Feliciano Fiesta News Page
NEWS 2003

If you enjoy this site The Fantastic Feliciano Site is another great place to visit.

For the latest update on 28th December 2003 go to the bottom of this page.

January 1st 2003. Happy New Year to everyone, and hope you had a wonderful Christmas. In the last posting the article on José touched on his version of “The Star Spangled Banner”. For an in depth article on this particular subject click here

January 5th 2003. José is due to appear at a special "Black Tie" gala evening at the DCOTA [Design centre of the Americas] in Florida on Saturday March 1st according to their web site. For details click here and scroll down the page to the March 1st listing.

January 12th 2003. José has another Florida concert coming up on April 25th. click here for details.

January 19th 2003. The link here relates to an amusing situation José found himself in around thirty years ago in Miami. You'll need to scroll down this linked page past half way to just below where you see a reference to the Gaslight Coffeehouse in bold print.

26th January 2003: I'm back! It was wonderful to come back and see that interest in José had been kept going so well by Alan. I think this site now ranks with the best in bringing news of what he is doing and when! Of Alan's updates my thoughts were:-

Sooooooo José is still talking as if the English album will come out.....why is José appearing with Sandoval and not the other way round? Anyone who saw them both in New York will be in no doubt as to the identity of the star! I'm also very proud that this site has been able to supplement the official tour guide and bring news of additional gigs!

On my travels I met several Feliciano fans and gained impressions of how José is viewed in the countries I visited; more on this next week.

Lastly; I intend to update the quiz next week but it seems few people know the answer this time! I can't offer prizes but I will "crown" the first person to mail me the right answer as Trivia king of the month!

1st February 2003: Feliciano fans living in Colorado should CLICK HERE NOW and go to see José next Saturday!

16th February 2003: I do try to do an update every week end but last week end I was ill as was my mother! Over the last two weeks José has been busy with gigs in Denver and more recently two in Connecticut to celebrate St Valentine's Day.

This web site has now been up and running for two years, we get at least twenty hits a week BUT you are all so quiet! Alan and I struggle to find as much info as we can but we get no feed back. PLEASE use the notice board or contact us to tell us what you think; it is like talking to ourselves on this side of cyber space.

23RD February 2003: The big news this week is that José's personal web site is being "renovated" and will be re launched with many new features. I always liked www.josefeliciano.com and very much welcome this development. There is a button to send a message asking to be added to a mailing list so you are informed of developments click here to go the the personal web site and join the mailing list

2nd March 2003: Little news this week; Alan reminded me that José was performing in a "black tie" event in aid of mental health charities last night......any body in Florida see him there?

5th March 2003: Go to the Seen and Heard Page to read a new review of a classic album to commemorate the thirthieth anniversay of its recording and watch out for more new pages celebrating the 1973 world tour.

7th March 2003: Go to José's Personal Website for the news we have all been hoping for for soooooo long........a new recording! José is asking people to ring radio stations and request it. Outside of the USA this is difficult because they probably won't have it so you might have to persuade them to get it first!

9th March 2003: As you may have gathered I am celebrating Josés World Tour thirty years ago! Go to the Seen and Heard Page to read Alan's comments on the first time he saw José in concert. I've also moved some comments from this page to that page.

16th March 2003: José's personal web site has a note from Carlos Rodriguez about José's participation in a recent tribute concert for Cuban diva Celia Cruz, to read more about that event click here
I was given a gift this week! a video of a concert José did in Copenhagen in 1973 (Thanks Bjarne :) It is called "Ole´ José" and is brilliant.
Personally I don't use Ebay but Alan tells me that a copy of "Alive Alive O" went for £28 this week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If any one has heard the new single please tell us about it! And if there are any Aussies with information on the forthcoming Australian tour which they wish to share you know where we are!.

21st March 2003: Just found this link which may be useful to Australians wishing to see José when he visits Sydney, as always ring the venue and check it out; more info as we find it!

