The First Time We Saw and Heard José

Some dates and events will always be etched in our minds.   One was when we heard José's voice singing "Light My Fire" over a speaker in a Famous Barr department store in St. Louis, Missouri in August 1968.   We heard it and were overwhelmed....it was like nothing we had ever heard before.   We ran to the store clerk and asked who he was and could we buy the record!   That was the beginning of our long time passion for the music of José!

Another date that will never be forgotten was our first Feliciano concert that happened while we were living in Boston.   The place, Harvard Stadium, the date, July 29, 1970.  To buy a memorabilia ticket from this concert today it would cost you about $150.00, as this concert series was one of the most renown during the 60'&70s....the Schaefer Music Festivals which started in NYC and were extended to Boston in 1970.

Here is some information about the event with the list of outstanding talent that performed there:

Looking at this list of remarkable entertainers, it is sad to realize several of these people are no longer with us.

It was an awesome evening for us. We can still remember the sounds and smells of the night (people were smoking "SOMETHING".   The crowd was immense -- many young people, dressed very casually on a warm summer night.

José was bantering with the audience.   We couldn't get over his singing, guitarmanship, sense of humour, and ability to pull the audience into his show, even in such a large setting.   There was a lot of laughing and rounds of applause.   José sang all of his hits of the time including California Dreamin', And I Love Her, Light My Fire, Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying and many more.   José's performance was and (still is) unique and different from any other entertainer anywhere!

We were totally enthralled and very happy and really enjoyed the show.   As always, José far exceeded any expectations we had for the evening.   It was wonderful....Just one of many memories of José that we will always treasure.
