White Garments and Hair like Wool
Lightning, and the Heaven of Crystal and Fire
The White Garments of the Pure,
and of the Retinue of Deity
Exists in both "Revelations" and the Book of Enoch.
John alludes not only to the white garments of the elect in the
Book
of Enoch,
but to the garments of the Essenes as well.
The Essenes were the Pure Remnant
of the original Enochian Tradition that Permeated Original Judaism.
Elders in both works are described as having a Head of Hair like
Wool.
We may see the white garment imagery as allying "Revelations" with not only the Book of Enoch, but also with the Essenes, who wore white garments, who were indisputably against the animal sacrifices, and who practiced communalism, or egalitarianism, the loving of one's neighbor as one's self, in communities in which all alike, female and male, received the same type of garments, the same food, and the same type of dwelling. In the chapter on the Essenes in this volume it is explained how all the variants of the name Essene point to Shiva. Essene is based on the name Jesse or Yishay in ancient Hebrew, which is simply the Hebrew transliteration of Isa, a name of Shiva. Jesseans, a version of Essenes, stems from the same root. Two of Shiva's other names, Isana and Asani, may both be seen as transliterations of Essene. Esaoi is also based on Isa. Osseans refers to Osseo, also one of the names of Shiva. In the case of the true Judeo/Christian tradition, all paths lead to Shiva.
In "Revelations"
Those who have conquered and persevered
deserve to wear the white garments.
3: 4: Yet you have still a few names in Sardis, people who have not soiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white, for they are worthy. 5: He who conquers shall be clad thus in white garments, and I will not blot his name out of the book of life; I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels.3: 18: Therefore I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, that you may be rich, and white garments to clothe you and to keep the shame of your nakedness from being seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, that you may see. 19: Those whom I love, I reprove and chasten; so be zealous and repent. 20: Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any one hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. 21: He who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I myself conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.
6: 9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the witness they had borne; 10: they cried out with a loud voice, "O sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before thou wilt judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell upon the earth?" 11: Then they were each given a white robe and told to rest a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brethren should be complete, who were to be killed as they themselves had been.
7: 9: After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no man could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10: and crying out with a loud voice, "Salvation belongs to our God who sits upon the throne, and to the Lamb!" 11: And all the angels stood round the throne and round the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12: saying, "Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God for ever and ever! Amen." 13: Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, "Who are these, clothed in white robes, and whence have they come?" 14: I said to him, "Sir, you know." And he said to me, "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15: therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night within his temple; and he who sits upon the throne will shelter them with his presence.
The Retinue, or Followers of God are dressed in White
in "Revelations" and in the Book of Enoch.
In the 4th chapter of "Revelations" we see the elect Elders wearing white, and in chapter 19, the armies of God, like the Sons of God in the Book of Enoch, wearing white as well. In that chapter we also see the egalitarianism of the follower of Jesus. No human is to be worshipped. Jesus in fact is not seen as God, but as a human who conquered, who persevered to the end. We see also the coming again of Jesus as the rider on the white horse, Kalki to the Hindus, who comes to rid the world of religious error.
Revelations 4: 4 Round the throne were twenty-four thrones, and seated on the thrones were twenty-four elders, clad in white garments, with golden crowns upon their heads.Interestingly, in his Ecclesiastical History, Eusebius gives us perhaps the most thorough portrayal of James the brother and intimate companion of Jesus outside of the New Testament. He asserts that James "ate no animal food" and wore linen.19: 10: Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, "You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brethren who hold the testimony of Jesus. Worship God." For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. 11: Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! He who sat upon it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. 12: His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems; and he has a name inscribed which no one knows but himself. 13: He is clad in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. 14: And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, followed him on white horses.
