4th January 2009: HAPPY NEW YEAR! Not much news but Phil is going to Thursday's gig and will write some thing for us so we will know how José kicks off the new year.

Alan found this link to a new BBC radio programme called Viva Latino which sounds interesting in itself, although this article does not mention José. Might be worth e mailing them to make sure he is included!

11th January 2009: It seems the first gig in 2009 went well and we have this from Phil

Well, this was one of the best shows I've seen. Jose and the band were in great shape. Two things stood out; Jose revealed that he is recording his first Spanish Rock Album. Also, towards the end of the show, he got off his stool and played on a giant Base-fiddle, singing the song "Fever". It was awesome to watch and a beautiful version of this song. Here's the playlist for the sold out show:-

1/Oye guitarra mia
2/Crazy Heart
3/Billie Jean
4/Lo que yo tuve contigo
5/It's alright mama
6/Rain
7/Bamboleo
8/Knocking on heaven's door
9/Lay down Sally
10/Oye como va12/Che Sera
13/I got a woman
14/Porque te tengo olvidar
15/Malaguena
16/Light my fire
17/Fever (on Base-Fiddle)
18/You were always on my mind
19/Feliz Navidad.

I am trying to find out more about the "bass fiddle" and I assume the Spanish "rock album" will be in the style of "Soundtrax of My Life" as I know José has been working on such a project.......but I don't know! It seems there will be at least two new albums this year with "Genius 2" (hopefully) due in May.

18th January 2009: Apparantly the "giant fiddle" is called an upright bass José played a solo on it for the first time at Chumash Casino and, I am told, it was a "show stopper"; hope he does it again and we get to see it on Youtube :)

In the meantime I liked this offering from the Lehman Center gig . Mediamanny has been posting segments periodically for a while so check what else is there. I can't help wondering, if you are Mediamanny, would you like to write something about the gig?

I have seen some references to José appearing at a gala in Washington today as part of the inauguration celebrations, I understand that this information is inaccurate.

25th January 2009: I found this gig which I have not seen listed elsewhere.

1st February 2009: It seems that José and his band appeared at a festival in Chile earlier this week. Click here , here and here to see them - thanks to Tina for sending me the links, I had not found the last one from Chilean TV.

8th February 2009: There are more clips from José's appearance at the Olmue Festival in Chile here and here - thank you to Tina for sending them to me.

9th February 2009: JOSÉ WON HIS 8TH GRAMMY YESTERDAY WHEN "SENOR BACHATA" WAS AWARDED THE NARAS AWARD FOR BEST TROPICAL LATIN ALBUM :)

15th February 2009: It has been a pretty good week to be a Feliciano fan hasn't it? For reactions to José's 8th Grammy go to his personal website.

I liked this version of "Verde" which appears on José's "Americano" album.

22nd February 2009: Alan found a very old video of José which I had not seen before - Four Fingers .

23rd February 2009: Most people know I was ill last year and am still recovering. During this time I have developed a passion for tennis (as a spectator!) and my favourite player is Rafael Nadal. On a fan site devoted to him ( Vamos Brigade) I just read:-

"Name me another fan site where respect and fun are the rule rather than the exception. Where rude language is not tolerated.....Where creativity reigns and friendships blossom. Where you become friends with fans from England to Macedonia, Spain to Germany, the Philippines to Ireland, India to Brazil.......Yes indeed, its an AMAZING EXPERIENCE."

Isn't that so true of "us" and of José's personal site?

1st March 2009: Sylvia found these photos of the Chumash Casino concert which took place in January. Phil's review of the concert appears above.

I found this article about a gig on 13th March in Puerto Rico.

I am also told that work on the "Genius#2" album is going very well, the album will show case a range of styles and thus highlight José's versatility; I think we are in for a real treat :)

8th March 2009: On Friday José is appearing at the Coliseo José Miguel Agrelot the biggest indoor concert venue in Puerto Rico. Use this link to get more information, and, if you go to the gig, tell us about it.

15th March 2009: It seems José did a guest appearanace with Santana at a gig in Puerto Rico.

Tina and Alan have pointed out that a DVD of a Feliciano concert in Paris is being released on 27th April.

