BASIC WHITE CAKE

2-1/2 C     Cake flour,sifted
1 tbps        Baking powder
1/2 tsp       Salt
4                Egg whites, room temperature
1-1/2 C     White sugar
2/3 C         Butter
3/4 C         Milk
1 tsp          Vanilla




Grease and flour 2-9 inch round pans.  Preheat oven to 350. Sift flour, powder and salt and set aside.  Cream butter, 1-1/4 C sugar until creamy; beat in vanilla .  Mix in milk and flour mixture alternately.  Beat egg whites until frothy; gradually add remaining sugar until soft peaks form.  Fold into batter.  Pour into pans and bake for  20-25 minutes.  Cool and remove from pans.