The Sons of God, the Heavenly Retinue in White Garments
In Chapter 71 of the Book of Enoch, the sons of God, i.e. the heavenly retinue, the followers of Deity, are dressed in white, and the Head of Days, like the Ancient of Days in "Revelations," also has a head of wool. The Book of Enoch itself asserts that there are many sons of God, that, as many have stated, it in a sense a generic term signifying that those who do the will of God are the sons of God. (One is reminded of Jesus' statement that all who do the will of his father are his real spiritual family, and these do not necessarily include his biological relatives. Also, when one attempts to worship a human in "Revelations," he is criticized.)
1 And it came to pass after this that my spirit was translatedAbove we see the Head of Days in the Book of Enoch having a head "white and pure as wool."
And it ascended into the heavens:
And I saw the holy sons of God.
They were stepping on flames of fire:
Their garments were white [and their raiment],
And their faces shone like snow.10 And with them the Head of Days,
His head white and pure as wool,
And His raiment indescribable.
Head and Hair of Wool
In both works the Ancient of Days and Son
of Man have the aim of correcting the world of its religious error, which
is precisely the reason why Deity spoke to Enoch, so that there would be
a written record of origins of disorder, such as the animal sacrifices,
mining, possessing the earth, amassing riches, subordinating other humans
to be your slaves or workers. The Son of Man in "Revelations" and the Head
of Days in the Book of Enoch, who is also described as a Son of
Man, both have hair like wool. The white hair represents the elder's aspect
of having grown old in purity. To one who perseveres on the path
of purity, which practically applied means adapting a diet of plants, not
animal sacrifices, and treating other humans as equals.
A Son of Man, Jesus, His Head and Hair White as Wool,
in seen in the first chapter of "Revelations."
The sword from his mouth cuts through the religious error on earth.
1: 12: Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, 13: and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden girdle round his breast; 14: his head and his hair were white as white wool, white as snow; his eyes were like a flame of fire, 15: his feet were like burnished bronze, refined as in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of many waters; 16: in his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth issued a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength. In Chapter 46 of the Book of Enoch, which I will quote in full, we see a Son of Man who like the Ancient of Days and the Son of Man in "Revelations" has the mission to correct the earth of religious error. He is to take part in the overthrow of the powers of the world, the rich, the mighty, those who possess the earth, the kings and merchants of the earth.
The Divine Plan in the Book of Enoch and "Revelations:"
Overthrowing the Powers of the World
1 And there I saw One who had a head of days,
And His head was white like wool,
And with Him was another being whose countenance had the appearance of a man,
And his face was full of graciousness, like one of the holy angels.
2 And I asked the angel who went with me and showed me all the hidden things, concerning that 3 Son of Man, who he was, and whence he was, (and) why he went with the Head of Days? And he answered and said unto me:
This is the son of Man who hath righteousness,
With whom dwelleth righteousness,
And who revealeth all the treasures of that which is hidden,
Because the Lord of Spirits hath chosen him,
And whose lot hath the pre-eminence before the Lord of Spirits in uprightness for ever.
4 And this Son of Man whom thou hast seen
Shall raise up the kings and the mighty from their seats,
[And the strong from their thrones]
And shall loosen the reins of the strong,
And break the teeth of the sinners.
5 [And he shall put down the kings from their thrones and kingdoms]
Because they do not extol and praise Him,
Nor humbly acknowledge whence the kingdom was bestowed upon them.
6 And he shall put down the countenance of the strong,
And shall fill them with shame.
And darkness shall be their dwelling,
And worms shall be their bed,
And they shall have no hope of rising from their beds,
Because they do not extol the name of the Lord of Spirits.
7 And these are they who judge the stars of heaven,
[And raise their hands against the Most High],
And tread upon the earth and dwell upon it.
And all their deeds manifest unrighteousness,
And their power rests upon their riches,
And their faith is in the gods which they have made with their hands,
And they deny the name of the Lord of Spirits,
8 And they persecute the houses of His congregations,
And the faithful who hang upon the name of the Lord of Spirits.
