PEAR DROP DONUTS

3 T. Butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar (less if you use sweetened pear sauce)
3 eggs
1 cup pear sauce (pureed pears or baby pears)
1 tsp. vanilla
4 1/2 cups flour
3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp EACH allspice and nutmeg
1/4 cup milk
Oil for frying
sugar to roll in after frying

Combine wet ingredients except milk. Sift dry ingredients, mix into wet alternately with milk. Batter should be thick.

Heat oil to 375. Drop by teaspoonfuls carefully into oil. Fry about 1 minute on each side. Drain and roll in sugar while warm. Makes about 5 dozen.