30th March 2003: Austalian fans need to check out this site which says José will perform in Burswood. There seems some confusion over the date so just check with the venue! I also found what I think was a reference to "Senor Bolero 2" being released in Australia on 5th June!!!!!! I could not open the page however so put "Jose Feliciano Australian concert tour" into Google and see what you think. If it is coming out in Australia then it suggest to me that we might expect an earlier release date in the US and therefore availability on line sometime soon.

6th April 2003: I KNOW the link on Google disappeared but it seems I was right; José's personal web site says that the release date in the US is 5th May!!!!! Sadly the Polish gig has been postponed because of the war in Iraq. I feel that José's example can, and does, make a difference to other disabled people and I really hope this is rearranged. I've removed some earlier news stories to make this page more user friendly I will put them on a new page with a link from here later.

13th April 2003: SOOOOOOOOO in three weeks the dream is realised! A new Feliciano CD will be on sale! "Senor Bolero 2" is available for pre release orders NOW at CDNOW! Filippo found an interview in which José talks about the new album go here to read it.

This will be my last update until 3rd May but there is a lot going on so look out for Alan's updates in my absence..and Happy Easter!

4th May 2003: Okay! we had a technical problem.....the ******** wouldn't work for Alan so sorry there were no updates for two weeks!

I return feeling extremely excited about "Senor Bolero 2"; Depite the total lack of official hype and excitement I think this is cause for celebration and, like everyone else I hope this, the first new album for almost five years, will begin a process which sees José back in the position we want him to be in. Watch out for more updates than usual over the next few days (technical gremlins permitting of course!)

I am especially pleased that the only previously recorded song on the album was voted the best Spanish recording by visitors to this site.

Today I can only say send your hopes, good wishes, prayers in his directions so he feels the good vibes from us! Today I am remembering the person I met at Jazz Cafe not the irritations of being a Feliciano fan. José deserves our support.

Talking of frustration......did anyone else realise that the "Australian tour" included at least one gig in New Zealand?! click here to read about it.

8th May 2003: Sooooooo the new Album IS out! Regular contributor to this site Carlos Rodriguez has sent the following review:
Dear Janet,
I just bought Jose's new album and it is wonderful. He sounds better than ever and the CD is very romantic. My favorite song is "Un Ciego No Vive En La Oscuridad", it is a beautiful and deeply emtional song in which Jose sings that no blind person has to live in darkness. Who better than him to sing about the subject I ask. I predict that this album is going to go thru the roof in album sales and will earn Jose another Platinum album award to his already 50+ albums. Best wishes, Carlos

11th May 2003: The long awaited over haul of José's personal web site is complete! visit using the link on my home page and see what you think. Obviously I'm pleased to see a proper listing of the Austalian and New Zealand gigs and intrigued by the ntion of a European tour....anyone know anything? I am much frustrated by the fact that I have not yet received my copy of "Senor Bolero2" so I can't camment on it yet.

19TH May 2003: I still haven't received "Senor Bolero 2"!" However, I hear that José mentioned the Eurpean tour on American TV and said he'd be visiting Greece, Austria, Spain, Italy and other places. A friend heard from someone in New Zealand that the gig thre has been well advertised and that José was seen on TV THERE!.

25th May 2003: I finally received "Senor Bolero 2" on Friday and think it is brilliant! Further more, many other people must agree because last week it was at number 2 in the Billboard Latin Charts!

It slipped a bit this week; sooooooooo it is vital that those "strange" people out there who haven't bought it yet get to hear it.

José posted a message on his own web site asking people to call radio stations and request it. This seems important at this stage......the more air play it gets the more people will hear it and like it enough to go and buy it (well how could they not!).

1st June 2003: I've found this interview which José gave before leaving for Australia and also this interview which he gave in 2000 when he was in Australia last. Finally congratualtions to Bjarne Jenson and his partner Jette who are getting married next Saturday!

8th June 2003: No news from down under but it is encouraging that "Senor Bolero 2" has risen in the Billboard charts this week and this rise, perhaps, emphasises the need for us to demand air play to spread the word.

