his biggest European tour for some time in two weeks but there is little news about it. There is however, this article about tonight's gig in Oxnard. It is one of those irritating sites where you have to go through a free registrastion process.

21st November 2004: Fil has just posted information about the Milan gigs on the noticeboard - it is part of a thread from a few weeks ago about Milan and so appears some way down the page.

I know the big advert which now appears on the side of this page is irritating but I cannot do anything about it!

José IS coming to Europe as the flags suggest; again, I can only reflect sadness at the lack of news at this time. I won't do a normal update next Sunday (unless I have something big to say) BUT look out for the first review on José's European tour on Tuesday evening my time :).

1st December 2004: OK I am a day late I was too hung over with excitement to do the update yesterday! click here to read my review of the first night at Jazz Cafe and PLEASE if you see José in the next couple of weeks write something to add to that page!.....Did you know that José just celebrated the 50th anniversary of his first public appearance, at El Teatro De Puerto Rico?

I'll add the play list to the review tomorrow

2nd December 2004: I have just added a play list and also heard today that last night's concert was totally sold out. Tonight José has a night off before three more nights at Jazz Cafe.

By the way there MAY be news of an ENGLISH LANGUAGE album soon

5th December 2004: Fans on the East Coast of the USA need to look out for a Banco Popular Special on Telemundo TONIGHT entitled "Christmas in My Pais" it has more than twenty latin stars celebrating Christmas and José performs two songs. The CD and DVD are available from tomorrow.

Well, the week at Jazz Cafe draws to a close and José and the band will leave for Vienna in the knowledge that they played to very full houses every night and the tickets were sold out on at least three occasions. This is the equivalent of selling enough tickets to fill Carnegie Hall twice over :). It was also good to hear José on BBC National Radio last night. He sounded in good form still and played "Feliz Navidad". There was also an interview on a local station in London which I did not hear, more news of this if I have any.

Fil found these links to an interview and this BBC Poll.

And lastly, in a week so full "the icing on the cake" is the new "Official Site" I think we should all congratuate those behind it on their efforts this far and wish them well with this work

19th December 2004: After two weeks of being laid low with a severe virus I am back! I am aware that an awful lot has happened in that time and regret the timing of the bug hitting me:) Anyway! click here for a nice story about José's charity work.

There have been numerous references on Google to Feliz Navidad proving how popular this Feliciano composition is.

The sad news for Europeans is that José left our shores two days ago and he and the band will perform in Florida tonight before heading home. I have updated the special page I made for the European tour so go there to read comments from Alan and Marie Rose and some news of the Italian gigs.

In the last of the European concerts José played John Lennon's "Imagine", by way of introduction he asked people to pray for a peaceful new year in which the hungry would be fed, the naked clothed and people would live without fear, able to exercise freedom of speech. A good thought for a new year so dream, think, meditate or pray, what ever your personal value system calls it and have a FELIZ NAVIDAD with hopes of a new year in the world José described :)!