In Chapter 14 of the Book of Enoch the lightnings are part of the force that speeds Enoch to heaven. Heaven is comprised of crystal and fire just as it is in "Revelations."Lightning, and the Heaven of Crystal and Fire
Exist in both "Revelations 4" and the Book of Enoch.1: After this I looked, and lo, in heaven an open door! And the first voice, which I had heard speaking to me like a trumpet, said, "Come up hither, and I will show you what must take place after this." 2: At once I was in the Spirit, and lo, a throne stood in heaven, with one seated on the throne! 3: And he who sat there appeared like jasper and carnelian, and round the throne was a rainbow that looked like an emerald. 4: Round the throne were twenty-four thrones, and seated on the thrones were twenty-four elders, clad in white garments, with golden crowns upon their heads. 5: From the throne issue flashes of lightning, and voices and peals of thunder, and before the throne burn seven torches of fire, which are the seven spirits of God; 6: and before the throne there is as it were a sea of glass, like crystal. 4 "Revelations"
And the vision was shown to me thus: Behold, in the vision clouds invited me and a mist summoned me, and the course of the stars and the lightnings sped and hastened me, and the winds in 9 the vision caused me to fly and lifted me upward, and bore me into heaven. And I went in till I drew nigh to a wall which is built of crystals and surrounded by tongues of fire: and it began to affright 10 me. And I went into the tongues of fire and drew nigh to a large house which was built of crystals: and the walls of the house were like a tesselated floor (made) of crystals, and its groundwork was 11 of crystal. Its ceiling was like the path of the stars and the lightnings, and between them were 12 fiery cherubim, and their heaven was (clear as) water. A flaming fire surrounded the walls, and its 13 portals blazed with fire. And I entered into that house, and it was hot as fire and cold as ice: there 14 were no delights of life therein: fear covered me, and trembling got hold upon me. And as I quaked 15 and trembled, I fell upon my face. And I beheld a vision, And lo! there was a second house, greater 16 than the former, and the entire portal stood open before me, and it was built of flames of fire. And in every respect it so excelled in splendour and magnificence and extent that I cannot describe to 17 you its splendour and its extent. And its floor was of fire, and above it were lightnings and the path 18 of the stars, and its ceiling also was flaming fire. And I looked and saw therein a lofty throne: its appearance was as crystal, and the wheels thereof as the shining sun, and there was the vision of 19 cherubim. And from underneath the throne came streams of flaming fire so that I could not look 20 thereon. And the Great Glory sat thereon, and His raiment shone more brightly than the sun and 21 was whiter than any snow. None of the angels could enter and could behold His face by reason 22 of the magnificence and glory and no flesh could behold Him. The flaming fire was round about Him, and a great fire stood before Him, and none around could draw nigh Him: ten thousand times 23 ten thousand (stood) before Him, yet He needed no counselor. And the most holy ones who were 24 nigh to Him did not leave by night nor depart from Him. And until then I had been prostrate on my face, trembling: and the Lord called me with His own mouth, and said to me: ' Come hither, 25 Enoch, and hear my word.' And one of the holy ones came to me and waked me, and He made me rise up and approach the door: and I bowed my face downwards. The image of Deity on a throne exists in both works, and in both works the word throne is used frequently, designating the heavenly authority that is being channeled throught Enoch and John of Patmos, respectively. And in Chapter 71, we see the holy sons of God dressed in white, just as the retinue of Deity in "Revelations."
1 And it came to pass after this that my spirit was translated
And it ascended into the heavens:
And I saw the holy sons of God.
They were stepping on flames of fire:
Their garments were white [and their raiment],
And their faces shone like snow.
2 And I saw two streams of fire,
And the light of that fire shone like hyacinth,
And I fell on my face before the Lord of Spirits.
3 And the angel Michael [one of the archangels] seized me by my right hand,
And lifted me up and led me forth into all the secrets,
And he showed me all the secrets of righteousness.
4 And he showed me all the secrets of the ends of the heaven,
And all the chambers of all the stars, and all the luminaries,
Whence they proceed before the face of the holy ones.
5 And he translated my spirit into the heaven of heavens,
And I saw there as it were a structure built of crystals,
And between those crystals tongues of living fire.