Although I have given a link to it I would make the following points. (1) We don't know if it is "official" and if José and the band will be paid for it. (2) It seems it will only play on European DVD players. (3) Although sold by reputable online suppliers we do not know what the quality is like. In other words, buyer beware!

22nd March 2009: I think I may have been a bit negative about the new DVD last week! It seems that the band are aware of its production and, if you shop around, it is available in formats which play in a range of areas, I've also found a range of prices!

29th March 2009: Sylvia sent me this link to a search , on the Slovakian version of Google, for pictures of José. There are pictures I had not seen before. I wondered if people might want to put similar links to Google in their country on the notice board so we can compare them? It would give me proof that I am not talking to myself if nothing else :)

12th April 2009: Earlier this week I was contacted by the UK distributors of the "Paris Concert" DVD with a copy of their press release which appears here . I have pointed out to them that José has 8 Grammys and that this is not his first DVD.

I have now received, from them, a "review copy" of the DVD and am in the privileged position of being amongst the first to see this FANTASTIC product. Although it is not his first DVD it is the first to include all the music from a live show (someone correct me if that is wrong but I don't think "Legend in Concert was on DVD, was it?).

It was filmed on 5th August 2008 and includes several tracks never recorded before. To me it is an evocation of gigs at Jazz Cafe and Feliciano fans everywhere will love it. I will write a full review in the next couple of days, so watch this space!

Weinerworld are going to run a couple of competitions with the DVD and the Blue Ray edition as prizes and I will give links to these when they appear.

Happy Easter

14th April 2009: The competion to win a copy of the new DVD is now up and running on the Weinerworld site so click here for a chance to win this brilliant reproduction of an excellent gig. When you get to the page click on the word grid to open it in a new window

19th April 2009: Unfortunatey I have not had time to complete me review of the DVD but remember to enter the competition by 25th April if you want to win this briliant reproduction of a great gig.

26th April 2009: Click here to visit José's new official site.

The DVD competition has now closed so it is too late to enter if you have not done so.

I like this video although I know nothing about it.

3rd May 2009: I enjoyed this clip from a gig at Jazz Café it brings back happy memories!

I need your help, this site is currently on Yahoo Geocities and Yahoo have announced that they are closing Geocities by the end of this year. This will remove this site, in its current form, from cyber space. I have put a lot into this site over almost ten years and I don't want to lose it so any suggestions? At present I don't know what to do. I always say this is a fan based site and I can't sort this out on my own. HELP

10th May 2009: Go to the calendar page on José's personal site! It seems José will be in Europe for much of October. The details are to be confirmed but it looks good :).

24th May 2009: José appeared at the Epcot Centre last weekend. This video was posted, on Youtube by Jonathan Feliciano, Jonathan and Michael performed with José at Epcot.

31st May 2009: This seems to suggest that José will be in Istanbul in August.

There are some nice photos of José at Epcot on the Fan's Forum section of his web site.

7th June 2009: Sylvia found this video which I love but I am not sure about its origins. José now has an official page on Myspace visit his personal website for details.

14th June 2009; Sylvia found this interesting interview from about three years ago.

If anyone is in New York and sees José in the Puerto Rico day parade tell us about it.

19th June 2009: José is appearing at Jazz Café on October 27th and 28th :)

28th June; There is a statement, by José, about the death of Michael Jackson, on his personal site.

click here and here for video of José's performance during the Puerto Rico day parade in New York.

12th July 2009: Sylvia found this video from a concert in San Antonio in 1974. There are some other clips on the menu on the right of the screen.

19th July 2009: I thought I had found two gigs in Turkey (13th and 14th August) but when I returned to the page to post the link my computer's security software said the site was fraudulant! The gigs are not on José's official site so buyer beware. I know there are fans in Turkey so if anyone knows anything let me know.

22nd July 2009: I am reliably informed that the gigs in Turkey are genuine, despite my computer's concerns :). I mentioned the one in Istanbul above, the second is in Bodrum . It looks like a great venue.

26th July 2009: Tina found news that José is appearing in Austria on 28th and 29th August. I will ask Tina and Sylvia to post on the message board as they get more information as they speak German.

