In 1989 José attended the Eagle awards in Los Angeles and was introduced to theatrical producer Charles Smith who was beginning work on a new musical production of Ray Bradbury's short story My Wonderful Ice Cream Suit.This chance meeting resulted in an eighteen month collaboration between José and Smith during which José wrote the music for the whole project and co-wrote the lyrics for the twelve songs with Susan.