I found some information on the gig on Kufstein but I won't put a link because it was in German and translated badly! The concert is in an open air arena in a castle and sounds phenomenal. Anyone wishing to go may need to check the location however because my information is that Kufstein is in Austria not Germany as reported by José's personal web site!

10TH June 2003: Alan found this review of one of the Australian concerts in which José mentions his new ENGLISH album "The Soundtrack of My Life" which includes "I Faced the Music" and "She's in My Blood" new songs which some of us have heard, and enjoyed in live performance.

I also found an interview José gave to an Australian reporter - nice photo too!

11th June 2003: I just found this radio interview which requires real player.

15th June 2003: I've read that José will be appearing with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra in November.

Regular visitors to this site will be aware that I have a "co web master" Alan Wilson. Alan and I have repeatedly wondered WHY visitors are so quiet!

In the past three months we have had 750 hits about half of whom were repeat visitors who had book marked this page. So some one must like us!

However no one uses the guest book or notice board. We find this even sadder and stranger now there are no interactive pages on José's personal web site.

What do you think of "Senor Bolero 2"? Have you seen José in Australia? Are you going to see him in Austria and want to meet up with other fans..........tell us about it. To make it easier I have added links to both pages at the bottom of this one.

22nd June 2003. Hi. It’s Alan here, sitting in for Janet today as she’s having problems with her internet connection. The best news I have to convey today is that Senor Bolero 2 is continuing to climb back up the Billboard Latin Chart and now stands at number 11. Also you can read some comments on the album by scrolling down the page of this link .
Don’t forget we would love to here whatever comments, news or anything you have to say, so please use the notice board or guest book links below or use the link below to contact us direct.

June 29th 2003: I'm Back! Thanks Alan, I posted a review on the CDUniverse Site Alan found last week, use his link to read it and post your own comments.

I hope everyone has heard the radio interview I posted a few weeks ago.....I only heard it this week but I thought José sounded in great form, very well, and very confident traits which I hear in "Senor Bolero 2". In the interview José makes some controversial comments about the war with Iraq; as fans do you agree or disagree? Post you comments on the notice board. Talking of "SB2" I found this on the Universal Latino Site if any one would like to translate I would be very grateful!

For a long time I have been struggling to think of yet another trivia question for this site and I have finally run out! Unless I hear that people do what this feature to continue and someone (anyone!) can think of some questions (mail us or use the notice board) there will be no new question in July. I intend to replace that page with a new feature so watch this space.

Lastly fans in Knoxville need to click here for news of a gig in Knoxville next year.

July 5th 2003: I am a day early beacause I have found some information which fills some of the very large gap on José's tour guide! He is in Hong Kong in August.

6th July 2003: I DID receive some trivia questions but they were not in a format which I could use; so click on the trivia button to see some interesting facts about José......could call it infrequently asked questions :)

13th July 2003: No new news this week I am afraid but we have found the following interviews both from Puerto Rico, the first appeared in Music of Puerto Rico the second in The Puerto Rico Herald in May but has been copied from an Australian publication......I don't know what the guy is talking about though José knows a lot about history!.

Carlos Rodriguez continues to be a good supporter of this site not least by supplying some new trivia questions which will appear soon! Carlos wrote to Alan about the huge range of Feliciano material available at Music Stack . Please note however neither of the web masters of this site have ever bought from them so do so at your own risk!

20th July 2003: On May 19th I wrote that someone had reportedly heard José on TV in the USA talking about an extensive tour of Europe; at that time Europe was featured on the tour guide on his personal web site and, it seemed, such a tour was possible.

In the event he visited Austria only. I am sorry if the hopes of European fans were raised by my comment. At the time I believed the story was true.

I think that sometimes people think Alan and I have "inside knowledge", perhaps this proves that we only know what we are told (or more often) find after many hours using search engines.

I found this link to a gig last year in Dominican Republic Interesting that his return to that island after so long was for a charity do!