2nd August 2009; Phil sent the following review of the Merced County Fair concert:-

Jose and the band seemed rested, and they sounded great. Jose announced that a new "The genius 2" CD, produced by Bob Conti, is coming out in a few weeks, and will be available online for purchase.
He played 1h, 45 minutes in a packed out door arena after a 104 degrees hot summer day. The play list was Oye Guitarra Mia, Believe me when I tell You ( a brand new song that will be on the Genius 2 CD, a beautiful song,,), Billie Jean, Porque te Tengo Olvidar, It's all right Mama, Bamboleo, If you don't know me by now, Superstition, Oye Como Va, Nuestro Amor, I got a Woman, Bolero Medley, California Dreamin', Malaguena, Light My Fire, You were Always on my Mind, What'd I Say. Phil also sent me a photo which I will post later

Sylvia found this video of the event.

There are several new gigs on the calendar on José's personal site including more dates at Jazz Cafe and two in Holland. Tina has posted some information about the Austrian concert on the notice board.

10th August 2009; I've uploaded Phil's photo of Jose at Merced County Fair, go to the Pictures page to see it.

16th August 2009: We all know that José is versatile but this clip from Turkish TV still has the WOW factor! , anyone see either of the Turkish gigs?

23rd August 2009: José and the band have returned to the USA after performing in Turkey and played with the San Diego Symphony on Friday, I found this review . José and the band are off to Austria before the end of the month.

6th September 2009: A big THANK YOU to Tina who found two videos of José in Austria. Tina also found this interview and two pages of photos

I am sure that everyone has been intrigued by the letters "TBA" on many days of José's calendar over the past few weeks, it looked as if there would be more European gigs but WHERE? The answers are now revealed with gigs in Belgium, Poland, Prague and Spain. There is also another date in England, this sees José returning to the Sage Centre in Gateshead. I haven't seen José in a "proper" theatre since I went to Carnegie Hall nine years ago so I am forsaking Jazz Cafe and heading north east not south this time :).

Last but not least, it is José's birthday next week and I think it would be great if people could use the "Fans' Forum" on his Personal Site to leave messages marking the occassion, it is a much under used resource so let's get it going!

13th September 2009: Sylvia sent this report on the Vienna gig.

José's appearance was at 22.15 but I was there at 17.30 as the entrance was free and therefore I wanted to be sure to get a place. At the beginning we had a little rain but as the sun went down the rain stopped and it was a wonderful mild summer night. The three other acts - Coshiva - Figure In Frame - Supermax - that were playing before him were quite good but the star was José. There were not too many people there for the first acts so I get right in front of the podium. As the time of José's appearance got nearer the main square of the city got more and more packed with people.

José started with Ain't No Sunshine, then switched to his version of "Billie Jean" in memory of Micheal Jackson. Then he played a brand new composition of his own followed by "Lo Que Yo Tuve Contigo" and an instrumental I had never heard before. He played a few songs together with his sons Michael and Jonathan - That's Alright Mama, Knocking on Heavens Door. Then there were "Que Sera" and many others.

When he seemed to have finished, it was certain that he would play the song which is something like the unofficial anthem of the capital of Austria. With "Sound of Vienna". José seemed to be in a good mood enjoying the evening. The whole place screamed for more but unfortunately as the anouncer said it was midnight and as the concert was in the middle of the city they were not allowed to play after midnight. I got home after 2 o'clock in the morning.

I found out that there was another charity concert the next day, in Vienna at the Kahlenberg, but it was impossible to get tickets for this one.

Thank you Sylvia, Nenad, who lives in Croatia, sent me some photos of the gig and Sylvia is also going to send some. I will make a special page of these photos later in the week.

I think I know what I am going to do to preserve this site after geocities closes, watch this space!

4th October 2009: have known for a while that Geocities free site building service was closing in October and this site will disappear on 26th October. I am in the process of moving to Geocities fee paying web hosting but this is taking time. My life is complicated at present as I am going into hospital for minor surgery on Tuesday and may be away for a week or so. As time is running out I decided to start using the new "News Page" so regular visitors can book mark it. It is not as I would wish and some of the links don't work but please be patient with me and I will get it going as soon as I can. Click here for today's update
