| "Why is it taking you so damn long to chop carrots? What are you doing in here woman?" asked Niko as he entered the kitchen, glass of red wine in his hand. His abrupt voice brought Korina out of her quiet recollection of their past and she returned back to the chore of preparing dinner. "Just got sidetracked." she replied. She could sense he was near. The intoxicating aroma of his cologne teased her olfactory senses. When she tried taking a step back, she realized she was correct, her back brushing up against his broad chest. "Are you scared?" he whispered into her ear. She turned, waving the large knife as she spoke. He took a few steps backwards for safety reasons. "Well let's see: your demented father is back from the dead and he wants to terroize everyone who helped murder him sixteen years ago. What's there to be scared of?" He laughed nonchalantly and set his glass down on the counter. "First of all will you stop waving that thing around like a mad woman. You look just as crazy as your brother." suggested Niko. "Niko, this is serious." "Are you regretting ever meeting me yet?" "No, I don't regret it. I won't let anything happen to you." "Hmm, I sense a bit of resentment in your voice dear." Niko pointed out. She dumped the chopped carrots in the soup and finished his glass of wine. Raindrops skated down the kitchen window as thunder roared overhead, pounding over them in flashing echoes. She grew quiet as the warming alcohol slowly slid down her throat. She swallowed the last drop and rolled her eyes at the raining sky. It was all a joke to him. All that she ever did for him obviously didn't mean anything. "A thank you every once in awhile would be nice, but I'm sure that's beneath you, right?" He cocked on eyebrow as he grabbed the emptied glass from her tight grasp. She folded her arms, sensing he was about to challenge her with a fight. "So now we're getting somewhere. Is that what this is all about? Do you want something from me Korina?" he asked teasingly. She didn't find the conversation amusing at all and all she wanted from him at the moment was to stop pushing the damn issue. Sighing heavily, she closed the curtains in the window. "Niko, just drop it. Where's the Merlot?" He caught her by her slender arm before she could try to escape. "Or maybe it'll be better if I take you to the bedroom, strip you down and fuck you till you can't walk anymore. How's that for a thank you?" She wriggled free from his grip and decided to play along. "Now you're speaking my language. It would be good to see what all these women keep running to you for. Maybe I can finally see why that ex-wife of yours hung around for so long. God knows it wasn't for your chiper personality or your loving nature, right Niko?" Their gazes locked and she suddenly felt as if she had said the wrong thing. Advancing towards her, he pinned her body against the counter, dipping his head to speak in her ear. Her heart began to do cartwheels. "Oh trust me. If I take you into that bedroom you'll get addicted to my dick. That I do know." he whispered, his hand slidding under her shirt and caressing the warm flesh of her abdomen. He began nibbling at her neck, sparking a storm of hunger and need within her. "But unfortunately I don't mix business and pleasure and you are my employee aren't you." he stated, pulling away from her, leaving her breathless and aching for more. You bastard, she thought to herself. He could be so cold and cruel like his father at times. He was a self-centered tease and she could have slapped him for what he had just done. He grabbed one of the brownies that was cooling in the tray and leaned back, a satisfied quirk on his lips. "I knew it was a mistake being your assistant manager. I'll just have to quit. Will that solve that problem?" He plucked one of the walnut pieces off the chunk of chocolate and traced the outline of her thin lips with its tip. She laughed and with her mouth opened, he seized the opportunity by placing the nut between her palates. "Is that what you really want form me, Korina?" She shot him a sheepish grin and decided to bail. "Can you smell that soup? Mmmm. I think it's just about ready." exclaimed Korina, lifting the lid of the crock pot and inhaling the rich flavor of the vegetables and seasonings. "Have you ever wondered why I've never tried to get you into bed in all the years I've known you?" Her thoughts flipped flopped as she gradually turned around to face him again. She raised one speculative eyebrow. "I suppose I'm not your type or you're just not attracted to me. Remind me again, why are we having this conversation?" "Cause I'm starting to get the impression you think I don't care about you." Niko responded. "I never said that. Just because you won't fuck me doesn't neccessarily mean you don't care for me." she said, her voice slightly raised. "I'll fuck you, but I know that's not what you want." She shook her head, puzzled. "Wait. What's going on now? Niko, my head can't take mind games tonight. Maybe some other time sweety." she said, massaging her temple with her index and middle finger. He slowly glided her hand down to her side and cupped her face. "Korina, I want to do more than have sex with you; I want to make..." His seductive murmur was interrupted by another voice in his head. She watched him grow quiet and motionless as if he was listening for something in the the wind. "What's the matter?" asked Korina softly. "It's Teresa. She said Cameron brought Morgan into the hospital. I have to go." "Was it Dorian?" she shouted as she rushed behind him. "Something weird went down at the Frat House. It's got Dorian written all over it and stop right there. Where the hell do you think you're going?" he questioned her. "Morgan's like a son to me. I'm coming with you." she answered. "Like hell you are. You're keeping your ass right here. Do you understand me?" She flashed him a defiant look and folded her arms. "And why not?" "Ok let's think about this one dear. The whole point of me casting a protection spell over the house and asking you to sleep here was to hmm let's think-- PROTECT YOU. Besides, I'm not having you and Ari bickering all night like two cackling hens. Stay here and I'll call when I get there." He didn't stay to hear her response to his command. He brushed a quick kiss across her lips and dashed out the door. |