27th July 2003: A few weeks ago we reported that José had participated in a tribute to Celia Cruz. Sadly, Celia Cruz died lat week but I don't know if José was amongst the many celbrities at her funeral.

I've read that José's forth coming concert in Hong Kong will be a very special event as he is the first major performer to go to Hong Kong after the Sars out break.

I was aware that, in 2001 José was awarded an honorary degree from Sacred Heart University Click Here to read about it.

2nd August 2003: We have recieved this press release about the Hong Kong Concert; if anyone out there goes to it PLEASE let us know!

8th August 2003: Click here to read about a concert José did in New York on 31st July and here to read about an earlier concert in Panama; the page is supposed to translate into English but I could not get it to do so! However the main points are fairly obvious.

12th August 2003: STOP PRESS :) I usually do updates on Sundays but this is too good to save! On 1st August José was nominated for the post of honorary ambassador to the United Nations! Obviously we wish him congratulations and hopes someone passes our message to him! Remember you read it here first :)

18th August 2003. Here and here are two other links relating to José's award of Honorary Ambassador for Cultural Understanding.

31st August 2003: I don't know if anyone realised but I haven't been on line for nearly three weeks (this is Janet by the way!). My supposedly new computer caused nothing but trouble and finally "died". Last week I bought a computer which is new and feel back on track. Part of the trauma of all of this is that I have lost the e mail addresses of many people I value so please gt in touch if you haven't heard from me lately!.

Back to José! Monday of next week is his birthday sooooooo what are we going to do to celebrate? On several occassions I have gathered messages together for him this year I would like to do something different anyone out there got any ideas?

6th September 2003: click here for information about José's first "job" with the International Immigration Foundation at their annual multicultural parade in New York on 14th September.

8th September 2003:
WE WANT TO WISH JOSÉ A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
We think he's had a good year with Jazz Cafe, other European gigs, the Australian tour, a big concert in Hong Kong, SENOR BOLERO 2, The UN appointment.......the list is endless. To crown it, look at these pictures of him co - compering the Latin Grammys with Natalie Cole........Thanks for another year of great music; we love you!

14th September 2003: CLICK HERE to see the poster for the charity event José did last night. We wish him well for his participation in the International Immigrants Foundation multicultural parade today.

click here to see a picture of José visiting Arlington Cemetery.

I hear that José's version of "Golden Lady" is included in a new compilaltion of Stevie Wonder compositions entitled "The Wonder of Stevie" released in October.

Carlos was kind enough to post a comment about he Latin Grammy Ceremony on the Notice Board go there to read it; I can only echo his views about how nice it would be to get more audience participation!

21st September 2003:It seems that a new Feliciano DVD is to be released by Universal; there is a new (small) picture of José on his personal web site.

28TH September 2003: I need some help! In 1999 I compiled a list of José's compositions both songs and instrumentals which appeared on his personal web site until it under went recent changes. My list is no more on that site BUT it seems sad that José's huge talent as a composer is not celebrated so I have re-compiled the list. I know there are ommissions so I want you to help fill in the gaps! click here to see my provisional listing.

4th October 2003: Sooooooo there are people out there! THANK YOU to everyone who responded with suggestions about my list of José's compositions...more in a week or so.

A very large thank you to Carlos for his two "hot news" posts on the notice board. The Amor concert is especially good to hear about as Amor Radio is broadcast over the net so we can all hear the concert, I think! Obviously you have to work the time out for your part of the World!

People Magazine do not have an on line version of the interview so I would be grateful if some one could tell us what it says!

12th October 2003: The "Hot News" on José's personal website is that he is to sing "The Star Spangled Banner" at a baseball game in Miami today. Alan provided this link to a story on the game.

19th October 2003: I have enjoyed visiting José's personal web site this week and would advise anyone reading this to take a look at the news stories there.

It seems that José has had a busy week with an event in Washington to mark the end of Hispanic Heritage Month in Washington DC on Friday; I THINK this was the National Park's "Salute" to Latinos killed in action while serving in the forces, fire brigade etc.

