We rented a car and drove from Hualien, all the way down to Kenting, and then up to Kaoshiung where we left the car at the airport and flew back to Taipei. BTW, you definitely need your international driving licence if u intend to drive along the east coast. This is because the traffic police does road checks throughout this stretch. I was checked 3 times!
Hualien has many attraction sites if u only know how to look. Fortunately, we had a 'local guide' in the form of a friend of Hsiou's friend.