On Saturday he was in Puerto Rico participating in a radio concert event then on to New York where he is appearing on TV tomorrow morning before the biggie.....

His investiture as UN special ambassador for immigration. This site told that news first and wants to congratulate him on the huge honour bestowed on him.

Last but not least, this week has seen huge press coverage of José's rendition of the National Anthem at a baseball game in Miami. There are too many stories for me to offer links to all of them; use Google to find them! I hope this positive reaction has gone some way to repay the wrong done him thirty five years ago at another ball game. José himself has commented on the effect that adverse comment had on his career and on how hurt he was by it.

Over the past few weeks I have been working on my list of José's compositions, I want to move this to the "Living Legend" page soon so would be grateful for any more comments anyone wants to make!

26th October 2003: To read about José's UN investiture click here

When I started this web site almost three years ago I did not realise just how frustrating and complicated the whole thing could be. However, we are slowly beginning to reap the rewards of the effort! Since I added the new hit counter two weeks ago we have had over two hundred visitors AND I have just heard we have been included in The Guitarhoo list of Guitar web sites which means even more people will find us and thus the word is spread a little for José!

2nd November 2003: Christmas is coming :) and it seems José is doing some Christmas gigs. Click here to read about one of them.

9th November 2003: I have found another Christmas gig click here to read about it.

Click Here here to read a nice article about Senor Bolero 2.

Did you know that José has become an author? "Feliz Navidad" a book aimed at children aged 4-8 is available on Amazon and other book sites.....I am told (by my friend Eileen Blass) that it is a lovely volume with José's lyrics presented with some beautiful illustrations buy it to pass the Feliciano magic to a new generation.....or to keep for yourself!

Today is Remberance Sunday here; I've been playing "El Ultimo Adios" another worthy stocking filler.

If anyone gets the new DVD this week let me know.

15th November 2003: I found news of José's inclusion in yet another compilation and click here to read about the programme in which José talked about his blindness with Dr Oz.

23rd November 2003: I am going on holiday on Thursday and won't be back until just before Christmas so I have just put the Feliciano Fiesta Christmas Card on the Home Page hope you use and enjoy it!

Anyone living in St Louis may want to enter this competition

Some people may have seen a Yahoo news alert saying the man who wrote "Sweet Soul Music" has died; thanks to Alan for pointing out it is the composer of a different song by the same name

29th November 2003. Here is a link reporting on a forthcoming appearance by José in Latham Park, Manhattan, on December 7th.

3rd December 2003. Here you will find news of a concert José is doing in January.
Also, from time to time earlier links expire, but I've managed to sort out new ones for 1st and 10th June so if you get chance to look back at them you should be able to do so now.

4th Dec 2003. José is appearing on some North and South American cable TV stations tomorrow, 5th Dec, with Barry Manilow. For details look here.

10th Dec 2003 . Find news of a February 2004 gig by José here .

Don't forget, please let us know via the links below if you've seen José recently in concert or on TV. We would all like you to share it with this web site.

21st December 2003: I'm back! Thanks as always to Alan for coming up with so much while I was away. I have found nothing new to report so assume José is home for Christmas and I am sure that everyone who has visited this site would like to wish him Feliz Navidad!

You may notice a new button on this page; it leads to a new (or at least ammended feature) I have long felt that the notice board was a valuable but under used page. We now have a joint forum shared with the Fantastic Feliciano site - with a wonderfully alliterative name to reflect this! Please use it......might be a good place to pass on Christmas greetings to other fans!

Look out for our review of 2003 next week and a new News Page to start 2004 because I am sure that José will achieve enough next year for it to become very full. Feliz Navidad to all of you from Alan and Janet!

28th December 2003: CLICK HERE OUR REVIEW OF 2003. Has any one noticed that significant changes have been made to the "Management Page" of José's Personal Web Site? We don't know what this means but will bring you news as we have it.
